Just that. Was chatting with a friend who thinks its really unusual in anyone under 80 😆

So answer please…
A — yes always
B — sometimes, if the cooking is particularly messy
C — never

and how old are you?

Me - A 56

C - never . 48. But increasingly thinking i ought to.

justasking111 · 02/10/2025 19:21

Always had aprons. Bought two new ones recently. I have big boobs and tomato based sauces throw themselves at me. 🤣

Bleach when cleaning, water when washing up. Big pockets for phone, picking up bits before they attack the vacuum cleaner.

Such a useful garment.

Sheknowsaboutme · 02/10/2025 19:25

Yes. I have FFWC O GWC on it

welsh for one fucking great chef

Shakemesexy · 02/10/2025 18:08

C - 48

and never seen anyone else wear one either. Didn’t think anyone has worn them since the 70s! I forget about suburbia.

Why is cooking in clothes you’ve been wearing ‘gross’? Are you rubbing the food over your clothes? Or have you been rolling in drippy liquid shit?

people are so weird!

Its very difficult to make bread without getting flour on yourself.

ToLoseWeightAndNotMyMind · 02/10/2025 20:24

C 42

Also neither of my parents or GParents did either that I recall

suburburban · 02/10/2025 20:27

I’m a B but often A as I don’t want to ruin my clothes.

I am 58

Kayla83 · 02/10/2025 20:27

In my 50s, yes I wear an apron. My Mom buys me new a one every year as a stocking filler!

goudacheese · 02/10/2025 20:33

A - 60, eat my dinner with it on too. It saves all my clothes.

GoldGold · 02/10/2025 21:05

A - late 30s
I do all the cooking. I hate the thought of getting my clothes dirty with food stains! Oil based, tomato, tumeric are difficult to wash out.

ThePoshUns · 02/10/2025 21:08

B 53

Nanof8 · 02/10/2025 23:13

I'm 66 and often use an apron when baking, but not for regular cooking.
My 5 year-old likes to wear his apron when he helps with cooking. Most of my grandchildren have aprons they use while cooking.
Aprons were wore alot in our family when I was growing up. So it just seems natural to wear one while baking or canning.

A 50s messy bugger. I have a variety.

A bugger? You know that means you like giving anal sex right?

What’s that got to do with any of the statements in my post?

A bugger? You know that means you like giving anal sex right?

Also used as an English insult.

A bugger? You know that means you like giving anal sex right?

Well technically yes, but also used as a very mild swear word/jokey insult, as in this case

Well no, not in this context....(probably 🤔)

Not where I come from Up North thanks!

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 04/10/2025 19:46

Argh! Having said I'm A, I've just dashed to the kitchen to quickly baste a roasting chicken and because I'd taken my apron off after putting it in, I forgot to put it back on and I have fat splatters on a favourite top.

Aprons for the win.

Is ‘up north’ another euphemism.

"And in other news this evening, a Mumsnet user is completely baffled by semantic drift."

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/10/2025 10:24

‘Messy Bugger’ is perfectly normal expression meaning ’very messy person’. I’m also from up north…

Shakemesexy · 05/10/2025 12:03

I didn’t realise people ‘up North’ still speak like they’re out of Rita, Sue and Bob too.’ Quaint!

Crinkle77 · 05/10/2025 12:43

C, age 47. Hate wearing an apron. Think it's mainly cos I hate anything hanging round my neck. If I'm cooking or baking I'll just wear something old so it doesn't matter if it gets dirty.

HappyAsASandboy · 05/10/2025 17:39

B - age 46
