A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Pretty funny!

NoWordForFluffy · 22/09/2025 18:12

Much like there always being a tweet...it's the natural order of the world!

EasternStandard · 22/09/2025 18:25

I've been on the app and have just looked on safari to post this. My goodness the posts! It's so bold and alarming Grin

‘With a hint of Rent Boy perspiration…’

Just popping in to say I have not been able to contribute since the beginning of the previous thread (my life is too busy or the news pile up too fast or both 😅) but I have read you all and your sane and sometimes also hilarious words have been a breath of fresh air!

And I join the choir about applying for citizenship, I did it this Spring and I should have done it much earlier, many good practical reasons but also personal ones, I was very moved during the ceremony and I still am, one of the best things I have done tbh.

EmpressoftheMundane · 22/09/2025 19:56

I became a citizen 10 years ago. This is my only passport. I am all in.

This shower will last another 4 years max. Reform may get in afterwards,

9 years max.

We'll outlast them.

That basically was what we used to pay much of the school fees. I've just sent an e-mail to school asking about what payment plans are available. Just in case we can't rent it or sell it I need to assume worst case scenario.

I completely understand why she's doing it. TBH we were going to sell my flat anyway 'eventually'. Just pushes it forwards most likely.

Edited

Can the school put a charge on your rental.

Some schools do this
When you sell they get their fees.
(plus interest )

I worry.

There is no rational thinking in politics. There is only opportunistic populism which leads to violent swings to the left or the right and blinkered ideology. And political shortsightedness.

And to that a complicated geopolitical situation and it's all a bit scary.

twistyizzy · 23/09/2025 07:44

Completely off topic but M+S xmas food order done and booked for pick up 😆😆

We will but I worry what won't be here by the time those 4 years are up.
I think we will start seeing slash and burn from Labour as they become more desperate.
They are incapable of looking at themselves so it will become a desperate lash out at everyone.
Things could get very scary indeed

I've put a bet on with my son that we will have an IMF bailout by Easter. I hope I'm wrong, but am confident enough to bet a takeaway on it.

Oh @twistyizzy I'm off to M&S today to make a start on Christmas today. Great minds and all that!

Yes. And that’s why the men in silicon valley that exacerbated the problems of the human race via smartphones and social media, are buying up / preparing nests (though nests sounds too cosy, more like futuristic hell holes) in parts of the world they can hide in. If need be.

White chocolate pine cones this year!

TheNuthatch · 23/09/2025 08:12

Good morning 😁

I see Farage managed to grab the headlines again yesterday. He really is superb at it. Whatever you think of him, he is a master at controlling the narrative.

At least we're not in the USA with Bobby Kennedy as Health Secretary 😱. Things could be worse.

I'm very impressed at the Xmas shopping orders. I would love to be that organised. Mine is usually last minute panic order from Ocado, although I do usually remember to order a turkey from the butcher.
I might do the same. Any recommendations for what to order from M&S??

Bloody Resolution Foundation are at it again.
If Reeves takes up their recommendation it takes 2p off NICs and puts it on income tax, that means nearly all pensioners would fall into the tax bracket as well as landlords and the self employed. So you're going to have the ridiculous state where oder people on pension credit will be paying tax, but working people would see a fall in some measure because the tax increase would be negated by the NICs decrease.

I despair I really do. I stand by my prediction of an IMF bailout by Easter.

It's just pushing a paperclip around at this point. Fiddling with 2p while Rome burns. They have no inspiration, no plan and no clue.

Interesting report on R4 from person who did catch a scorpion podcast (I didn’t listen to that) but covering what it’s like in an asylum hotel. Brings more of the human side to it, what is covered and what’s not.

Labour MP responding now, usual blaming of last gov and obfuscation.

Rivalled · 23/09/2025 08:29

I agree @twistyizzy desperate govt trying every trick they can to raise tax on people they don’t think vote for them.

fiddling with NI isn’t going to make up for the pay rises lost and jobs lost through their policies so far.

upseedaisee · 23/09/2025 08:29

The Peanut butter and Jelly munch is a handy munchy tub to have around. I'm off to peruse later. I am very fond of their cranberry jaffa cakes and always buy a bottle or two of their sloe fizz and cranberry bucks fizz.
I tend to buy a bit here and there when I'm out and about rather than a full one and done shop.
I also get the turkey from the butcher.
In case you're super lazy, I noticed Sainsburys are doing Chrstmas dinner in a box, Turkey, trimmings and sides for 4 for £50.
