A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thanks @twistyizzy and @upseedaisee. I did buy all of those from Ocado last year so I don't feel too bad now 😂. My lot ate 3 tins of festive munch last Xmas.

In other news, MN has listened to posters' protests about the colour changes, the choices are still pastel shades, but it's an improvement.

I don't mean to put the mockers on your takeaway bet, but I think an IMF bailout is unlikely at any point. I do think that the rate of borrowing could become so high, as we become an increasingly risky bet that the cascade of unintended consequences will be brutal.

This idea that you can just tax people more and more and that it won't lead to killing off productivity and ambition is the kind of ideology that has forgotten the human component in these virtue number games.

It’s a bit what we’re doing isn’t working so let’s do more of it.

Further and faster, tested to destruction.

Great article, thanks. Agree with every word. Starmer is the first PM I have ever despised too.

Yes he’s certainly an all time low for me too for PMs…

I have full Fomo. I don't have a subscription and too technically inept to get around it.

I can’t read it either but I agree with the headline 😬

Thank you @Absentosaur

Upstartled · 23/09/2025 10:37

Yes, I agree with everything he's written there and I think we've covered it all over these threads but to see it mapped out across one article and laid bare, is quite something.

I see Wes Streeting is having to do the media rounds today to tell people that paracetamol is safe in pregnancy .

Sometimes Trump will just throw this government a bone by allowing them to look sensible and statesman like by stating the bleeding obvious.

DancingFerret · 23/09/2025 10:54

Can't argue with Pollard's take on KS, but he could have expanded on that to include Reeves and the rest of clowns running down the UK and strangling growth.

For example: My DH is a vet primarily dealing with large animals. In our area there's a shortage of small animal practices, none is taking on new patients. Last year DH and his partners were drawing up plans to expand their premises and employ newly-qualified vets and nurses in order to meet local demand.

An idea which would have met a need, provided employment (and therefore boosted the government's coffers in terms of tax), opportunity for young professionals, and also a substantial project for a local building company has been shelved and probably won't see the light of day before we see the back of the lunatics in charge of the asylum.

Yes you're right there, but I was hoping the UK govt would come out swinging on this.
I was raging lastnight when I listened to Trump and Kennedy tbf.
I don't usually rant about Trump, but this is ridiculous and dangerous imo. I have a child with autism though, so maybe I felt it more than others.

That's a shame. Lots of businesses (mine included) scaling back and shelving future investment. Sounds like it would have been great for your dh's practice, and the community. I hope it sees daylight in the future.

Agree, and I’m off to the pharmacy for that miracle
autism cure - the whole family can take It and cure ourselves! It’s really hard to believe anyone could take this stuff seriously.

Upstartled · 23/09/2025 11:03

Yes. It's completely ridiculous. I think perhaps this is right up there with drinking bleach to fix covid and so it's beyond credence and beyond being dangerous.

But there's such a long history of autism being laid at the feet of mothers that I think that, even though it's easy to dismiss Trump, it too easily looks like another hit from that angle.

My dd actually asked me if I'd taken paracetamol when pregnant when she heard it. Broke my heart.
