It's been 9 horrible months and I find myself looking back on those "eating the cats and dogs" days with nostalgia.

I find this whole thing sickening. Charlie Kirk should not have been murdered, no matter the motivation, and I feel hugely sad for his family.

However, he was a media star and political activist. He wasn't a politician, he wasn't a veteran. Will the flag be raised at half mast for the death of everyone. Of course not. Those calling for revenge again Democrats didn't speak up when the actual politicians were murdered very recently. Trump had to be persuaded to fly the flag at half mast for John McCain - a man who'd devoted most of his life to public service.

That Trump is weaponising this disgusts me but sadly doesn't surprise me. He wants a civil war so he can shut down the midterms. He is revolting.

Oh dear, I know it's wrong to state the obvious, but his kids...
Jesus. I think there'd be a few in UK lining up to fire shots just hearing what he was on about.

Actually wouldn't be beyond the realms to think his wife might have had a hand in it - imagine having that being taught to your kids on the daily? He was wanging on about women over 30 being past it too wasn't he, when he married her at 32?

PerkingFaintly · 11/09/2025 11:01

@FirstCuppa if that's intended to be some sort of joke, it's not funny.

And if it's not intended to be some sort of joke, then your posts are heading rapidly for (are already at?) unhinged.

Peter Mandelson is no longer US ambassador.

It's taken them long enough! I wonder what US commentators will say about it, it certainly doesn't take Epstein off the front pages.

FirstCuppa · 11/09/2025 11:05

It's very hard to not sound unhinged, given his talk topics. I don't think it has passed anyone by that he was a victim of something he thought should be mainstream, he wanted kids to watch executions and they have and he had extreme views on multiple things including when a woman is "too old" which happened to include his wife. If a woman came on here and said their husband was telling everyone he wanted to take kids to watch an execution, HE would be the person being called unhinged. You couldn't write this stuff.

I’ve just seen that news. Does anyone else not feel that puts Keir Starmer in an interesting position vis à vis Trump (in relation to Epstein) for the State Visit?

OrangeCrushes · 11/09/2025 10:01

@PerkingFaintly I did not say this is what has happened and I am openly calling it a conspiracy theory.

A problem that occurs when immoral, fascist, authoritarian liars come into power is that people stop knowing what is true and start grasping at straws. I'm not normally one to even entertain this type of idea, but I also would put literally nothing past the Project 2025 / MAGA leaders.

I'm also on team 'inside job'.
Trump really needs a martyr to galvanize the base: who better than this guy.
This is a measure of how threatened he feels by the Epstein thing, and of course he always has bragged that he can have people killed with impunity.

Maybe Lammy will be wheeled out again. Him and Vance are besties after all - spot of illegal fishing, anyone?

Still stuck on news from the USA. Between Trump and Farage, we're being Americanized.
I'm true blue but would never go near their politics. Farage rightly worries about us losing our cultural identity, then sells us out to Republican ideals.
We are European!

That video does trigger the uncanny valley for me, which hints at AI. Feels weird to say it (MAGA-style fake news) but I'm wondering if it was filmed, then edited and touched up with AI. Given the incompetence of the US administration, it would not surprise me.

Trump has been seen IRL - right?

I'm starting to wonder if Trump will actually come.

Long time lurker on these very informative threads.

Lalgarh · 11/09/2025 11:55

The Trump visit is already said to be "private", presumably BC The Donald seems not to be very mobile, or possibly sentient, judging by the Is Trump Dead thread

CaveMum · 11/09/2025 12:02

George Osborne was the runner up for the US Ambassador role (George disclosed that he had been approached about the job on Political Currency a few weeks ago and Robert Peston brought it up again on today's Rest is Money) so will be interesting to see if he is asked again, if he even wants it now!

Lalgarh · 11/09/2025 12:05

I think trump will become a version of Putin; constantly in fear for his life which will be dominated by the various complex measures required to ward off assassination attempts.
He's already assembling his team of oligarchs who are obligated to grovel at his feet if they want to keep their vast fortunes. How long before the defenestrations start, or will he stick with the sniper method?

You’re right. It is both frustrating and horrifying watching it unfold from afar. Plus another school shooting yesterday. Not to mention ICE agents “legitimately” stopping people in a car park in Van Nuys simply because of their skin colour (sorry if this has already been quoted): https://abc7.com/post/federal-agents-detain-multiple-people-gunpoint-van-nuys-video-shows/17782297/ (The FB comments on this are absolutely disgraceful, but serve to prove why Trump is where he is today.)

Oh, and I forgot to say earlier, thank you for the new thread, @Spandauer.

Video captures the moment federal agents surrounded a car and detained multiple people at gunpoint in Van Nuys.

If only he'd had the foresight to add the "ballroom" to the first floor, with a lovely elevated balcony . . .

BustingBaoBun
what an awful thing for his wife and young children.

I dunno.... in the immediate present, yes, but those kids may be better off in the long run. Having that for a father would be god-awful.

My quiet feeling is that the Man Kirk was very vocal about the Epstein files, so his death not only serves to shut him up on the subject, but also provides Trump with one more "look! there's Elvis!" moment with which to try to distract the Maga world from one particular close friendship, the Donny-Jeffrey one.

Edited

He did want them to see an execution too.
I hope they find something from it that shows whatever he hoped that would teach them, poor things. As I said up-thread it's not as if most people would have him down as father of the year.

I wonder if Trump will use this as an excuse not to come? Safety and all that - can't go to a country with terrible free speech and the US is in mourning and needs me now. really because he has already died I'm on that bandwagon with popcorn!

BustingBaoBun · 11/09/2025 14:31

Only just watched that Trump video, his hands are so weird
