Labour isn't working - Thread 12

TheNuthatch · 06/10/2025 23:28

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It's so depressing. And scary. BP saying she doesn't 'accept' those figures. They just lie and lie and lie.

DH says he finds it amazing how a so-called left-wing party have taken their approach to PR straight out of the Goebbels propaganda playbook.

Julen7 · 12/10/2025 14:29

According to some on MN “right wingers” are always looking for something to be miserable about. Honestly wish this Godforsaken govt were not giving us so many reasons to be depressed. I am an optimistic person by nature but I am plagued by thoughts about how much more damage it is possible for Labour to inflict in 3.5 years.

Idk who’s saying that but most people are disapproving when it comes to Labour, they really are in the minority.

What's happened to all the staff at these private schools. If 25k children have left there has to be cutbacks in staff. The state sector cannot afford them, so what happened to them?

I know one family who had two children going in year seven and year five. They've withdrawn their application so haven't lost any money but are now visiting state schools.

Oh. It’s nonsense anyway. If Labour are failing it’s on them, no point in trying to blame those who knew their policies were terrible.

Either left teaching or gone abroad to teach in international schools

Post on X from Mike Huckabee, Ambassador to Israel, about Bridget Phillipson claiming the UK government played 'a key role behind the scenes in shaping this'.😳

I’m glad someone can call her out on her lying.

I’m watching BP spout her nonsense to Trevor Phillips on replay. Who could trust a word that woman says.

But, but, but. The VAT on private schools was to pay for more teachers in public schools. How's that going Bridgie?

MantleStatue · 12/10/2025 17:09

And VAT was to pay for breakfast clubs. And VAT was to pay for the housing building boom.

Magical money!

We have 2 independents near us. Mine go to one. The other is very small with fees under £10 k a year. I doubt hugely that this one can survive. In any case I drove past it today and they have big banners up saying 'spaces available at all year levels'. I drive past easily once a week and cannot recall that ever happening before. Ours is much bigger and had alot of capital assets in terms of buildings etc. They have started selling off buildings which means that we now have a number of year levels shoehorned into the other buildings. They have announced that retiring and leaving staff will not be replaced. They have made cut backs to music and art staff. They are now charging the local community for use of our grounds, theatre and mini buses whereas before they were all given for free. The school is the single largest employer in that and surrounding towns by far. Yet they are shedding staff - teaching / admin / groundstaff / ad hoc staff like invigilators / dining hall staff etc. My Dcs have been telling me about 'the disappearing students'. Students who have vanished mid-year. My oldest one is in GCSE year and he told me 'Lola has gone now. .... Alice has gone..... and Henry told us he's leaving at half term'. (Not their real names).

Slow hand clap Labour.

Good to hear the lies being called out.

Priti Patel said the same this morning. She said the govt had played no part at all, and that Starmer was going to Egypt tomorrow simply because he's spotted a photo opportunity. Parliament resumes tomorrow and there are plenty of domestic problems he should be dealing with.

🥲🥲🥲
Awful.
I have just left teaching (indie) -no way would I have worked in a state school (after previous experience in)
Really grateful I had the opportunity to work in a fabulous school with happy hardworking pupils when it was still possible to do that.

That's so sad to read. They only get one childhood.
As you say, all that opportunity and employment for the wider community lost too. Absolute eejits.

She was doing the rounds this morning. I watched her on Camilla Tominey.

Same bloody nonsense everywhere, repeated ad nauseam.

Labour seem to think repeating the same old nonsense is going to win support back - no signs of anyone falling for it yet…

justasking111 · 12/10/2025 18:04

The private school near us has quit being a boarding school. Sold off all the big houses and land to developers for flats. Laid off many employees. I don't know if it will survive.

Incredible. The lies Labour spin.

Nolletimiere · 12/10/2025 18:47

Israel has firmly rejected a UK Cabinet minister’s assertion that Britain played a "key role" in securing the Gaza ceasefire, as Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer prepares to join other world leaders at a peace summit on the Middle East.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s deputy foreign minister, Sharren Haskel, directly challenged the claim, stating she would "have to contradict" the idea that Britain was a leading player "behind the scenes".

LupaMoonhowl · 12/10/2025 18:59

Well ‘recognizing Palestine’ like the other craven fools hardly demonstrated statesmanship.
