A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I like Kemi. I don’t mind her taking her time. She doesn’t need to peak now, so why be in a rush. She has avoided saying ridiculous things and making rash commitments that would come back to haunt her at the next election.

She has avoided own goals, snd there is notjing to win at the moment.

CruCru · 08/10/2025 18:50

Yes, I like Kemi.

I am not convinced that Reform will be good at managing the economy (and Labour definitely are not).

Absentosaur · 08/10/2025 18:53

A year 4 years is a long time in politics.. What on earth we’ll see is in no way predictable.. the last year has been terrible of course. Can it get worse??? Yeah yeah I know.. 🙈

That's just the low hanging fruit. I think we might need some nice Christmas posts after 26 November. Doubt I'll be able to afford to buy anything for Christmas.

If it helps, I've just switched bank account as it'll pay me £200 for doing so. (To Barclays; there are other switch offers around.)

This is my line of thinking too.

Mine too!

TheNuthatch · 08/10/2025 19:33

The streets of Mumbai have been lined with photos of Starmer.
I'm sure the people are loving it. Imagine having to look at his face hundreds of times on your way to work. 🤢🤢

Gawd he'll come home all puffed up 🙄

InterestQ · 08/10/2025 19:48

I’m a floating voter who hasn’t been wild about Kemi as leader of the opposition though I thought she was excellent as minister in the last government. I hope she’s sort of settling in as til now she’s felt like a strategic placeholder for a few more years til Jenrick and Cleverly oust her pre election.

i do think her speech and Sir Mel Stride’s we’re good! I always say I couldn’t be a person who would “never” vote X party and have voted for both Conservative and Labour before but I can’t at the moment see myself ending up as a Reform voter and Labour have now lost me for the moment so I’m quite pleased to see some spark from the Tories this week. Maybe they could do better than we hope.

Rivalled · 08/10/2025 19:52

I was certainly better off and more hopeful two years ago!

I reckon Labour will do that raise income tax and drop NI by 2p that the papers are talking about because it’ll have the added benefit of putting the SNP in an awkward position - income tax already higher here, so raising it further would be a vote loser but NI is reserved so it’s a tax cut for the working age.

Scottish Labour can then presumably campaign that they’ve put money in the hands of ‘working people’ in 2026 - because they are in for a right drubbing otherwise.

TheNuthatch · 08/10/2025 19:59

That's quite a record.
Interesting that they suggest Starmer was lying about China being against the Chagos deal. He said thise who oppose it were in the same column as China, Russia and Iran.

Don't be giving Labour any good ideas though @Rivalled. I reckon Reeves reads this thread 😂

I don't think my kids would recognise him in Tesco to be fair.

Seriously though, can you imagine driving past them at speed? It would be like Starmer flick book animation. There are hundreds of them lining the motorway apparently.

Rivalled · 08/10/2025 20:48

Well @TheNuthatch it’d be the first sign of political nous they’ve shown since the election so yeah, that means it probably won’t happen!

Rivalled · 08/10/2025 20:51

Although I am wondering - can Labour afford to piss of any more pensioners? Or have they calculated that they’ve well and truly lost the pension vote so might as well try and buy the working age vote?

only 7 more weeks to find out…
