About 9.30pm about an hour before bed

when my DH comes to bed which is about 2.30am but he does forget a lot!

Chickoletta · 08/09/2025 21:47

When we go to bed. I’ve never really understood why people lock themselves into their homes, but then, I’ve never lived anywhere which made this feel necessary, I guess.

NuffSaidSam · 08/09/2025 21:47

As soon as I walk in the door. I'd forget otherwise.

Yamyamabroad · 08/09/2025 21:48

Bed time

ThisIsHowWeDoItThisIsHowWeDoIt · 08/09/2025 21:48

Our door is locked all of the time.

goodnightssleepbenice · 08/09/2025 21:48

When we go to bed about 11ish

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 08/09/2025 21:48

Front door is always locked but I put the chain on around 10pm which is my version of closing up for the night.

Allseeingallknowing · 08/09/2025 21:49

It’s always locked. Back door and gate are too. Why would I leave them open for some opportunist ?

PashaMinaMio · 08/09/2025 21:49

I live in a lovely semi rural area, very safe, low crime but my doors front & back remain locked whenever I’m in the house. All day, all night, as required.

If someone came through my front door and I was at the back of the house in the kitchen for example, I’d never know so I keep myself locked in.
Its second nature to me.

strawlight · 08/09/2025 21:50

We lock it when we shut it because why not!

Saponarium · 08/09/2025 21:50

It's locked all the time. I live alone. I double check it just before I get into bed though, around 10ish.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/09/2025 21:50

Our front door is always locked. The back gets locked at bedtime as the cat is in and out until then, plus the “middle door” to the utility room between the kitchen and garden.

Dbank · 08/09/2025 21:50

We only engage the mortice lock when we leave the house unattended, otherwise at night it's just the automatic latch (Banham)

I generally lock the back door around 22:00 hrs as the back garden is fairly secure.

menopausalfart · 08/09/2025 21:50

All the time. I've lived in some dodgy places, and it's become a habit.

CaramelGhost · 08/09/2025 21:50

Our doors are locked all of the time.

DrCoconut · 08/09/2025 21:51

Our door is always locked unless we are going through it. I have previously had someone come into my house and it was a horrible and scary experience. I don't know how people can sit there with the door unlocked knowing that at any point someone could walk in and rob them.

onwardandupwards · 08/09/2025 21:51

Never as there's no handle on the outside so cannot be opened at all from outside

Hedonism · 08/09/2025 21:51

You can't open ours from the outside without a key, so it's always locked.

Amiunemployable · 08/09/2025 21:52

Our front door is locked all the time, but that's only because our street has a weird layout and the parking is out the back not the front, so we use the back gate and back door and never the front.

I lock up the back door when I go to bed. Whatever time that is. Not earlier because I'm always in and out of the back smoking!

ConflictofInterest · 08/09/2025 21:53

Always locked, front and back, I'm surprised so many people don't lock theirs in the day, I panic if I forget to lock it immediately after coming in.

Rightandwrong · 08/09/2025 21:54

My front door is always locked. I use the back door. Very interested to see others on this thread do similar.
I lock the back door when I go up to bed.

Sadcafe · 08/09/2025 21:56

When we go to bed, DS always puts the chain on if we sat outside before that

RuthW · 08/09/2025 21:57

My door is always locked.

MissAnthr0pe · 08/09/2025 21:57

Door is always locked as it automatically locks when shut. Double lock it just before bedtime.

whatwasthatnoise · 08/09/2025 22:02

I always lock it when I get home. I unlock it just before the kids are due home from school then lock it when the last one is home.
When DH works away (not often) I check the door is locked before I go to bed. More than once I've found the door unlocked, and my house keys in the lock on the outside 🙈😂
