Happy Birthday @TheBirdintheCave 🍾🥂🎂
39 years young!
Hope you've been thoroughly spoilt.
Shall we give you the bumps? 😉

Thank you! I had to work unfortunately but my husband got me Lego and cake :) In the evening we went to a wild west themed restaurant with my parents, SIL and nephew which was brilliant.

I discoverd that my kids are polar opposites when it comes to cake. My toddler daughter smeared fist fulls of it all over her face as she basically tried to inhale it whilst my son (4) had one bite and was done 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Love to join you, sadly i can't as 24,living and working in the middle east.

I LOVED Iced Champink lippy, and their electric blue eyeliners and mascara. I found an old iced champink lipstick just a few years ago and it brought back memories! I may have, revoltingly, actually tried it on before chucking it out 😂 it was always exciting when the new Avon catalogue came out, to see what new colours and items they had.

i had tickets to go and see A-ha in a few weeks, it would’ve been my first proper concert, but i got into trouble so was punished by my mum by not letting me go. And my friend went with someone else and I was proper gutted when she told me how good it was 😫

Edited

I'm so sorry. Your mum is a proper witch! I went to see A-ha at the NEC in Birmingham and they were ace!

Why do mums have to ruin our lives? It's so unfair! Mine grounded me for wearing black lipstick the week I was into Siouxie and piercing my ears with a safety pin because she wouldn't let me have two holes in my ears!

I’m in lower 6th - doing A levels. Everyone at school seems to be obsessed with The Smiths. Most of us are going to uni but quite a few ar planning to go straight into the bank or accountancy as you don’t need a degree to do those. I catch two buses home every day and day dream all the time just staring out of the window - no mobile phones to relieve the boredom. We go to Manchester on Saturdays- on the train - to spend most of the day in Afflecks palace buying second hand Levis.

I think I’m too busy briefing Margaret Thatcher on education issues for Prime Minister’s Questions. It was twice a week in those days so it took up a lot of time….

Really! Wow important job! What was the Iron Lady really like?

EBearhug · 27/09/2025 00:23

I'm probably busy with some GCSE coursework or planning my next Dof E expedition, wondering why no one wants to go out with me. Or playing with the kitten - my cat gave birth on election day, and we kept one of the kittens.

(In 2025, I'm 53, and submitted my homework earlier, and still wondering why no one wants to go out with me, so plus ça change.)

We lived on a farm, and the day after the storm, my sister and a couple of her friends went for a walk through the woods to see the damage, and came back carrying a tawny owl which had injured its wing because it was caught under a fallen tree.

StElwicksNeighbourhoodAssociation · 27/09/2025 00:31

Our Price is my Saturday job! See you there when my shift ends.

Strollingby · 27/09/2025 00:33

I graduated in the summer and started my proper job three weeks ago. Unfortunately I've got my first accountants exam in a month so it was a trip to the launderette after work so Saturday is clear for shopping (no Sunday opening) and studying Sunday.

I’ve got a white puff ball with a candy stripe blue and white bolera to go with it - very Pepsi and Shirley ! My French book is backed in a pic of Aha and my maths book in bros.

My books are covered in Anagylpta. In fact, my best mate & I are known as the Scottish Pepsi & Shirley in 5 years' time when we work in Faliraki- I'm Shirley.

Loving your puff ball- candy stripes, ooooh.

LakeGeneva1 · 27/09/2025 00:36

Im 9. Let me just grab my rainbow rollerboots and I'll be with you in a few minutes. Ill bring my Walkman too!

Pharazon · 27/09/2025 00:51

I'll be glancing through the NME, backcombing my hair, practicing lighting a Gauloise with a Zippo and trying (and failing) to do my eyes like Strawberry Switchblade. DMs on, pub, then walk to (insert name of legendary northern goth club that is still going 40 later).

PandaG · 27/09/2025 01:13

I'm in 5th year, studying hard for my GCSEs - they are the new exams that take over from O levels next summer. I've got a maths investigation to do, it's part of my coursework, but I've got a full day working in 'the shop' tomorrow (our family firm, newsagent/tobacconist/stationery etc, I had a Saturday job from 13). I'll probably go to one of the permanent staff's for lunch, it's nearer than walking home...and we will probably have a couple of glasses of cider with our sandwich. All the other shops will be shut when I finish work, but we could go to the video place to rent a film, and play Trivial Pursuit after?

Or those annoying stickers stuck on every photo we got “wrong”, telling us we got it wrong 😄

Oh I'd forgotten about those! My holiday photos were always full of them. I remember my dad giving me and my sister our cameras loaded with a 24 print film and reminding us that it had to last the whole week.

I'm 5 and not old enough to go out at night. I'll come and join those of you playing with my little pony though. I've got the stable, a pink pony and a yellow pony. I'll be wearing my jeans with embroidered flowers on the pockets and my pink t shirt. My mum won't let me wear slip on shoes so I'll wear my t bar patent shoes from start rite.

Aha are on tour! Check it out..

Oh my…🤔 now who could I try and convince to come with? 38 years on and now I’m in the accessible seating/wheelchair area, gigs are not quite the same as they were, but luckily have still managed to sneak the odd mad one in amongst when able, but I’m not imagining mad, mental gig is the general vibe for aha, so being in the wheelchair probably isn’t going to be too bad in this case. Fun factoid, Pål (sp?), his birthday is the same day as mine so we were both celebratinlg our birthdays a couple of weeks ago. Obviously I’d just turned 15, no idea him 😂 found it out in one of the more poppier of the mags such as no1 and smash Hits magazine, and there were others but it’s always been the one I still remember, all these years later. I obviously took it as a sign 🥳💝🎉

@SteviesNicks@OViennaand anyone else… So, that’s another one, who remembers the magazines like no1, smash hits etc at the time putting in “whose birthday is it this month?”, type articles and you always grabbed it on your birthday month to see who shared your birthday and especially if you found it was someone really famous or that you really liked then you’d take it as meaning…well,,,something?? Who else did this? I can’t have been the only one. And out of those who did and still remembers (no cheating! We didn’t have google then so you’re not allowed to use it now 🙃) how about, when we’ve all finished shopping we meet up on those benches up the top of the high street outside Menzies, have a drink (I can get served in a few places already so I can grab us some md20/20, or, my favourite at the time, a bottle of Southern Comfort and some coke to go with), and we can see who had the best pop star birthday soulmate! Have also got half a pack of camel cigs I swiped off an empty table at the pub last night. So we’ve basically got enough for a bit of a warm up before the pub later. Anyone fancy it?! 😁

It was a good day when you got to the last pic - 24 -only to find that there was still one extra left, or 2 if you were really lucky! And who else used to get so excited about getting certain films developed as soon a possible but you still had a couple of shots left but you weren’t patient enough so you ended up just taking random pics of your dog, or of you and your mate just hanging around outside boots before you could put it in. Preferably on an hour service. It was always exciting opening up that envelope! The odd “you’re shit and this pic is shit” stickers, your finger over half the lense, the blurry ones, the over processed (usually one of the last ones because you’d not wound it fully on before you opened it), shots of headless people…but it made the good pics even better ☺️📸📸

Ooh lovely. I've just turned 15 and my best mate bought me some Iced Champink lippy from the Avon lady and a can of Impulse for my birthday, so I'll drown myself in those while deciding between my snakeskin print skin-tight jeans or my new snow-washed ones off the market. Either will look amazing with my Freeman Hardy Willis ankle boots and A-ha T-shirt!

Just let me find 13p for the bus fare and 10p for the phone box in case I miss the last bus home and I'll be there! Can we have a look in Athena for a Patrick Swayze poster and then move on to the Army Surplus store to look for leather bootlaces to make into Morten Harket bracelets?

I remember that the skin tight jeans were never tight enough on me from about mid calf down to ankles, and they were always a bit long for me too, so I used to turn them inside out and put them on, then I’d stitch from the inside leg seams from where it started to be just not tight enough and sewed them down the countour of my lower calf down to my very skinny ankles, including the bit that was too long. So you can imagine now how those jeans really were skin tight - literal second skin 😄. And remember they didn’t have elastin in them then so there was no stretch in them, so even getting them back off was almost impossible, and sometimes would need help and have someone pull the ankles whilst I tried not to slide off the bed or sliding all over the floor, being dragged by my jeans! Once successful (yes, I did also have to unpick a couple of times) then putting them on the right way in was even more of a farce! No one will have ever put jeans on in that uniquely bizarre way unless they too did the sewing on the body trick 😂

Sweetbeansandmochi · 27/09/2025 05:19

I am a bit too young so I am staying in with my reversible jumper and playing with my cotton candy my little pony and then I will watch Tales of the Unexpected, laying on the sofa with my mum, feeling a bit scared.

feathermucker · 27/09/2025 05:56

I’m in

embolass · 27/09/2025 06:37

Sorry I’m caught up blow drying my hair into a massive helmet shaped bob then spraying it with sun silk or insette hairspray so not a bit of it moves

Mikart · 27/09/2025 07:04

Id just moved to London at the age of 27 from oop North and was having a blast in a flatshare in Clapham .

shellyleppard · 27/09/2025 07:06

Sounds like a good plan. Are we going ice skating after?? Its Saturday and that's diaco night at my local rink 😁

EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin · 27/09/2025 07:07

I just turned 6 this week and as it’s Saturday I’m having my friends to my house for my birthday party. I have a cake, sandwiches, and sausages on sticks.

OhNoNotSusan · 27/09/2025 07:09

i would rather go to a real ale festival!

topcat2014 · 27/09/2025 07:15

I'm 15 and think I might come into town on the 20 seat "metro" buses we had. They were driven like racing cars which was fun. I liked going into woolworths to look at the mopeds they actually sold
