I fell asleep in the cinema

I went to see the Downton Abbey film and fell asleep. I felt like a fool. I bought another ticket and stayed awake this time. Has anyone else done that?

It's not a reflection on the film, it was excellent, just me feeling knackered.

I fell asleep at the opera once - was also shattered

Thistooshallpsss · 16/09/2025 01:02

I fell asleep during a Rolling Stones concert at Wembley arena but I’ve cracked it now. Buy a strong black coffee and sip and snooze during the adverts then by the time the film starts the caffeine has a chance to work

My dad fell asleep during every film we ever saw at the cinema when I was a child. It appears there’s some truth to marrying men who are like your father… because while very different people my husband also falls asleep at the cinema every single time. I try and get popcorn in his mouth when he does it.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/09/2025 04:12

I Did on the 4th Harry Potter film. I’d got Potter fatigue by then. My best friend always falls asleep every single time we go to the cinema.

NatalieH2220 · 16/09/2025 06:02

So many times! Before we had children me and DH went to the cinema loads. Usually at night. I’d nap through a lot of them 😅

NeverCouldGetTheHangOfThursdays · 16/09/2025 17:44

That's the reason I gave up going to the cinema, I always fall asleep! No idea why because I don't do it anywhere else. Oh, except I did fall asleep at a Foo Fighters concert at the O2 a few years ago 😂

LividYosemite · 16/09/2025 17:46

The first sign I was pregnant was falling asleep in the cinema. I woke up during the credits and the idea was prickling in my head.

When I was pregnant I think I snoozed through 50% of films.

Done it loads of times. Usually when watching some kids film (I had no idea what happened at the end of encanto until it was released on Disney plus 😂)

Beachtastic · 16/09/2025 19:06

When I'm tired I can fall asleep anywhere. I once fell fast asleep in an MRI scan, the radiographer said that was a first for him!

My husband has had many MRIs on both his back and his head. He always falls asleep 😂

I once fell asleep standing up at a Chemical Brothers concert.

😍😍😍😍😍😍

ColinRobinsonsFart · 17/09/2025 13:37

I have slept through most of the Lord of the rings films… fall asleep at a fighting scene in a forest, wake up at a fighting scene in a forest…

TigerRag · 17/09/2025 13:39

I once fell asleep at a gig. Serves me right for going to see a jazz musician whilst feeling tired...

Fell asleep at the cinema during Guardians of the galaxy. Went back to watch it again

ColinRobinsonsFart · 17/09/2025 13:39

I also fell asleep ( probably due to the copious amounts of alcohol) at Download… on the grass at DHs feet.

metallica came on… woke up as they finished..

wildfellhall · 17/09/2025 13:42

I’ve just remembered I slept through most of Kevin Spacey (🙈) at the Almeida in ‘The Ice-Man Cometh’ in the late 90s - it felt like it went on for days and was so grim but just couldn’t keep my eyes open and was very worried I’d do one of those noisy wake up whelps or snorts or something.

Much worse I was in a production meeting with a now very powerful TV executive when I was a freelance researcher and I struggled to keep my eyes open - embarrassing! No one said anything at the time but my contract wasn’t renewed - quite rightly.

SingingSands · 17/09/2025 13:47

I used to wear my massive down-filled coat to the cinema when I took the kids to see anything when they were young. I'd spread it over me like a duvet and enjoy an hour's nap. Kids were happy, I was happy!

Frankenpug23 · 17/09/2025 13:52

My DH did all the time when the kids were younger- his specialty is sleeping through musical film (think the Aladdin film with will smith as an example!) It’s one of lifes joys for him - why on earth are you worrying about it? 😀

HRTQueen · 17/09/2025 13:53

its the perfect place to have a nap, dark, cosy seats and I always take a big scarf

😃
I fell asleep at Oasis concert at Knebworth. apparently i was being stepped over I was woken up and well I could have happily fallen back to sleep again

Agree with pp the Greenwich Planetarium is the perfect napping space so relaxing, I think they should have open nights as a treatment for insomnia

Being able to nap is a very useful skill, one I am proud to excel in

Finteq · 17/09/2025 14:02

Moana 2

The middle.part dragged on

Fiddy1964 · 17/09/2025 17:11

I'm terrible, fall asleep at cinema most times and whats worse, I snore 😳.
Usually go with my son and he's forever nudging me awake. It happens because it usually gets very warm in the cinema which makes me sleepy and those recliner seats just seal the deal 😴

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 17/09/2025 17:14

I fell asleep watching Armageddon at the cinema.

That was definitely a reflection of the film.

Bananajam · 17/09/2025 17:40

I'm a regular cinema sleeper and I've never managed to get through the planetarium show awake either. Its just so comfortable, warm and relaxing!

Geranium1984 · 17/09/2025 17:41

Yes, during the twilight film
