Couldn't understand a word.
What accent was that ?

Just an onscreen message. I'd forgotten and was listening to something and reading. Bit disappointed.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 07/09/2025 15:16

I didn’t get words either, just a siren and a message that I also turned off before I got to read it 😂.

My daughter got a speaking voice on her's. Sounded like a computerised British accent.

Thats what DH got ............on an older phone. Three phones in the room and thats the only one that got the alert.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 07/09/2025 15:17

I got the message via Bluetooth hearing aids, still doesn't explain the accent.
It should be R.P.

DC2 's phone played an alert sound. My phone was on DND and I had nothing which is a bit crackers as if it is a national alert DND hardly matters.

What on earth has her age got to do with it ?

Typicalwave · 07/09/2025 15:18

I got a siren sound, tried to open my phone. Whole thing stopped and no message or instructions in sight. What a farce.

Testerical · 07/09/2025 15:20

I got the SMS-style one, no talking, twice. Once at 3 and again at 3.10

Mumof2amazingasdkiddos · 07/09/2025 15:21

I don't suppose the people behind the alert are reading Mumsnet to get feed back but they should have it set so you can stop the sound but the message still displays, like many others I hit the button to stop the siren but then didn't get a chance to read the message, fine for a test but in a real emergency I'd be clueless as to what I was supposed to be preparing for! It should be one tap to stop the siren and then another tap to clear the message to give you a chance to read it given its clear from the few comments already posted I'm not the only one that instinctively reacted to stop the siren and completely missed reading the actual message.
No spoken words here OP so no comment on the accent, just siren and text at 15:01 and my DM (in another part of the country) didn't get the alert at all

GroovyChick87 · 07/09/2025 15:21

I restarted my phone and got it twice

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 07/09/2025 15:22

I got one (siren and text message) on my personal phone (giffgaff) but not on my work phone or ipad (EE). Both phones are iPhones.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 07/09/2025 15:22

Maybe we can opt in or out - could explain why some people didn't get it.

Mine read out the text message in a weird American accent (and failed abysmally on the Welsh bit at the end). I was also surprised how (relatively) quiet it was.

Elseaknows · 07/09/2025 15:23

I got a siren sound, so did DH, DD and DS.
DH was the only one who read the message. My DS started crying as he's autistic and thought it was because we have a blood moon? My DD hates loud noise and wanted it off as quick as possible and I didn't think to read it knowing it was a test alert.

whoboo · 07/09/2025 15:24

Actually that's odd, Got the zzzzzzzx and robot voice despite phone being on silent. What is even the point of it mind

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 07/09/2025 15:25

I got no sound but a huge message on screen with alert -everyone else in house got alarm sound.

CurlewKate · 07/09/2025 15:26

I was listening to a podcast and someone had just said “small boats” when it went off. I thought Farage had staged a coup.

UtterlyOtterly · 07/09/2025 15:27

I was in a busy shopping area. Very many sirens went off, not all at once but over two or three minutes. I got the text message but not a siren.

whoboo · 07/09/2025 15:27

Surely you would know, or it would not matter enough to send a crazy alert.

softlyfallsthesnow · 07/09/2025 15:27

Nothing for me. I'll be blissfully unaware as the missiles rain down on me I guess.

RockaLock · 07/09/2025 15:27

I didn’t read the message when it came through, I just instinctively tapped to stop the noise (came through phone and bluetooth hearing aids, so was extra annoying) and yes, the message disappeared off screen.

But, the message is still there to read if I swipe down (iPhone).

Daisy617 · 07/09/2025 15:28

4 phones in our house and none of them received any alert. No idea why that might be.

TruthOutWeighsLies · 07/09/2025 15:28

I got it. Alarm and also the messege spoken out.
It was just a computerised / AI voice

MemorableTrenchcoat · 07/09/2025 15:28

You can opt out. This has been well publicised.
