One has to imagine that the monkeys overcame the driver and engineered the crash. And with that thought, good night and don't have nightmares.

Lab monkeys from Tulane University have escaped an overturned truck north of the town of Heidelberg, Mississippi.

Despite initial claims by local law enforcement, the monkeys are not carrying COVID-19, herpes or hepatitis C.

They do appear to have taken over the White House, though.

I think the monkeys are a lot more competent than the current people in charge

🤣

And this stuff is why our threads are the best bit of Mumsnet.

PandoraSocks · 29/10/2025 08:42

Morning. The monkeys haven't taken over yet, then. @DuncinToffee I hope you are OK. That thread got really nasty.

The Dutch elections are today, a handy guide in this thread

The Telegraph is Daily Mailing again. Maybe wait for the actual budget FFS!

"Sir Keir Starmer’s Government has already driven thousands of wealthy individuals out of Britain, and the mansion tax being considered by Rachel Reeves risks an exodus of homeowners from London and the South East, as Benedict Smith, our Money Writer, reveals"

DuncinToffee · 29/10/2025 09:27

You mean the mansion tax does not worry you greatly Pandora Wink

Empty mansions in London could be put to great use.

No. Although I think the threshold should be a bit higher in London and the SE. Two million will get you a LOT of house where I am, but something much more modest in London.

PandoraSocks · 29/10/2025 09:45

I don't think it will happen though. It is too controversial.

BIossomtoes · 29/10/2025 10:03

I don’t either. I do think income tax will rise by a penny or two.

I think so too, hopefully offset by a cut in NI so people paying NICs would be no worse off.

I rarely get FOMO, but can't help feel jealous I missed this one.

So more affordable housing then. What's not to like ?

A cut in NI would make the rise pointless. There’s already a £10 billion cost thanks to Hunt’s unfunded NI cut. Any tax increases need to be across the board to be effective.

Isn't the thinking that a rise in income tax but a cut in NICs captures those who pay tax but no NICs.

So sort of levelling things a bit between those who pay income tax and NICs and those who pay income tax only? So pensioners or those who have retired early on occupational pensions for example would pay more tax.

eta link, which estimates it could raise £6bn

Hunt passed a poisoned chalice to Reeves on that issue.

Can someone tell Farage he and his party aren't actually in power yet?
