DH & I were out blackberrying and had forgotten about the alarm. Nearly dropped the container when my phone went off in my pocket 😂

LyndaSnellsSniff · 07/09/2025 17:40

No siren. However, we were at a concert which was due to start at 3pm. They delayed the start and asked everyone to switch off their phones. Not everyone did and a siren sounded halfway through the concert.

What would they even use that alert for?

Floods, extreme winds, local chemical factory on fire, wildfires...

fromthechandelier · 07/09/2025 17:51

No siren here. Two phones on two different networks. But we don't have phone signal here (not even 3G, rely on WiFi callling) and didn't get the alert last time either so I'm not surprised.

Until the problems with lack of signal for rural areas is sorted I can't see a system like this working. Not everybody lives in a town or city.

BionicEar · 07/09/2025 17:55

DD didn’t get text - we were in town.

Both DS didn’t get an alert, nor did my phone which I had accidentally left at home with them.

DH got an alert as he was out on a field somewhere for a football game.

We are all with same phone company.

i switched both mine off after the last alert malarkey

I checked mine - they were all on.

Last time I got 3 alerts! 1 on the day and 2 the following day.

Guess I’ve been bumped off the list! 😂

ALunchbox · 07/09/2025 17:59

Mine was siren, written text then a woman's voice reading out the message. There was then the option to have it read out in Welsh. Is that what you heard maybe?

2nd time not getting one, so long everyone! Feel like I can hear the orchestra from the Titanic playing next to me. 😂

I'm still waiting for mine!

MargaretThursday · 08/09/2025 18:35

DD's and ds' went off at once, and mine two minutes later. The voice was fine, could understand it fine - basically it read out the text message, I assume for anyone who had visual disabilities.

Dh was extra blessed though. He was driving at the time and he got it twice. First on the dot of 3, then another eight minutes later. We assume it was different signal towers that sent them out at different times.

How do you back out of receiving them?
I don't want to be told there's a nuclear bomb on its way, thank you very much.

NellieJean · 08/09/2025 19:23

There’s a reason it’s called a test.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 08/09/2025 19:25

Having lived under the threat of a nuclear war. Very scary.

This alert just seemed like a crao Supermarket announcement.

If we were ever in danger of being struck by a Monster Tsunami. They could do an announcement like.

"Grab your money and run"

Just saying

JenXWarrior · 08/09/2025 21:04

I got a screeching alarm and an AI female bot giving information in English and Welsh.

Wooky073 · 08/09/2025 23:52

I was in a pub for a large family gathering with lots of other families all eating. It was unnerving with most of the phones sounding the siren and a horrible noise…. Quite loud when lots go off together. Definitely noticeable and gets attention. Quite eerie. But we did all say … if this was for real as Putin went nuclear …. What could we do anyway that would help ! Not a lot really

lilkitten · 09/09/2025 11:59

Mine was so quiet, the "siren" wasn't as loud as my ring tone. And I have my volumes set fairly loud on everything. I could hear talking, but it was faint. Some of my family is Ukrainian, their alerts are really loud.
