A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

At which point are they going to try to oust him then?! When was the rule change re making it easier to remove leaders happening?

I think it's already happened?
There can be a challenge at any time now, as long as the challenger(s) have the support of 80 MPs (I think). I believe there could only be a challenge at a specific time of year before the change.

I just enjoy watching Starmer struggle and squirm.

Just read this. This is a positive

Andy Burnham has said he disagrees with plans to introduce digital ID cards in Britain in another split with Sir Keir Starmer.

He’s such stirrer!

He's trying to agitate for a leadership challenge. He's not serious about wanting to do it himself; he's encouraging others to put their heads above the parapet.

Yes.. Japanese knotweed..

Upstartled · 29/09/2025 18:38

Oh, I read an article a few days ago and Rosie Duffield had said something about there being 80 disgruntled MPs in the Labour Party but I hadn't realised the significance.

This is very interesting thanks. I read it quickly but it seems the members count for more and the bit about Johnson was interesting too. That member polling could help Burnham if he were to get in a position to challenge.

If I’ve read it right, that quickly

Edited

Yes I saw that too, but didn't read it properly. I think she was saying that she would consider re-joining Labour if Burnham took over, and that he did have enough support.

Thank you for the link. It's cherrypicking (not recommended!), but I couldn't suppress a fleeting feeling of glee at these two paragraphs. We can but hope.

This looks outside anything we’ve seen for a long time. A new party adding over 300 seats in one term. Things might change but it just looks so different.

TheNuthatch · 29/09/2025 19:50

Wow. That' a big majority. It still shocks me when I see the polling for Reform. Its extraordinary what Farage has done, whatever you think of him.

The majority voted for Brexit based on spin and lies
That's what Farage is so good at
and people fall for it

I suspect many feel the same way about this Labour government, no?

All the bullshit they peddled during the election campaign.

Yes I think so.

Upstartled · 29/09/2025 20:41

That's two MRP polls where Reform would have an outright majority and, additionally, YouGov had them within 15 seats of that.

Brexit wasn’t based on spin and lies, and you are probably still failing to see the bigger picture here, and no doubt you will be ‘shocked’ again in the near future, because of your inability to understand other perceptions, or listen to other people.

I hear this a lot. It seems to make some remainers feel better if they can blame the result on lies.
I'm not sure that someone who feels as you do will ever understand the leave vote. You will, therefore, never understand why people are voting for Reform. I can't help you there.

Can you see the spin and lies from Labour? That's what people are angry about.
