Just that. Was chatting with a friend who thinks its really unusual in anyone under 80 😆

So answer please…
A — yes always
B — sometimes, if the cooking is particularly messy
C — never

A soak in washing up liquid does the same.

I have never found that any laundry detergent or washing up liquid will get rid of grease stains. Janie’s Stick does every time. I’m never without it!

StrawberryJangle · 02/10/2025 07:12

C - 50.

I should probably wear one when eating though 😭

StarlightLady · 02/10/2025 07:13

l’m in my 40s and rarely do. But a number of ruined tops tell me l really should!

MargaretThursday · 02/10/2025 07:20

My dad always does and he's only 78. 😁

Fairy liquid rubbed in before putting it in the washing machine.

Tried that many times and it never works for me 😭

I didn't always wear an apron, but do now as I feel like I'm a better cook when I'm wearing one. 😆

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 02/10/2025 08:56

A - mid 50s.

Putting an apron on and washing my hands are always the first things I do when I'm about to start cooking. I'll usually leave it on until after I've eaten and done the washing up.

DonnyDoris · 02/10/2025 09:30

A - 48. Also for washing up, otherwise i get a soggy top!!

Sometimes but it's not about the messiness of the prep it's about what I'm wearing and if I have time to get changed before needing to go somewhere if necessary, I often wear an apron if we have guests for dinner so I can take it off and I'm not covered in food at the table

StampOnTheGround · 02/10/2025 09:33

C - 32, didn’t even know it was a something people did 😂

A - 60 but have always done it my whole life.

It's minging to cook in the same clothes you've been out in or wearing all day.

Eh? Are you wiping your clothes on the food?

Personally I never wear an apron and I can't remember ever splashing food on my clothes while cooking. Very occasionally a bit of flour drifts over when baking bread but it doesn't stick. It would make more sense to wear an apron when eating as that's a much higher risk of spilling food onto my clothes! I have occasionally made my kids change out of nice light-coloured tops to eat tomato sauce.

TwinklyNight · 02/10/2025 09:56

A. I'm a senior now nuff said.

BadActingParsley · 02/10/2025 09:59

50s and sometimes, Christmas or something particularly messy....

I should wear one more often as I'm a messy cook.

Scoutingforducks · 02/10/2025 10:31

In my 50s and I always wear one when cooking. Can't see why it would be considered old fashioned.

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 02/10/2025 10:37

B - 60s, if I am wearing a light coloured top, and I am cooking with tomatoes, curry, soy sauce, etc. Ditto DH wears one most of the time, when he’s cooking, to save on washing spots off his pale shirts!

Boogiemam · 02/10/2025 10:44

A - 38. I bloody love aprons. And I'm also a very messy, clumsy cook who wipes hands on my clothes so it's sort of a needs must situation
