I fell asleep in the cinema

I went to see the Downton Abbey film and fell asleep. I felt like a fool. I bought another ticket and stayed awake this time. Has anyone else done that?

It's not a reflection on the film, it was excellent, just me feeling knackered.

I’ve done it - one of life’s little joys

Notjustabrunette · 15/09/2025 21:33

When I was pregnant went to see a play.
The comfy seat and low lighting sent me off to sleep in minutes.

VenusClapTrap · 15/09/2025 21:34

Yep. I fell asleep in Dune. The sequel, whatever it was called. It’s very long, and it was warm in there.

TeenagersAngst · 15/09/2025 21:34

I only go to films showing before 6pm because I regularly fall asleep in cinemas. Drives DH mad who can stay awake for days.

Didntask · 15/09/2025 21:35

I quite enjoy a nap at the cinema. I always take a scarf with me to lay across me 😅. The Vue VIP seats are fab for napping.

Kneeslikethese · 15/09/2025 21:35

Definitely nodded off for bits of many films, not a whole film. Usually ones I've been dragged to see that I'd no particular interest in.

So many times it’s not even on my radar anymore! 🤣

skilpadde · 15/09/2025 21:35

Oh gosh yes. Three films and a comedy show (sorry, Dara O’Briain) before I finally admitted defeat and stopped buying tickets for anything on a Friday night. After a long week at work, nothing is compelling enough for me to stay awake through.

I fell asleep through part of the Stranger Things play, I was gutted as I’d been really looking forward to it! I woke up very confused and still don’t really understand what actually happened at the end Grin

In my defence, I was about 5 months pregnant and exhausted!

RoverReturn · 15/09/2025 21:36

Regularly back in the late 80s when I was a tired student.

DinoLil · 15/09/2025 21:37

I've done that more times than I can count! I wake up about two thirds of the way through and creep out and crawl home. The reason I always sit on the front row 😆

Dolamroth · 15/09/2025 21:37

I fell asleep during The Favourite. I had been up since 5am and flown to visit my friend so I think it was the combination of knackered, comfy chair, dark. I really liked the film!

CuppaWhiteTea · 15/09/2025 21:37

I fell asleep right at the start of the Usual Suspects and woke up right at the big reveal. Gutted!

FanofLeaves · 15/09/2025 21:38

When I lived in South Korea I’d purposely go to the cinema to fall asleep. Earplugs in, huge comfy sofa seat, blanket on and the air con whacked up. My apartment was so hot and noisy during the day and the nights out took their toll! Don’t think I could do it now but I loved my cinema sleeps then 🤣

IworkMiracles · 15/09/2025 21:39

Fantastic beasts, second film, big fight scene, lots flashes and bangs.
Sound asleep. It's a skill.

Marmite27 · 15/09/2025 21:39

Napping at the cinema is one of my great pleasures. Usually when I take the kids to see stuff I don’t care about though.

However, my ex moaned that I slept through Gladiator, which was the final straw!

Namechangeagain3963 · 15/09/2025 21:40

Nope! Never fallen asleep anywhere that wasn't my bed (or maybe once or twice on the sofa)... Jealous of those who can sleep anywhere!

everythingisstillawesome · 15/09/2025 21:40

I very rarely don’t fall asleep in the cinema. Mmmm, nice relaxing cinema naps. I then check the synopsis on IMDB to work out what I missed.

Blackcountryexile · 15/09/2025 21:41

Many years ago I managed to sleep through Close Encounters of the Third Kind in a cinema in Leicester Square. Have also slept through quieter films in less prestigious venues since.

went to see Matilda the musical when DC2 was about 3 months old. It was warm in the stalls and I was knackered. I’ve still not seen the second half Blush

yousillygoose · 15/09/2025 21:41

I fell asleep watching Oppenheimer! I have no idea how as that film was so loud!
My husband had to prod me awake because I started snoring 🙈 Still haven’t seen the last hour..

Chemenger · 15/09/2025 21:41

I fell asleep in the theatre in New York (jet lag and a busy work schedule). When I went to sleep a rather dull town meeting was happening, when I woke up lots of people were covered in blood. I never really figured out that play.

AnotherDayanotherNameChangeX · 15/09/2025 21:41

How are you all managing to fall asleep with all that noise?!!!

BramStoner · 15/09/2025 21:42

It’s a surprise when I don’t fall asleep.

GlastoNinja · 15/09/2025 21:42

Love a cinema nap. I don’t understand why you’re even thinking twice about it
