In the short term the Conservatives losing supporters to a much more right wing party (or the Conservatives themselves falling victim to far.right internal factions) is "good" for Labour. Its not good for democracy or internal cohesion in the country and therefor not good, long term, for Labour either.

I am not in anyway attached to Labour though. They were my way of avoiding the Tories.

Yes, but I've said it before. Some of the now disaffected Conservative voters in the deindustrialised North who are turning to Reform were originally Labour red wall voters who shifted to the Conservatives. I don't think it's a good idea for Labour to interpret that as conservative voters defecting to reform so it doesn't matter. It does matter if a big chunk of voters have been so let down by politics of the last few.decades that they have gone Labour>Conservative>Reform. It's a big chunk of people moving ever rightwards. I don't thing the answer for Labour is to try to win them back by out reforming reform. But it should be seen as a problem.

Quite.

Life got more shit so people were seduced by the prospect of "levelling up".

They had forgotten that much if the responsibility for lives being a bit more shit belonged to the very party that promised the "levelling up" that never really materialised.

A few went back to labour, while many were seduced by sanctioned punching down. Labour dug in with the enshittification of life for many and here we are.

Labour need to stop trying to keep up with team punching down because it's distracting them from things that really slow down and eventually reverse the enshittification of life. The problem they have is that none of it is a quick fix and the press is unsympathetic so the punching down promises will continue to be seductive to certain people.

Hope you’ve had a good day cardi and the migraine has relinquished.

Blimming heck. There is so much tin foil hattery on MN right now it is making my fillings hurt. Last time it was this bad was during the anti-vax madness.

Tommytennames has, predictably, had a little rant about "woke Jews" pushing for open borders etc. En route to Israel. Sigh. I don't really know how to put it into words but there is something so disturbing about the far right faking concern about "anti-Semitism" as a way of criticising Muslims, while simultaneously feeding on anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

Yes, I saw that ranting video, which he has now deleted.

He is in court next week and given he is still out on licence he might be going back to prison.

PandoraSocks · 10/10/2025 18:53

If anyone is interested, as I mentioned on the digital ID thread where the Fabian conspiracy stuff is being touted, there is a really good piece by Stephen Pollard about the Fabian Society conspiracy stuff. It seems to have its roots the Epping Hotel judgement. This bit made me laugh:

I think wierdness about the Fabian society goes back further than the Epping hotel. It's been a bogeyman for a while. I guess the Epping Hotel judgement let's them link it to the judiciary. But also what were seeing is a lot of conspiracy theories that were simmering out of sight fur, in some cases, decades have now become more mainstream.

When will Johnson be shown to have done enough to involve the courts?

Notonthestairs · 10/10/2025 20:19

Funny that they mention Better Earth. Johnson is Co Chair. Baroness Owen is Vice President.

DuncinToffee · 10/10/2025 20:21

Ah yes, that's where I heard it before. It was dodgy from the start.
