I'd travel from Dublin if flying.

I have an Irish passport but the airports in Greece I have travelled to so far only allow all passengers off UK flights to go through the same queue. I have asked each time.

That’s ridiculous. What about all those returning from a trip to the U.K.
not to mention many people on a U.K. flight don’t have a U.K. passport.

Indeed. Those travelling from London back to Greece or other European countries.

I give thanks for my Irish Passport when travelling in Europe.

I give thanks to having disabled ds with me whenever we hit queues - there’s nearly always a different one for wheelchairs and it’s always empty!

That's interesting. Last time I went to Greece before DS became disabled, we came from the UK, but the border staff specifically asked if there were EU passport holders and directed us accordingly. In 2023 DS was a disabled passenger so we just dodged all the queues.

@BIossomtoes- I’ve debated trying a different accent but that would heap only more embarrassment on myself! To be fair it is mainly my own embarrassment about how the English are perceived, or maybe my own increasing embarrassment to be English, which is a shame - though oddly I continue to be proud of the Yorkshire (though Rotherham hotel lighters ruined it a bit). Just need to get independence I think then!
But everyone was lovely actually, even the taxi driver, though appalled at how we are self harming as a nation! We stayed mostly in Gozo and it is always a pleasure to see little litter and clean seas in both places. But actually last time speaking longer to people from Gozo, as getting ready for a wedding there, they don’t always like how Malta is and vice versa, though I just see a busier place and a similar but quieter place and not things that might annoy the other, which perhaps run deeper or perhaps not.
I think you go to Malta fairly regularly? Have a lovely holiday/time there 😃

Thank you. Yes, we go every year and always have a day on Gozo. It’s one of my happy places.

I use sticks to help me walk and each time the staff have noticed me and taken me to the front of the queue. I never ask for this but they do seem very good at noticing.

I do make a point of asking about going through the EU channel because of my Irish passport but have been told no on each occasion.

On the current trip again I was identified by airport staff and brought to the front. But I was horrified to hear other passengers moaning at me for this. One woman at the very front refused to let me go before her so I made a point of seeking her out in the baggage collection area and told her what I thought of her. I even saw some passengers refuse to make way for a lady in a wheelchair.

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2025 19:50

Malta has always had good ties with Britain and I know many people of my dads generation (including my dad) who spent years living their as children due to parents working for the MoD.

DS is also noticing a hardening of attitudes. It's not surprising, given the narratives put out by the right (and by our current government too).

That was me. My dad was in the RAF and we lived there 1959-61. It feels like home to me.

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2025 20:25

That was about the same time my dad was there!!!!

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2025 20:28

And yes to hardening of attitudes.

However the other week we went to a theme park. You have to go through barriers and scanners and bag checks and ds was called (with me and his friends) around an almost empty queue.

An older man started to complain that he didn’t need to “queue jump” as he was already sitting down.

I was extremely impressed with the teen lad (about 14-16£ who basically told him to stop being an ignorant twat or perhaps use his voice to explain how da was going to get through a turnstile in a wheelchair.

I didn’t know whether to be horrified at the lad being rude or piss myself laughing 🤣

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2025 20:29

Btw this lad wasn’t one that was with us. He was a total stranger but my absolute hero at that moment in time!

Well done that lad.

Some people are just dickheads. One guy in the queue I was led past made some comment about getting his sticks out if it was going to help him jump the queue. I turned back and asked him if he actually needed sticks to walk to which he replied no, so I told him to consider himself lucky.

A trove of leaked data from Boris Johnson’s private office reveals how the former prime minister has been profiting from contacts and influence he gained in office in a possible breach of ethics and lobbying rules.

The Boris Files contain emails, letters, invoices, speeches and business contracts. They shine a spotlight on the inner workings of a publicly subsidised company Johnson established after leaving Downing Street in September 2022.

@itsgettingweird and @LittleBowSheep that is really worrying. I am sorry that happened to you both.

It was only a piece of cake and he has funny hair

It’s really not ok that I wasn’t surprised to read this.

I really hope he doesn’t get away with it.

PickAChew · 08/09/2025 21:23

That overprivileged oik has his fingers stuck in even more places than other parts of his anatomy. He will probably continue to get away with it, too.

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2025 21:47

Carrie having a baby shower, weren't there rumours about that?

OP posts:
MsJinks · 08/09/2025 21:51

It’s how he works isn’t it - brought up in these ways probably and barely sees it as wrong - but why it’s ok for the ‘posh’ and cheating for the ‘poor’ I just don’t understand in 2025.
Nor do I understand why such a person was thought responsible enough to run first London and then the country. I wouldn’t let him run Pepa Pig World (and she runs a close race with Johnson on my list of ‘things I don’t like’ tbh!)

Karistyleaftea · 08/09/2025 22:06

He does all that and Angela Rayner makes a mistake due to being given the wrong advice and resigns.
I know which party will keep my vote .
I appreciate that the optics of staying would have hurt the party but I do hope she will come back .

BIossomtoes · 08/09/2025 22:07

I wasn’t remotely surprised when I read that. It’s kind of what we expect, isn’t it?

placemats · 08/09/2025 22:50

When you're pissed and the staff is pissed off with you, there'll always be data breaches and leaks.

I'm surprised the money was so pitiful. But then.
