Nine arrests at the Far Right thug march in London. Police said there had been "significant aggression", with some officers being "attacked with projectiles".

The thugs kept trying to breakthrough police lines to attack the anti-fascist counter protest.

I still want to know what they did with the crosses.

Some mistake surely ? I thought the anti fascists were the thugs and the Yaxley Lennon contingent were brave noble knights devoted to wine making and donkey care ?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/09/2025 17:43

Being serious I'm surprised by how few arrests there have been so far. I suspect the police have been taking a 'softly softly' approach.

DuncinToffee · 13/09/2025 17:45

Sovereignity, foreign influence anyone

Musk has addressed the Far Right rally by video calling for a “change of government” in the UK.

I suspect that the "protesters" are strapping young men well used to an evening at Wetherspoons. Not a bunch of geriatric postbox topping vicars.

Was just about to post this:

Musk made a surprise appearance via videolink, calling for a "change of government".

"You can't - we don't have another four years, or whenever the next election is, it's too long," Musk told the crowd. "Something's got to be done. There's got to be a dissolution of Parliament and a new vote held."

Brave noble knights indeed

Police have been absolute hero’s through this. Imagine going to work everyday knowing a bunch of thugs are going to attack you over things they are pissed off about that aren’t even your doing.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/09/2025 18:02

I did find it very jarring seeing on the news some twat in fancy dress opening the march with the Lord's Prayer.
Perhaps I'm being unreasonable but I suspect the vast majority of people on that march are not church goers. They certainly aren't doing much in terms of expressing Christian values.

PandoraSocks · 13/09/2025 17:28

There is a Senedd by-election next month in Caerphilly. Reform is throwing everything at it, so might be an indication of how well they could do in the elections here next May.

I’m not sure. Finding one credible (ish) candidate and throwing everything at it is different from having to do it everywhere simultaneously. Or maybe I’m deluding myself.

I know very little about things Welsh. I'm English for crying out loud.

I find this a bit…dismissive. And an example of the reason Plaid is growing in popularity.

Disappointing, considering not so long ago they were arresting old people just for carrying palcards.

Efacsen · 13/09/2025 18:11

The protesters/thugs attacking the police looked pretty drenched - must be getting a bit chilly now - hope they don't get pneumonia

Dismissive ? In what way ?

It's a statement of fact. And it goes deep in the heart of the matter that I don't have the same stake in "Wales" as someone living in Wales. See also "Scotland" and indeed "Northern Ireland".

I don't get to vote in an English senate election.

If you want dismissive, then seek out the people who would deport Welsh people from Wales for speaking Welsh. I suspect they'd be far more dismissive of things Welsh.

(Whatever happened to Owain Glyndŵr ?)

I didn't get to vote in the local elections in England last May. I still felt I had a stake in the results and felt very sad at the rise of Reform.

England is my neighbour as is Scotland and NI. I would hope the rest of the UK might care what happens to Wales and vice versa.

Karistyleaftea · 13/09/2025 18:23

If there were around 110,000 at the rally , for scale that is about 20,000 more than could fit in to Wembley stadium.
There must be some very tired police officers out there today and we need to be so grateful for their service.
@cardibach I met Dame Rosemary Butler at the HoL , funnily enough we spoke about NF.
She was great.

It is but I also suspect it’s to do with trying to NOT inflame an already precarious situation.

Not saying I agree with low arrests but if it places the police in more danger it’s the right call.

eta the not!

Well that's a lot of women who were a lot safer for a few hours.

"And a hundred lonely housewives clutch Reform marches to their chests"

Hmmm, are Wales and England that alike ?

Maybe not London and Wales but regions like the Northeast, Northwest and parts of the Midlands - all those ex mining/industrial/textile areas - have more in common.

Wales does at least have a party more invested in it's own interests but it is left leaning and the media ain't go no time for that.

This @SerendipityJane
It feels like England doesn’t give a shit about Wales, while Wales has to give a shit about England.

You didn’t care enough to know anyth8ng about it, or to think you should have. I don’t blame you really, it’s the way the discourse has always gone.
