Mandelson’s flaw is his greed. It’s cost him many jobs. He loves rich people and their fine living. He always crawls back into jobs because of his exceptional ability. Trump’s people love Mandelson; he’s charmed the hell out of them.

Why he didn’t cut ties with Epstein after his conviction is a mystery. Except perhaps greed, pure greed and his own ego that couldn’t be wrong about “his best pal”.

placemats · 11/09/2025 11:51

Apparently more information came to light regarding Mandy, since yesterday which is why he got the sack. Also George Osborne was shortlisted for the role.

Zonder · 11/09/2025 11:51

Dangerous time to be a politician.

bombastix · 11/09/2025 11:52

Also, I doubt very much that Mandelson won’t do well out of it. He’s the UK Trump Whisperer. Whatever consultancy fee he was charging prior to being ambassador he will be able to charge triple the rate. His political currency is unbelievable.

placemats · 11/09/2025 11:53

It is shocking @PandoraSocks

MaybeNotBob · 11/09/2025 11:53

I'm sure the morality monitors will be along in 3...2...1...

Zonder · 11/09/2025 11:53

I've just been reading up about Zack Polanski. It's making me consider joining the greens. I do feel quite homeless politically now - I still align more with labour than anyone else but ZP is making me rethink.

Anyone else feeling like that?

PandoraSocks · 11/09/2025 11:57

I have to say that I don't like Polanski. I am not sure why, but I feel there is something "off" about him.

But with you on feeling politically homeless.

PandoraSocks · 11/09/2025 11:58

“328 days blood on your hands.”

Does anyone know what this means?

bombastix · 11/09/2025 11:58

Is it because he believes hypnosis can increase your breast size?

Really, that is a con man levels of conduct. Hard pass

Who does?

Starmer has sacked Mandelson. Good work.
There’ll be loads going on about corruption on the left again I expect, failing to notice that Labour acts on these things instead of denying and defending. I’d prefer there not to be anything to act on, but we are where we are.

Good. It's a relief to see no days on end of but... but.... With the extra detail from the birthday book, Mandelson "knowing" how to handle Trump is no longer enough of a reason to have kept him on and, if anything, a good reason to pull him out and as far away as possible.

bombastix · 11/09/2025 12:01

Zonder · 11/09/2025 11:59

Who does?

The new leader of the Green Party… I should say he did apologize but what a grifter

That is part of it, yes. But there is something else about him that gives me, in MN parlance, the ick. I don't know what, though.

PickAChew · 11/09/2025 12:05

Shit. That's too close to home for comfort. Absolute scum, whoever did it.

PickAChew · 11/09/2025 12:12

Apart from the usual international horrors the only local event that made it into Wikipedia for the appropriate time period was a drug factory blowing up some houses in Newcastle and killing people. Maybe it's more personal than that.

Listened to him on Any Questions, says the right things, Wealth tax, better public services, net zero... etc etc but easy to do when no chance atm of power.

I'm liking the LD's more and more.

Yes. Just listened to R4? And the interviewer pointes out Starmer acted where as Tory’s didn’t even though some were found of breaking ministerial code.

the response? He had to because Badenoch was go good at PMqs!

I often wonder whether the double standards are ingrained or intentional.

placemats · 11/09/2025 12:42

Yes Badenoch will chalk that down as a win.

tobee · 11/09/2025 12:43

The Greens electing Zack Polanski show they are not a serious party. Or, I should, continuing to not be a serious party.

bombastix · 11/09/2025 12:48

Well I won’t be sanguine about Starmer’s decision on Mandelson. Mandelson had all perfect criteria for the job. He is extremely good with powerful people and he has masses of experience in international trade. But Epstein would have been known about at the point of his appointment. Sorry, there are some serious questions here on the vetting and what was known when he got the job.

I like a lot of what he’s saying, especially on the economy, but I’ve read that he thinks we should leave NATO - I can’t agree with or support that. We need to be less isolated, not more.

PandoraSocks · 11/09/2025 13:50

Nigel is getting the Rayner treatment. Odd though that the Beeb is investigating the man they give endless airtime to.

I thought the same Pandora
