Remember when the UK media refused to show the Anti Brexit protest?

I searched the BBC that day, and it wasn't even tucked away in a "Of course we covered it " get out.

I won't cry when the BBC is taken over.

Had a lovely email from Keir Starmer today, our Prime Minister. I continue to support the Labour and Co-operative Party.

I think one ex-poster might be lurking on this thread too, funnily enough.

Remembering Sol Frankel this day. He stood up to fascism.

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2025 17:12

I have to confess I am rather depressed by how many have turned up. I notice no one is calling it a festival any more.

Fascinating.
But the speed of change over the last two hundred years seem particularly intense.

Bit of a rabbit hole here .... but a similar approach to military spending.

True. But 110,000 is quite a lot.

Over a million marched against Brexit and the Iraq war.

Over 200,000 turned up for poll tax demonstration March 31 1990. Many buses were sent away by the Met.

No, but it's in the region of 100, 000 more than the counter protestors.

PandoraSocks · 13/09/2025 17:28

There is a Senedd by-election next month in Caerphilly. Reform is throwing everything at it, so might be an indication of how well they could do in the elections here next May.

Yes, it would have been a lot more, but there was political pressure to make it seem much smaller and so easier to pin on a few larger louts (which were the social bogeymen of the day).

For this march, even if the police were bussing protesters in (and I really wouldn't put it past them) 100,000 isn't really that much. There were more people who couldn't get Oasis tickets for Manchester, for scale.

Same here
the last six months or so it has been a lot easier in getting a GP appointment & have had excellent response with a couple of fairly urgent out patient tests & Dh has had excellent very fast medical intervention in the last few months.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/09/2025 17:34

No there were 3 million people on the March. Somebody on another thread told me so it must be true.

Hmmm, are Wales and England that alike ?

Well depends which one, there were a few.

"Over a million" seemed the best way to not be distracted by pettifogging. ..

I am talking about Senedd elections here in Wales next year, Jane. Hence the Caerphilly by-election might be an indicator of the direction of travel.

Although the voting system will be different for next year's election.

DuncinToffee · 13/09/2025 17:40

Nine arrests at the Far Right thug march in London. Police said there had been "significant aggression", with some officers being "attacked with projectiles".

The thugs kept trying to breakthrough police lines to attack the anti-fascist counter protest.

I know very little about things Welsh. I'm English for crying out loud.
