Confirmed by police about half an hour ago that the 35 year old arrested has been released without charge.

Yes, I had a feeling that the second suspect would end up being a black man who was arrested just because he was black and on the same train. Utterly disgusting. The racism in this country is vile. It's clearly one mentally ill person who has probably been failed by mental health services as so many are. Yet all the Reform dicks were quick to jump on the "usual suspects" bandwagon.

But wouldn't you prefer, if you were in that situation, that the police to steam in in the middle of a mass attack and collar as many people that fitted the suspects description (in a chaotic environment with little time to think) and then sort it out later. Rather than stop and carefully assess each person and make sure the are 100% sure of guilt if they are not white so as to avoid accusations of racisim. And in the meantime that person may end up stabbing your child or you. Whatever colour you are no one would prefer the second option in a mass attack?

I hope the many posters who came on here spouting their vile racist views will have the decency to apologise?

Nope, thought not.

Agree. And that includes @whyandwhenandwho who started a thread, then continued to add lots of racist theories but sadly was not spotted by MNHQ, presumably because they couldn’t keep up with all the wild unfounded theories in a thread of 1000 comments.

Don't we all these days? Do you trust Keir Starmer to tell the truth? When the country is a tinder box? I think he'd say anything to avoid a repeat of the riots. Which is fair enough. But I'm not naive enough to think we are never lied to.

We’re lied to constantly by Farage and his merry men. They’ve created the tinderbox, ably assisted by Musk.

Generally I stay off these threads and wait to see the truth emerge. But I think some of the so called "supportive" posters are just throwing fuel on the flames. There were quite a few black people on the train, you can see them in the news reports. One black man was arrested, many were not. So suggesting he was arrested because of his skin colour is just wrong.

There was CCTV on the train. The images may not have been clear enough to be fully confident it was one attacker and not two, especially if dressed in similar clothing. They arrested him and then released him fairly rapidly, probably when they'd had a good look at - and maybe enhanced - the CCTV images.

Multiple other black men were not arrested, he was released rapidly. Not everything is about skin colour.

Sensible post.
All these lot seem as bad as each other, arguing about who is and isn’t racist !

Yeah, I worked that out (that you weren't the PP I'd quoted) but it was too late to edit my post.

💐peace.

As it turns out, this white man was wrongly identified on social media in relation to the Liverpool incident;

A man wrongly identified on social media as being the driver of a car which ploughed into crowds of people in Liverpool says he has moved his children out of their home because he fears for their safety.

Peter Cunningham, 54, had his picture circulated online after the incident on Monday, when 79 people were injured while celebrating Liverpool's Premier League victory.

He said of the false accusations: "It's not me. I'm in work - the police need to give the [suspect's] name out because I'm getting accused.

They stir up hatred via social media. We could try a little experiment - they all stfu for a couple of weeks and see if the tinderbox abates.

The police, incidentally, did a fantastic job in horrendous circumstances so it’s beyond me why who controls them should be relevant.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 02/11/2025 20:13

Vivi0 · 02/11/2025 20:02

Oh yes they most certainly do. Most people who commit murder are legally sane.

I'm not saying that noone sane commits murder. But they do it because they have something to gain.

The drug dealer who kills his competitor for the turf.

The man who murders his wife because he went too far while "teaching his wife a lesson"

The soldier in a concentration camp who takes part in genocide to ensure his continued employment.

The IRA bomber who bombs a political conference to spread terror and has a reasonable chance of remaining unidentified and so reaping the benefits.

All sane.

The man who stabs a bunch of randoms on the train? Where's the gain?

You only do that because you're fucking mental.

Yes I think so too.

Clavinova · 02/11/2025 20:17

Do you trust Keir Starmer to tell the truth?

Never! Not since he told LBC listeners (including me) that there were 'about 6 people' with him having a curry and beer in Durham, when in fact there were 16 people with him.

Ooopsyididit · 02/11/2025 20:18

I wouldn't recommend viewing them. I think you would be shocked at what some regular posters were saying. It was a real eye-opener.

Yep they are awful

RoamingToaster · 02/11/2025 20:21

I think the police can't win sometimes. It must have been horrible for the guy to be arrested but we don't know the circumstances that led to the police believing it was him too. It makes sense to be overly cautious. If there had been a second guy involved and they let him go people would be going mad saying how incompetent they are. They didn't arrest all the black men so there must have been some reason to suspect this man.

A better experiment would be for males to stop committing acts of violence then people wouldn’t have to be mad about it.

HPFA · 02/11/2025 20:26

We don't know whether the police arrest of the innocent man was justified or not.

What we do know is that releasing his name, as many were demanding, would have been horrific for the guy.

This is why we have laws and processes. Which Reform are open about wanting to dismantle.

Yes agreed.

But an MP from a non governmental party is not going to looked to for facts by the country. The PM is. And not many trust him. That's my original point. There was no mention of Reform in it.

Let’s try my version first because I can’t see that these people need any reason to be “mad”. They read inflammatory lies on social media and get manipulated.

Edited

They mya be be from a non government party but their racist tweets should not be shrugged off. People read and repeat them.

Plenty of them are frequently invited to tv and radio shows.

They did. They’ve now confirmed one man wasn’t involved, despite it being “reliably” reported to them at the scene that he was.

I imagine a scene like that would be chaotic in the extreme. They have to act fast and make decisions that might not be based on the full picture. Presumably it's better to err on the side of caution.

Nestingbirds · 02/11/2025 20:39

The police simply arrested for safety anyone fitting the description. In an emergency of course that is completely fine. If the suspect had been blonde in navy you would expect and hope they would be detained and the details established.

Horrendous. Absolutely horrendous. Arrested for the colour of his skin

No. Arrested because witnesses told police he was involved. Once it was realised they were mistaken, he was released.
