We are still not allowed to mention the B wordWink

People don't want to hear about the Dublin agreement because we didn't return that many people when still in the EU...

It is still astounding that the UK left without any agreements in place.

It’s not that astounding given that Johnson was In charge and delegated it all to Frost who is one of the most bigoted people (in the real sense of the word) ever to hold public office. The real wonder is that it’s not more of a fuck up.

Very true, the Johnson-Frost factor should not be underestimated.

Get Brexit Done - bugger the detail!

LittleBowSheep · 08/09/2025 09:59

I'm currently in Greece, flew into a small mainland airport, not very busy at all. Two flights from UK arrived within 15mins of each other and it was utter chaos. The security checks consists of just 2 desks and once the small room is full, the queue ends up congregating outside (in 34 degree heat).

A short time later a flight arrives from Paris and of course all the passengers are ushered through the EU/Schengen queue. Well the tuts and shouts of disgust and anger soon started. My DH said in a very loud voice 'that's Brexit for you' to which many passengers either looked pissed off or confused.

Some people really don't get it. Brexiteers voted for this shit but still won't accept any responsibility for it. God help us when the Exit/Entry system kicks in.

BestIsWest · 08/09/2025 10:01

Had the same in Schipol @LittleBowSheep. DH was quite vocal about Brexit too.

In other news: some twat has painted wonky flags on our bus station.

"He and his ministers knew what they were doing, and what the consequences would be. They consciously opted to ramp up net migration for economic reasons."

NEC to meet this afternoon with an expected deadline for nominations by Friday.

countrygirl99 · 08/09/2025 10:25

Someone at Burghley was complaining there are hardly any Europeans coming over to compete now. There was silence when I pointed out it's much harder and more expensive for them since Brexit. I just keep up with dripping it in.

placemats · 08/09/2025 10:32

It's like those who insist we're not stupid for voting Leave, we knew exactly what we were doing - erm okay!

BIossomtoes · 08/09/2025 10:49

We had the opposite experience in Pisa in March. The non EU queue to leave Italy was virtually non existent. There were lots of quite loud comments about finally discovering a benefit of Brexit.

We were similar when leaving Frankfurt but I think that is more German efficiency.

SerendipityJane · 08/09/2025 11:07

Brexit is now a done deal. Thank God. Even Farage has tried putting a stake through it's heart. It could be a weakness for Reform if it becomes apparent that closer EU ties are leading to some increased prosperity. Because Reforms position on Brexit seems mysteriously vague.

You an have hours of endless fun winding up people who voted leave by pointing out they got the Brexit they wanted. Because it's too easy to remind them that they knew what they were voting for.

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2025 11:18

Quite apart from Tice going out to defend Farage's shady house purhcase and making things ten times worse, for the guy who says he will be the next UK Chancellor of the Exchequer to end on: "I'm not a tax expert - you're asking the wrong guy," is objectively hilarious. ~AA

NEW: An Oxford report warns that misleading media coverage is shaping public debate on immigration and human rights.

The study finds the ECHR is frequently misreported in deportation cases, fueling misconceptions that erode trust in the legal system.

That first sentence is exactly what I was about to type 😂

MsJinks · 08/09/2025 13:19

Just come home from Malta airport and they evened the queues out by having more non EU lines - caught up from 2 years ago when EU lines were so much shorter (and adding to my annoyance with the vote!).
However, our taxi driver kept laughing that we had best EU deal then left - he kept asking why, though I could only say I didn’t vote leave. He also commented on that ‘awful thin guy who might be an MP now’ that basically caused it and left U.K. in trouble.
Considering passing myself off as a different nationality in future tbh.

placemats · 08/09/2025 13:29

I see that Net Zero is now being described as Net Stupid. So I'm calling them thick as dried out cow pats. No apologies.

BestIsWest · 08/09/2025 13:30

It wasn’t too bad coming home from Schipol, Probably about 15 minutes but the passport check queue on arrival was horrendous. Boiling hot, mid evening and DH had hurt his knee so couldn’t really walk very well which didn’t help.

placemats · 08/09/2025 13:31

I give thanks for my Irish Passport when travelling in Europe.

We arrive there tomorrow. I’ll suggest himself thickens his Irish accent!

I have an Irish passport but the airports in Greece I have travelled to so far only allow all passengers off UK flights to go through the same queue. I have asked each time.
