It's been 9 horrible months and I find myself looking back on those "eating the cats and dogs" days with nostalgia.

Yes that mouth slide on the face is similar to the after effects of a stroke. No amount of Botox can correct it. It's a difficult situation to hide in public. Did he walk to the ceremony and sit down unassisted? Or did Melania aide him as in guide with soft support by side?

ETA I think he's lost weight.

That looks like the face of a man who's had a left hemiplegic stroke. He looks dreadful. His right shoulder is drooping, too.

He looks dreadful/very unwell today. I wonder if 'something' will happen that means that the state visit will have to be postponed?

Maybe Starmer already knows it's going to be postponed which makes the Mandelson situation less awkward...

On 9/11 my son was a month old. My late mum was visiting. Had spoken to my sister who lives in New York the week before and she was looking forward to agency working in South Tower. Obviously the phones went down, no way of contacting her.

Later we found out that thankfully she called in sick that day, having worked there the previous day.

24 years ago I was in a pub and saw footage on the TV
that I thought was a film.
Man near the screen said "nobody cares, its foreigners"
I made my point and walked away.
A while later he came out into the garden to apologise to me.

My dad was OK.
New York was not.

I'm very glad for your sister – but how traumatic for her.

I was working in financial services software. Just got back from lunch and someone jokingly said "a plane has just hit the WTC"., we assumed it was a little Cessna. Then they said, "Hang on ... there can't be 2".

We all gathered around the BBC website within seconds people were making calls as a couple of people knew people who worked in NYC.

It was a wave of horror ... even now hard to convey.

I also heard it during my lunchbreak, something plane crashed near the WTC.

Got back into the office and everyone was gathered around a screen watching in horror

Both DBs worried me ... One was in the US who drifted in and out of Washington for 9/11. I wasn't worried when it was NYC, but when they reported the Pentagon bomber ....

The other one buzzes around London a lot, so when 7/7 happened, it caused a spike in anxiety.

Both OK, thankfully. My heart goes out to those who weren't.

Her mental health has never been good since a teenager but she strangely found comfort in the fact that she didn't feel mentally well enough to go in. She needed a rest day. We no longer have contact but I always think of her on this day.

BIL was on the last day of a business trip to New York. He was due to have breakfast with US colleagues in the top floor restaurant but one of them had a work crisis that needed his attention so they had breakfast brought into his office in a nearby tower from where they saw the second plane hit. It was late evening before we knew plans had been changed.
An American friend of ours had just moved the the UK a few weeks before having previously worked in one of the towers on a high floor. He was working at one of the big city law firms. He was understandably distressed and wanted to go home but was told not to be a wimp and to stay at his desk. He didn't and subsequently changed jobs and came to our area to work for a much smaller and more human firm.

Pictures of him later look normal.

Reports are his video on Kirk was AI generated because he can’t/didn't want to say anything after Kirk called for release of Epstein files. This could be Trump sending a message to his acolytes that Epstein files cannot and will not be released. Stay in line or suffer consequences.

I did wonder quite early on if the ghastly satsuma had ordered Kirk's execution to deter others who want the files to be released

FBI have recovered a high-powered, bolt action rifle (Mauser .30 calibre) hidden in a towel in a wooded area. They also have the spent cartridge from the chamber and three other rounds loaded in the magazine.

Also, the 9/11 service at the Pentagon was moved to within their walls on security grounds.
