Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

Spot on. It was a terror attack.

It wasn’t. The police have confirmed it wasn’t.

AllPlayedOut · 02/11/2025 21:23

Personally I don’t think that your thread title is helping, OP, as it’s usually(At least now) used to refer to lone terrorists as opposed to other kinds of mass murderers.

WonderfulSmith · 02/11/2025 21:25

So now this has come to light I’m assuming all the people on the thread last night saying it was illegal immigrants who had just stepped off a boat, or that this was clearly two people working together have turned up to apologise?

As for is or isn’t it terrorism, well it might be of it might not. I suggest people watch the last two episodes of 24 Hours in Police Custody to see that an attack like this can happen without a terrorist motivation.

HPFA · 02/11/2025 20:05

If the country is a tinder box it's because of people like you.

I'm fairly sure your average bloke that might go out rioting is not avidly reading "The Posts of Leavesfalling" on Mumsnet and getting radicalised.

But thank you I suppose for your suggestion that I have that much influence over the opinion of the UK population.

Zebedee999 · 02/11/2025 21:28

jasflowers · 02/11/2025 18:06

I hope the many posters who came on here spouting their vile racist views will have the decency to apologise?

Nope, thought not.

You're literally the second poster on this thread, so is it you and the OP that are the vile racists?

EasternStandard · 02/11/2025 21:28

Leavesfalling · 02/11/2025 21:15

Yes I'm interested to see what @EasternStandard has said that is racist too. It would be a first time that has happened to my knowledge and I suspect therefore in fact she wasn't racist at all.

Thanks @LeavesfallingI’ve been here a while and never had a post deleted for it so I think the op has made a mistake.

surreysarah · 02/11/2025 21:28

There is an abusive (and presumably mentally unwell) man who lives near where I work. He’s usually drinking on the street at 9 o’clock in the morning and shouts and swears at passers by, including on one occasion, a pregnant woman. Why are these people allowed to roam the streets? He should be in an institution where he can get the appropriate support, rather than being allowed to shout and scream at members of the public.

Booboobagins · 02/11/2025 21:29

So many posts assuming MH issues, failed by the system etc. Can I ask who so many posters are looking to blame the system rather than the decisions the alleged perp took?

And we should not take the not terrorism thing as gospel either. The Southport murderer was immediately reported as radicalised, then this was exsponged and it wasn't until he got to trial that it was clear he was radicalised. Since then we've learned that he and his brother were created as such by their parents who then fled back home having spent years here under asylum, allegedly claiming benefits.

Stop making things up and wait to find out.

snughugs · 02/11/2025 18:18

I said that on this forum the second that Police conference came through. We were been taken for fools. All the eye witnesses saw ONE man get on at Peterborough and attack. The fact they’re now looking into his background would imply there could be MI5 information on him. This feels like Southport again which was apparently not terror related either and he was British born. Let’s see what comes out next.

Still you and others persist in a narrative that stokes up division and hatred. Why would you do that?

Because he isn’t a danger to the public

and annoyance, at times he may scare someone but he is a danger more to himself

you can’t lock people away just for being anti social

I think we used to have psychiatric hospitals (they were called mental homes and had a stigma unfortunately) but they were closed down in favour of "care" in the community. Which is terrible for the people suffering from these illnesses as they can't look after themselves and there's nowhere safe for them to be.

I wouldn't worry. OP has also accused the police of racism for the second arrest, without evidence of course.

AStonedRose · 02/11/2025 18:33

Leaving aside the horror of the attack, the reaction on here was so fucking depressing (and indicative of how right wing the place has unfortunately become). 1500+ posts in the blink of an eye, many of them talking about things like using the navy in the channel to send the boats back, Pakistani rape gangs etc

Pages and pages of Reform UK-type arseholery, based on basically nothing, as it increasingly looks like this incident was nothing to do with islam or terror whatsoever

Do we think perhaps mumsnet nowadays has loads and loads of bot accounts? It’s feeling like that to me!

Sorry. How do you know he’s not a danger?

WhattheDeuceBrian · 02/11/2025 21:32

ah mental health- of course, of course- just like Nottingham
Aaand we've managed therefore to blame society, the mental health services, Farage, even- let's wring out hands and wail how dreadful we all are
But not the perpetrator: he has been let down, poor lamb
Great- let's move on then until the next "mental health" knife crime from an inconvenient demographic.
And remember, guys, it'll be your fault, not his.

This. He’s very frightening to walk past and completely unstable. He shouted in a pregnant woman’s face.

FairViewRosie25 · 02/11/2025 21:45

It’s never a woman in these circumstances is it

Lionfisher · 02/11/2025 21:46

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 02/11/2025 18:13

Horrendous. Absolutely horrendous. Arrested for the colour of his skin

You’ve no idea why he was arrested. He could have been travelling with the attacker, near the attacker, interacting with the attacker. Frankly the police did whatever they needed to do to stop anyone else getting hurt and if that means arresting someone by mistake so be it.

Stop making it something it’s not.

It’s hardly like the attacker was white and they arrested a black guy by mistake and let the attacker free, is it?

Thank god they got the right person is all I can say, I don’t know why anyone is making excuses for him.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 02/11/2025 21:48

@HRTQueen

Why does it need an inquiry

A man is taken in for questioning and released without charge. Hardly needs an inquiry.

Ridiculous statement

AzurePanda · 02/11/2025 21:49

How could anyone possibly know his motives at this stage? Look how long it took to get the bottom of Axel Rudukubana.

There is a chance there are some bots on MN. And encouraged by Nigel's narrative and fake bots pushing the same bigoted propaganda, actual people feel entitled to boast about their ignorance and self importance not just online. It is ALWAYS the same psychology. Society is facing huge shift and challenges (col, consumerism, technology break down of social norms) the 'little' people feel unimportant, worthless, poor, hard done by, powerless UNTIL they are told, they are more worthy than (foreigners, Jewish people, people belonging to another religion, women etc) they belong more than other, they should be more powerful and unite against these outsiders and, voila, without having to actually do or achieve anything other than having a family tree that hasn't got recent arrivals, they become someone, they belong and feel special. Then they vote for those who told them they are better than others. It works so well too.

Yep. Definitely not because of the murders and rapes.

I don’t understand your post. It doesn’t mean it’s not terrorism?

The police said this morning it’s not terrorism, give it a rest.
