A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Other countries seem to care more about the UK than our own government. Say what you like about Donald Trump but he cares more for our country than Starmer, who seems intent on destroying it. He really dislikes Sadiq Khan for the total mess he's made of London and I don't blame him one bit. How on earth did that man ever get a knighthood? How is he able to keep his job? He's just total and utter disgrace.

I also think if the conservatives want to win, they need to start going on the hustings, good old fashioned meet the people type stuff instead of visiting companies and farms. This is, I believe, the reason Reform does so well in the polls. Their members and MP's are out there meeting people and holding meetings throughout the country. In my county alone, there have been 4 since the last election, the conservatives have been conspicuous by their absence and because of that, no-one but the party faithful really knows what they stand for anymore.

I am on the border of two constituencies. One (mine) is a Labour MP. The other is a conservative. The Labour got in when our last very visible Tory MP got kicked out. I have lived here 20 years and in ALL that time have never had a Labour MP or party member try and canvas us directly. I have never seen the Labour now-MP attend any community event. The number of times I have seen him say anything in the local papers is under 5 times. And we are in a major economically depressed area. When the shit was hitting the fan over Rayner I spotted him walking his dogs- nowhere near parliament.

Next-door's conservative candidate however is visible everywhere. He's always popping up at Question time. He takes his job seriously, I think. He's at so many community events, often just mingling and being approachable. That makes a difference IMO.

Banging on about contribution? They fuck all over net contributers and tell them they have to bleed.

This will play right into Reform's hands

It was a gift to them, £600 on a taxi to a doctor appointment. It was a good interview, on R4. Actually talking to people and not glossing over the realities.

Can anyone tell me how much debt the UK is in currently? Its probably my frazzled brain but I googled it and can't find the latest figures.

Thanks!

Rivalled · 24/09/2025 11:16

If I got a £600 taxi somewhere for work,
fairly sure my company would refuse to pay. Who signed off on an automated taxi booking system with no limit for the transaction?

It seems Labour are unaware of a few things in hotels. It takes an interviewer to get this information.

Sorry didn't mean to post twice!

This is from ONS

  • Borrowing – the difference between total public sector spending and income – was £18.0 billion in August 2025; this was £3.5 billion more than in August 2024 and the highest August borrowing for five years.
  • Borrowing in the financial year to August 2025 was £83.8 billion; this was £16.2 billion more than in the same five-month period of 2024 and the second-highest April to August borrowing since monthly records began in 1993, after that of 2020.
  • The current budget – borrowing to fund day-to-day public sector activities – was £13.6 billion in August 2025; this brings the total current budget deficit in the financial year to August 2025 to £62.0 billion, which is £13.8 billion more than in the same five-month period of 2024.

Ohmygod! Animal Farm meets 1984. George Orwell would gobsmacked at his works of fiction actually becoming reality.

Nice! Thanks to Starmer Reeves and co.

strawberrybubblegum · 24/09/2025 11:44

They're clearly trying to 'take back the narrative' on net contributors paying for everything and getting back nothing.

Sorry Labour, the cat is out of the bag. We won't forget. We're not students who you can fool with warm fuzzies.

Absentosaur · 25/09/2025 15:53

Not such a loss for Labour, given their comms are so bad. Not that I think that’s the reason they’re doing so badly of course. 😂😂🤷‍♀️
