A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Morning all. I can't sleep so gave up trying half an hour ago.

Hope so much @RunningKatie and @mumofoneAloneandwell 's Dcs are better soon and they don't spread their love germs.

Thanks for suggestions about trip locations. ❤I did make the suggestion to DH and he said he was willing to consider it. This means... precisely nothing. 😆

I'll raise it again in a few days. He's very much a home-body. (Auto-carrot originally corrected that to 'honed-body'. )

Not much happening here. Thankfully today is a fairly quiet day.

Hope all are well. Thanks

Maybe that can be an inside joke on our thread? 🙂🥕

WinterFrogs · 20/09/2025 07:25

You lot make me smile!
Good morning 😊 I hope everyone who who is down with the germs is feeling better. First day in weeks that I didn't need to set alarm so of course I woke at 5.30am. But it means I could watch dawn break, which was lovely.
Did you get to catch up on sleep eventually @FourSeasonsLobelia? I have found audio books to be the thing when I can't sleep.

I am impressed with our @autumnangel doing the trip to London and a concert. I hope it was great! I did a concert alone for the first time last year and loved it. Need headphones for next time though as it was a little too loud. I know they are supposed to be loud but my poor ears don't like it for too long. I am going to see Fiddler on the Roof soon and really looking forward to that.

That bag looks geat @SpiritOfEdna

@Mumtobabyhavoc I love the picture wall collage idea for birthdays.

@petalpower I hope the trip to see your elderly family went well. It does sound very complex. My mother is desperate for a trip back to her house to sort out some papers and photos. That's actually quite ambitious but I will make it happen. First I must get into her garden as the weeds have suddenly shot waist high since it rained, and she'll be horrified. It all starts to feel like quite a lot, doesn't it? She really isn't capable of going home but is deemed to have mental capacity, and is adamant that she will get more mobile and it's just a matter of time. So we still haven't sold the house. We do need to but siblings and I are still a little bit terrified of her and she hasn't run out of savings yet so we're kicking the can down the road.

The coats are still piled up in the hall, and now there is also a basket full of washing that came off the line yesterday on the sofa, plus a bag containing my laptop and some papers.

@mumofoneAloneandwell I love Hey Duggee - and fortunately littlest does as well. It is a massive improvement on her last year's love of Blippi. He's enough to drive anyone to drink! I do love a Duggee Hug! Do you have a favourite Rookie character? I think mine has to be Wade. He's so calm and stoic, but being the guy in charge he always has his head in his hands about something 😆 And the double act that is Nyla and Angela. Brilliant! Did you watch 9-1-1? Sounding like a telly addict now, but they are great escapism!

Who mentioned the Thursday Murder Club? Oh it was you @autumnangel Did you enjoy it? I have watched it twice - it was so soothing when I was feeling all stressed last week ❤️

Big waves to you all and hope it's a great weekend for everyone 👋

petalpower · 20/09/2025 13:25

Yesterday was an epic Petalerrands day where I got quite a few jobs done in town around my hairdresser visit (hurrah, no more grey roots!) and came back via the butchers, recycling point and pharmacy. We had a successful visit thank you @WinterFrogs and managed to catch up with all the oldies and various members of both sides of the family who are all within a fairly close radius. Despite only being away for three days and DS and DD being here at home little jobs just build up so quickly. My extras today have been to pay subs for a group I belong to and pick the tomatoes that ripened whilst we were away. If the weather holds I may finish harvesting the butternut squash and tidy up that area of the vegetable garden. There’s also a small but annoying mark (hopefully not stain) that has appeared on the brand new carpet so I may give that a bit of attention.
Have a great weekend everyone!

autumnangel · 20/09/2025 13:55

@mumofoneAloneandwell - I went to see Lewis Capaldi ❤it was amazing.
@WinterFrogs - Yes it was me who watched The Thursday Murder Club. I absolutely love films with older actors as I find them more wholesome. Recently I've watched 'Finding Your Feet' 'Edie' and 'The Last Bus Home' all of which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I've not had a productive morning at all as I've been on my online support group which was really good but I'm feeling like I need to get moving and achieve something today. I have a few niggling things that I keep putting off and I'm not really sure why. However, today is the day I am going to do them. If I write them here then I'll make it my mission to come back later and report success:

  • Collect prescription
  • Collect car from PIL's as I was there for dinner last night and ended up having a drink so had to leave it there.
  • Look for DH's V5
  • Put air in DH's car tyre
  • Sort parcel - Randomly a few months ago (long before we had any idea what was in front of us) DH said if he was to die before me he wanted me to have some of his ashes put into a ring so I could take him everywhere with me 😢I have now found the most beautiful ring and I can now make his wish come true. So today I need to send the ashes away today.
  • Book hotel for my next adventure next week
  • Email travel insurance
  • Send texts - I have been putting this off and now have made one interaction potentially awkward as I feel I have left it too long. MUST. DO. THIS. TODAY!
  • General tidy of the house as I would be mortified if anyone popped by
  • Phone British Gas re homecover

I finished up work yesterday for 2 weeks annual leave so hopefully I'll be around a bit more

WinterFrogs · 20/09/2025 14:17

And you think you're not an inspiration @petalpower! It sounds like you've done loads 🌟
@autumnangel I love all those films too! You might also like Love Sarah and Fisherman's Friends. Edited to add I haven't seen Edie but I see it has Sheila Hancock in it so I'll look it out.

I've been out and about this morning. Back in the same place as this morning, coffee in hand, looking at the coats and the clean washing....

Must do that, and send a handful of emails that I would like to have done yesterday.

autumnangel · 20/09/2025 14:26

I should say I have got a necklace with some of DHs ashes and a wee pocket urn so he did come to London and saw Lewis with me!
Also…texts have been sent 🥳 not sure why I always make these into bigger things than they need to be.
@WinterFrogs - oh Love Sarah is a good one too. I’ve not heard of Fisherman’s Friend so I’ll look into that thanks!

WinterFrogs · 20/09/2025 14:41

That pocket urn is lovely. I'm glad he's going to places with you. It's a lovely idea.
Well done on the texts! You have inspired me to get on and sort out my emails.

My touch typing course has gone out the window and I'm back typing with two fingers, and I also want to practise my rusty French again so while DH is at football I'm going to put things away then create a plan of action.

One thing I have achieved this week is to order some new work clothes. I'm a very simple dresser, and I've found some styles that are smart and vaguely flattering, so I have repeated an order just in different colours.

RunningKatie · 20/09/2025 18:17

Soggy Saturday greetings to all.
I need to watch Thursday Murder Club too, we're currently watching Wednesday - 3 out of 6 episodes done.
Dc1 is still lurgified but improving.
Today I've ordered DC2 a winter coat, dropped off some books at a book swap library and sorted washing.
Tomorrow I need to food shop and sort us all for the week ahead.

petalpower · 21/09/2025 08:53

That’s lovely that you’re able to take your late husband with you @autumnangel.
We watched Thursday Murder Club and really enjoyed it but I gather it’s a bit different in parts to the book - I haven’t read the books but DH has.
Managed to get the squash harvested yesterday but the rain came whilst I was tidying the veg garden so there’s more weeding to do. This morning I have a lady coming from a local specialist craft group to pick up a piece of equipment that had been my mum’s. We are donating it but whoever takes it in the group makes a donation to a local hospice which I’m really pleased about. I just want someone to use and love it in the same way my mum did. DH has said we need to move some things up into the roof of our garage for storage (our house is very old so we don’t put things in the loft of the house) and we will hopefully do that this morning. Random detritus has started to build up! I’m also going to try to get all the photos that I’ve had printed into an album. I’m normally quite good about doing this but it’s a job I haven’t done for a bit and I realised that no photos had been printed since new year so I sent a load to Photobox last week.
Have a lovely day everyone!

Peridot1 · 21/09/2025 11:48

Hello all!

I am back from a lovely week in Greece. Read nine and a half books. Went for a walk every morning. Had lots of lovely food. Well not lots as am on Mounjaro but what I had was lovely. Saw some of the lovely staff at the hotel who I have known for years. Had sundowner drinks in my favourite spot in the world to watch the sunset every evening.

I won’t tag everyone as will be here all day but have read everyone’s posts.

Am still on Greek time so two hours ahead so have been awake since 5.30. Had first load of laundry in at 6.10. Three loads are done and hanging up to dry.

The decorator is starting painting our kitchen/dining and sitting areas tomorrow so I’m packing stuff away., DH doesn’t share my idea of when it needs doing which is irritating me. He was supposed to start doing a bit while I was away but didn’t. So I have boxes and bubble wrap looking at me. I’ve started tidying the utility room as we will use it as a mini kitchen. I’ve vacuumed and washed the floor in there so just waiting for it to dry.

Also while I was away our garden room/log cabin was installed and we need to get it painted and sealed this week - thankfully it looks dry here all week so while the decorator is painting inside we will be outside doing that. Have just picked the colour for that so DH can order it.

Have a good Sunday all. Will get back into the swing of the thread this week.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/09/2025 21:57

Peridot, Greece is one of my favourite places. 😍
Petal, I love the donation idea, too!🥰

Completed today:
stripped bed, washed sheets
washed Havoc's new school clothes and had Havoc try on new shoes for first day of school
washed another load of laundry
vacuumed
wiped top of fridge and tidied
wiped interior of fridge and two door shelves then tidied and tossed
vacuumed top of a kitchen cupboard cabinet that doesn't go all the way to ceiling so does nothing but collect dust as I seethed over non -sensical and non-functional stupid stupid designs
Looked for sewing needles unsuccessfully
tidied dc dresser
threw away some dc tat (I think you say), ie balloons, paper lanterns, pinwheels, birthday decos
put an item in Havoc's memory box
tidied hat and glove bin

just about to mix up dough for pizza

It's now 2pm. Time for some fun stuff. Will take dc out shortly. Hope everyone's Sunday was relaxing.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 22/09/2025 07:21

Hi all- waving hi but am in the middle of pre-school frenzy. back later. Thanks

mumofoneAloneandwell · 22/09/2025 10:35

Hi everyone

Same as four seasons, just popping on to say hello and will catch up with the thread tonight or tomorrow after drop off

Although @Mumtobabyhavoc that looks delish 😋

Today's task is to deep clean armchairs and put them on eBay!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 22/09/2025 11:32

Hiya all, it's been a rough week and mostly bedbound, but trying to get back info some kind of normality today. I'm finally out of bed, though still really struggling with the stairs - need several minutes to recover afterwards. At least brain fog is mostly gone!

I've emptied overflowing bins in most rooms, and sent a message chasing the builder, which I'd been putting off for weeks. Small and sedate jobs are the best I can do at the moment!

Happy Monday

autumnangel · 22/09/2025 14:04

@SingleThreadJoiner2 - sorry to hear you are feeling unwell, please take it easy!
@Mumtobabyhavoc - that look lovely!

Yesterday I went on a really long walk with DB and my back is really paying for it today so it's slow and steady here too. I'm off work on annual leave for two weeks and this house is getting sorted! I have invited DB and SIL for dinner on Wednesday so that's kind of given me a bit of momentum.
This morning I have spent over an hour sorting out boiler cover for the house and the flat and I've finally booked a hotel for next week's holiday after much deliberation about where I was actually going to go.
The to do list is long and even though I've been looking at it all morning nothing is magically getting done so I guess it's up to me to get started 🙄I shall return later and aim to have a few things ticked off!

SpiritOfEdna · 22/09/2025 14:34

Morning. Busy weekend here - went for a sauna and a swim in the docks (bbbbrrrr) and looked at a big cruise liner currently in dock; so town was surprisingly busy for an early Sunday.
Today:

  • am on SpiritDoggo duty this week so need to get her out on a walk sometime today.
  • I've got rid of all the dead foliage on the plants and watered them and I need to clean the sill they live on. My poor, poor fern looks very bare
  • done a load of washing already; just need to get it dry and get another one going
  • book another session at the sauna - might wait till pay day to do that (2 days hurrah)
  • empty the dishwasher and sort out my dishes from the weekend
  • I need a work to do list as I am faffing around
  • big old leather armchair looks in need of a clean and shine - will do that later
  • take down the curtains in living room and wash.
  • try and take down the curtain pole - it's custom made for the bay window so its quite heavy but I need to fix the central fixing (again) - it looks loose and it's driving me mad every time I look at it
Must go, some final second interviews for my boss today, so hopefully no more interviews for me 😄, have a good day, SoE

Taa daaaa!

The pizza is:
pesto
mushrooms
orange bell pepper
asparagus
spinach
feta
Swiss and Cheddar

It was 😛😛😛😛

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/09/2025 08:12

Morning all 💓🍂

Starting mine and dd's day at autoglass repair autoglass replace 🙃, got a chip in my windscreen yesterday on the way to pick up dd from school

Hopefully they can fix it 🙏

Managed to partially deep clean the armchairs yesterday, so need to go over them again and then take photos for Ebay

I'm unwell. Me and dd had the sniffles over the weekend but last night was horrible, just sneezing and coughing. Did rest quite well and hopefully will head straight back home after eventually dropping dd off for a nap

Dd seems well enough for school and is very happy with Greggs for breakfast so hoping she will be okay too

autumnangel · 23/09/2025 08:18

@mumofoneAloneandwell - hopefully plenty of rest will make all the difference.

Ok so yesterday wasn't quite as productive as planned. I managed to hoover the car, get a washing out on the line and sort the 3 loads of clean washing I had done last week. I stayed home all day yesterday and that isn't good for my brain at all. I have some plans to get out the house later today so I probably won't get much done but at least my head will feel a bit better!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/09/2025 08:26

Me too, hey duggee is epic, @WinterFrogs - never watched blippi thankfully 😭. I love the Rookie and agree that the captain is lovely. Although not as amazing as Captain Holt of Brooklyn 99, may he rip. I loved him 🥺

Welcome back @Peridot1 🥰 - what colour scheme are you going for?

@SpiritOfEdna @Mumtobabyhavoc youve got so much done, I need to up my game once this cold passes

@RunningKatie glad to hear dc1 is improving re the cold - its the back to school season, its the only thing I dislike about autumn/winter

@autumnangel thank you 🥺 - also I love Lewis capaldi! I just like his personality 😌. I love your necklace idea and think its a great way to keep dh with you ❤️

Hi to everyone I haven't mentioned, apologies, I am still going through xx

Peridot1 · 23/09/2025 09:21

Hi all.

That pizza looks yummy @Mumtobabyhavoc.

@mumofoneAloneandwell - sorry about windscreen - hope it gets fixed. And that you feel better. Colour scheme is pretty neutral. We are trying to decide one particular wall though - we had some panelling added to it and it has a very large painting in vivid blues and greens on it too so trying to decide whether to be bold and paint that wall dark blue which will match the island unit in the kitchen or keep it neutral. If we go dark blue we will need to change the sofas as they are dark blue too currently. Decisions decisions!

Hope you are in the mend @SingleThreadJoiner2. Sounds like a nasty dose. I have just booked my flu jab - hoping to avoid the flu that went around Australia this last winter. A couple of friends got it and were really poorly.

Need to start back on the Sambucol too for immunity. I find it helps. DH had flu last year and I didn’t get it and I think it was the fact I swig Sambucol from the bottle every day! And yes that is Sambucol not Sambuca!

Yesterday was mainly spent clearing for the decorator, sorting laundry and changing DS’s bed and doing some cleaning in his room before he gets back from holiday. And doing some sorting in my room.

Just been rudely interrupted by our alarm going off as the decorator as managed to cut the wire above the bifold doors…… no idea now that’s going to be fixed as it’s buried in the wall…..

Jobs today:

  • laundry
  • walk
  • dishwasher - done
  • some more sorting in my room
  • pick lights for garden room which was built while I was away
  • start sealing and painting said garden room

Sorry I didn’t tag everyone! Have a great day all.
