It's been 9 horrible months and I find myself looking back on those "eating the cats and dogs" days with nostalgia.

@CaveMum I think I posted this on the old thread last night, it seems the rules changed very recently to allow open carry on campus

I just thought it was security 101 to check for snipers on rooves before any politician does an outdoor event. There is a video on X of someone where they've filmed a guy who ran across the roof seemingly before it started, so if the crowd can see it, why couldn't security?
Will see if I can find it

But Charlie Kirk wasn’t a politician so any security would probably just be standard campus security, unless he paid for his own?

Either way it’s tragic. I fundamentally disagree with many of his views (I won’t say all because I don’t know what his thoughts were on everything) but no one deserves to be murdered for their opinions.

Thanks for the new thread @Spandauer

Being a pedant, but if he wasn't a politician, how can Trump state this was a political attack?

OrangeCrushes · 11/09/2025 09:53

@CaveMum my conspiracy theory (which I 100% made up) from last thread is based on how professional a hit this seems to be. I can't help but think of Putin and the bombings which helped to aid his rise to power (often suspected to be a false flag operation)

Re are things coming to some kind of crisis, ordinarily I would say yes, but I don't actually think so in this case.

Purely because the Trump administration has already been doing the things one might be concerned about as an over-response... when there wasn't anything legit to respond to.

They came into this election planning to go full authoritarian and have been rolling that out since day 1. There's nowhere for them to escalate to. They're already there.

But Charlie Kirk going to a speaking engagement at a university doesn’t equal Secret Service protection. He’s a Podcaster, not the POTUS (remember—Kamala doesn’t even get Secret Service protections on her book tour engagements). I don’t know what the security protocols at this university will be when guest speakers come, but I assume it would be the same for each speaker that comes to their university, ie, not the Secret Service.

I thought it was quite recently that Trump removed Kamala's protection, but I get the point, I assumed he was prominent in the Trump campaign as everyone seems to be saying they did so much together and he was his right hand man etc etc.

PerkingFaintly · 11/09/2025 09:57

As we've no idea who the shooter was or anything about motivation, we don't even know a "flag" which then might have been false.

The youngster who shot at Trump had donated to the Republicans.🤷‍♀️

CaveMum · 11/09/2025 09:58

I’ve just read on BBC that Charlie Kirk did have his own security (presumably we’re talking close protection/bodyguards rather than a team that sweep venues for threats) and 6 local police officers were also on site.

@FirstCuppa Trump will spin it anyway he can, I guess it would be more accurate to call it “politically motivated” but of course until they find the culprit we won’t know for sure what the motivation was.

OrangeCrushes · 11/09/2025 10:01

@PerkingFaintly I did not say this is what has happened and I am openly calling it a conspiracy theory.

A problem that occurs when immoral, fascist, authoritarian liars come into power is that people stop knowing what is true and start grasping at straws. I'm not normally one to even entertain this type of idea, but I also would put literally nothing past the Project 2025 / MAGA leaders.

FirstCuppa · 11/09/2025 10:02

Yes, there were two bearded burly guys at the front corners of his tent anyway, which is why I thought he had some form of security.

It just seems very out of character for the left, particularly because of his gun stance. I wonder if it might come out that he had something nefarious in his private life that would affect Trump - pure speculation of course. Unlikely we would know now.

CK never held a senior role in the Trump administration. He was a guy with a strong social media following who liked crowing his bigly ideas on stage at Trump rallies. A bit like Elon before he got his government job at DOGE. Sure, the local police at an event have their eye out, but if you want your own bespoke security, you need to hire your own team.

Well there we have it—he didn’t see snipers as a risk, so only hired close bodyguards to stand by his side.

FirstCuppa · 11/09/2025 10:19

If he wasn't a political ally on their political team it shouldn't be being called a political attack. He had clearly offended multiple groups of people on both sides of the left/right, so Trump's AI jumping video does seem deliberately inflammatory.

Still wondering how in a country full of guns, people who go out proclaiming extreme views don't think they might be a target. But hey, not my circus.

He was part of the cult of the gun. If he had survived, I doubt he would have changed his mind on that. These are the risks you run when as a nation you choose not to have gun control.

It could all go a bit Murder on the Orient Express here ...

Who could have a beef against CK ?

Let's start with the parent of a child slain in a school shooting. That should narrow it down to a few hundred.

bloodredfeaturewall · 11/09/2025 10:32

thank you for the new thread

regarding guns - I understand the need in very rural areas, especially where you have dangerous wildlife. but no one but specialist military/police needs a sniper weapon.

PiggyPigalle · 11/09/2025 10:33

I feel like the only person today who's never heard of Charlie Kirk.
If it wasn't for that damn gunman, I probably never would have.
I like to have talk stations on while I get things done, but today the only words I hear are Charlie Kirk, assassination and Trump. So it's silence in the house and hope it stops soon as I'm at saturation point from Trump's America.

Well some can.
