Couldn't understand a word.
What accent was that ?

Allthesnowallthetime · 07/09/2025 15:28

I didn't get it

Am I doomed if disaster strikes?!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 07/09/2025 15:28

I think I'd prefer to die quickly rather than live with radiation sickness.

Mine was very loud. I screengrabbed it this time - as last time I didn't get to read it before it disappeared.

TruthOutWeighsLies · 07/09/2025 15:29

For those of you where it didnt go off. Have you got the Emergency messege notification off?
It is something u can switch off
So that maybe ur answer

Monvelo · 07/09/2025 15:29

I think that if you opened the message you just saw the text (DH). And if you didn't open it then you got the voice (me).

You can opt out. This has been well publicised.

Seems like a lot of people on this thread were unaware of that, so how "well" is "well" ?

You can specify whether you want the alert message read out loud or not in your phone settings (same place you can opt out of receiving them altogether)

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2025 15:31

I've not opted out though. I was using my headphones but can't see why that should matter? It's a test but got it last time. Will be interesting to see the eventual data on how many people didn't get it. I've got quite an old phone - getting a few apps not working for me now. Maybe I need to upgrade. Obviously, the phone companies must be in collusion The Government to force us to buy new phones 👀

whoboo · 07/09/2025 15:31

I quite liked the drama haha

Rallentanda · 07/09/2025 15:33

I had my phone switched off, and when I switched it back on - well after the time it was sent out - the alarm sounded.

So if you have a hidden phone that you've switched off, take care when switching it back on, just in case.

People on here are forever posting about secret phones for domestic abuse victims, and how to disable the alerts.

Maybe we can opt in or out - could explain why some people didn't get it.

i switched both mine off after the last alert malarkey

MidnightPatrol · 07/09/2025 15:34

Mine was only a sound, but a moment of absolute panic as I couldn’t work out what it was, or where it was coming from!

CustardySergeant · 07/09/2025 15:34

Not everyone knew about it. I asked my adult daughter this morning (via Instagram) if she knew, and she didn't.

On the iPhone there is an option to receive emergency alerts or turn them off. Not sure why anyone would switch them off though.

OhMyGiddyAunt · 07/09/2025 15:36

I missed it again!

Last time it just didn't come through on my phone, this time I'm on holiday abroad.

Zanatdy · 07/09/2025 15:36

I didn’t have any words, just a siren and a message, at 15:00

YouveGotNoBloodyIdea · 07/09/2025 15:36

for those who turned the message off by accident - on an iPhone it's accessible just like any other on screen alert from the notification centre.

just gently pull your finger upward on the lock screen and all your alerts are there - including this one

SwedishEdith · 07/09/2025 15:37

I've found the message now in my emergency alerts history. I'm not sure if I had something switched off but have switched more things back on anyway.

YouveGotNoBloodyIdea · 07/09/2025 15:38

here it is

Emergency alert

It’s been on the news multiple times this week, in the press and seen some content creators / influencers post about it.

Mumof2amazingasdkiddos · 07/09/2025 15:21

I don't suppose the people behind the alert are reading Mumsnet to get feed back but they should have it set so you can stop the sound but the message still displays, like many others I hit the button to stop the siren but then didn't get a chance to read the message, fine for a test but in a real emergency I'd be clueless as to what I was supposed to be preparing for! It should be one tap to stop the siren and then another tap to clear the message to give you a chance to read it given its clear from the few comments already posted I'm not the only one that instinctively reacted to stop the siren and completely missed reading the actual message.
No spoken words here OP so no comment on the accent, just siren and text at 15:01 and my DM (in another part of the country) didn't get the alert at all

Really good point. I pressed ok to shut up the sound so the message disappeared and I have no idea what it said.

DH had an Irish male voice - computer generated.

PeonyBulb · 07/09/2025 15:43

Mine is on

it’s at the bottom of settings - notifications if you scroll right to the end

PeonyBulb · 07/09/2025 15:44

I’m annoyed I didn’t get a voice or siren just the written alert on my iPhone
