Labour isn't working - Thread 10

TheNuthatch · 24/09/2025 11:33

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

This is very true.

I still think my rabbit would be a better PM than Starmer

In fact now I think about it, Starmer has already done a super-Clouseau: “Release the sausages!

I’m hovering over the join button for Reform. Never thought I’d do it, but I do think something big needs to shift, and the Tories (I used to be a member) don’t have it in them. I’ve been keeping a watch over the last week or so and Reform’s membership numbers are increasing every day. They have a message up in red, saying at 309,000 they’ll beat Labour membership figures (that they got off the back of £3 membership fee!).

What radio / podcasts are you all listening to? I’ve gone over to Times radio in the last few weeks and I’m loving it. I couldn’t hack TRIP, as I was constantly flipping between hating the arrogance of Campbell or Stewart more. Such a tough contest. I’m also enjoying the Newscast podcast a lot.

I listen to R4 but read everything from Daily Mail through to Grauniad. I balance that by being on X though 🤣

We’re big on Times radio. When it’s not 6 music. Sometimes R4 but it gives me rage at times. I can never get round to podcasts. I should, dh does and is often saying listen to this or that.

Welcome to you and @HostaCentrallove that Labour is providing a buoyant thread.

To add - On online news apps my go to fave is the Telegraph, on user ability I think it’s the best, and some of the photographs are really damn good. Great shots. I balance it with R4 but I’ll not give up the app.

You do you. I don't blame anyone for thinking the same re Reform.

My favourite political pod is Political Currency with George Osborne and Ed Balls. I can't cope with TRIP either, it makes me angry 😂. I like TRIP USA though.
I listen to Politics at Sam and Anne's most days, sometimes Coffee House Shots. I used to be a big fan of Electoral Dysfunction as I love Ruth Davidson, but I struggle with it now since Harriet Harmen joined.
I listen to Times Radio most mornings too, it's great.

@CaveMum is our resident pod expert so I'm sure she'll have some more suggestions for you.

Sky news online is my current go to. We don’t have SKY or terrestrial tv, which I’m finding a blessing these last few months especially!

Absentosaur · 24/09/2025 17:00

I also don’t get along with podcasts. Apart from Trigonometry (though I thinks it’s spelt differently). Like those guys.

Plantatreetoday · 24/09/2025 17:10

I don’t do noise
So rarely listen to the radio.
Might put on R4 if I’m bored when decorating or need noise to speed me up
Otherwise I just read whatever news is out there

I find mumsnet are great for the news 👍

Upstartled · 24/09/2025 17:13

I really rate Triggernometry. I have got out of the habit of listening to it lately but I appreciate the long form and Kisin and Foster's questions, most of the time anyway. It isn't really nose up to UK political wranglings - but I don't listen to those types of podcasts at all now.

The sheep, can anyone tell me what they are??

They might be Kerry Hill.

EasternStandard · 24/09/2025 17:16

My new thing is to sync my iPhone to Alexa and listen to R6 music. That way I can fast forward ALL the news and any talking. Plus re listen to Guy Garvey and Iggy Pop. Game changer.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 24/09/2025 17:24

Thanks for the welcome, and the reminders about Trigonometry - a friend (recent Reform convert) recommended it recently but it’d gone clean out of my mind.

Pleased others hate TRIP as much as me. I wanted to like it. I love TRIH, but am very behind as I’m listening to so much politics after years of not engaging too much after Brexit (I was For) burnout!

I’ve booked my 2 Waitrose Christmas slots, holding them both with 2 bottles of gin. So whether I remember to update them, or not, I’ll be sorted!

Upstartled · 24/09/2025 17:29

It doesn't really land in Reform territory - and actually Kisin has been quite critical of the right starting to employ the same closing down strategies once used by the left, but it is thought provoking and doesn't slip into hyperbole.

SaladCreamLover · 24/09/2025 17:39

Excellent thread OP, not sure how I missed the others!

I'm another one who can't believe how much the other parties are banging on about Farage & co - do they really not understand that this is driving people towards them? I am (by modern standards at least) right of centre, but I'm not particularly fussed about Reform. I just wish the Tories were - well, better. I quite like Kemi though.

On the subject of Christmas, I am perhaps slightly old school in that I like slowly walking around the shop, picking out my bits... I've never witnessed a full on fight though, slightly jealous!

twistyizzy · 24/09/2025 17:39

R4 now, correspondant saying no-one she has spoken to, on any side of Labour, think Starmer will be a leader this time next year. Now talking about how they can depose him.

Yougov survey 8th Sept 25 had 47% wanting Starmer to stand down
Im assuming that’s gone up even since then.
