I fell asleep in the cinema

I went to see the Downton Abbey film and fell asleep. I felt like a fool. I bought another ticket and stayed awake this time. Has anyone else done that?

It's not a reflection on the film, it was excellent, just me feeling knackered.

Harry Potter. The first one.
lasted about 10 mins before crashing out.
snored.
Kids still laugh at me now about it.

It’s a surprise when I don’t fall asleep.

Same here!

prelovedusername · 15/09/2025 22:22

I always fall asleep in the cinema, I’ve had to stop going.

KitKatKathy · 15/09/2025 22:22

I have never stayed awake through a whole film - I honestly don't understand how people can keep their eyes focused for that long.

How are you all managing to fall asleep with all that noise?!!!

I fall asleep in the opera, such a waste!

rainbowlou · 15/09/2025 22:24

It’s the reason I don’t go to the cinema anymore.
Totally wasted on me! 😀

choirmumoftwo · 15/09/2025 22:24

I do it all the time. It isn’t usually a reflection on the film either!

DuckBushCityLimit · 15/09/2025 22:24

I'm a terrible sleeper anywhere else, but those reclining leather seats at our local Vue just seem to be my magical sleepy place. I know the film's good if I don't doze off!

Theyreeatingthedogs · 15/09/2025 22:24

I've fallen asleep in the cinema and at musicals. Also in the Greenwich planetarium, it was sooooo relaxing.

NoelFurlong · 15/09/2025 22:27

My friend and I often reminisce about all of the films we slept through when our kids were small. We used to love a cinema snooze.

Antimimisti · 15/09/2025 22:27

I nearly fell asleep in a Teams meeting once - camera was on, too! I caught myself just in time. I was recovering from a bout of Covid and hadn't been sleeping well, and the meeting had deteriorated into a long, dull discussion between a couple of people, and I realised my eyelids were starting to close.

sittingonabeach · 15/09/2025 22:31

Went to a classical concert with DH. Slept all the way through, and the concert wasn’t quiet (hopefully masked any snoring) 😳 Found out a few days later I was pregnant. Which seems to be a theme for a few posters 😂

Slept through the first hour of the original Dune film. No pregnancy hormones this time, just bored!

Dozed through quite a few children’s films when watching with DC

Oh gosh yes. Three films and a comedy show (sorry, Dara O’Briain) before I finally admitted defeat and stopped buying tickets for anything on a Friday night. After a long week at work, nothing is compelling enough for me to stay awake through.

Not just me then, I fell asleep at a Dara O'Briain show, he was so bloody boring! Thankfully he didn't notice 😂

I love a kip at the cinema!

Watto1 · 15/09/2025 22:33

I fell asleep during Starlight Express in the West End. I was jet lagged - no reflection on the performance. The people I was with couldn’t believe I was snoozing with people roller skating literally inches away from my head!

🎵 I told your parents we'd be home by ten
Suzy baby looks like we goofed again... 🎵

all together now.....

macaroni234 · 15/09/2025 22:37

Almost fell asleep in The Long Walk at the cinema at the weekend. The chair wasn’t tall enough to put my head back against though. I also snore so it was a blessing really as I had someone right next to me.
I’ve always fallen asleep places. I can sleep in the car and on trains. Slept most of the way to New York. My kids are even more skilled. They slept most of he night on the floor of an airport and in the back of the car when we had to escape a forest fire in the US.

Middlemarch123 · 15/09/2025 22:39

Titanic. Eyes drooping as Jack was drawing Rose.
Eyes flickered awake as Jack was flailing around trying to get on the bit of wood.
Oh it was so sad, I said repeatedly. I’ve watched it since and always fall asleep.
Never stayed awake during a James Bond film, or a Harry Potter either.

Franpie · 15/09/2025 22:39

My DH every single time!

I’ve given up buying him theatre tickets now as it’s one thing paying £15 for him to sleep through a film, quite another paying £100+ for him to sleep in the theatre where the actors can actually see him sleeping 😳

HorrorFan81 · 15/09/2025 22:40

I don't think I've ever known my DH stay awake for a whole film in the cinema. He's the same at home. Movie goes on, 9 times out of 10 he will fall asleep at some point. I pretty much never do tho unless I am hungover. Other than dog man which was so bad I actually forced my body to take a nap so I could reduce the amount of time I had to spend watching it 🤣

scaredfriend · 15/09/2025 22:41

Oh I love a cinema nap. Vue have those amazing recliner chairs. Worth every penny of my £5.99 ticket to have a comfy sneaky daytime nap!

youalright · 15/09/2025 22:41

Yeah done it a couple of times.

Imisscoffee2021 · 15/09/2025 22:42

I worked in cinemas as a student in a management role and it was surprisingly common, and some people tried to claim a refund too. Some guy said it was our fault he fell asleep because it was too warm and the seats were too soft.

SuperBlondie28 · 15/09/2025 22:44

I fell asleep during the 2nd Captain America film, which was very surprising as I was really looking forward to it. When I watched it back on blu ray, I'd slept through quite a bit lol

I've shut my eyes during other films too. I wish I'd slept through the last James Bond film. I only went to please the hubby 😴 He slept instead.

It must be the darkness, comfy seat, warmth. I can never sleep on a plane and both cinema and plane are loud environments 🙉

TroysMammy · 15/09/2025 22:46

I fell asleep watching Hunt For Red October. When it came out on video I watched it in bed. Yup, I fell asleep again.

My friend and I both fell asleep watching The Matrix. We wanted to see The Mummy but our husband's decided on Keanu.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 15/09/2025 22:47

I fell asleep during "The Mummy", goodness, must have been nearly 30 years ago! I feel so old. I had just went with friends and it really wasn't my cup of tea!
