A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Hello everyone, I've been filling my days with lots of things out of the house so I've not really had anything to update. I'm home for a couple of hours this afternoon before going to DB's for dinner. I have a list for this afternoon with lots on it. I shall report back soon and hopefully will be able to say I've ticked a couple of things off.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 15/09/2025 08:02

Hope your Sunday evening went well @autumnangel

I'm feeling smug because DH has done the school run so I have already made all the beds, emptied the bins and cleaned the kitchen.

Hope everyone has a great day.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 15/09/2025 09:04

Hi all

Expecting a tough week this week, trying to sort out a local school place for dd. Its going nowhere and I am stressed.

Hope youre all okay. Glad to see you here @WinterFrogs

Still havent focused enough to catch up on everyone's news 🙈 - i have the shortest attention span

Today its clean the flat, again
Vacuum
Lay down for a bit before leaving for pick up
Get dd home, fed and then off to her rainbows group
Try to organise my head

Have a good day everyone. Much love ❤️

SpiritOfEdna · 15/09/2025 13:03

@mumofoneAloneandwell - good luck!
Today

  • finished the little bag I was making. It turned out OK and I have tidied up all the scraps after myself.
  • managed to top up the brake fluid in the car - not without a minor spillage annoyingly. Actually proud of myself for doing that (the doing not the spilling!) Now have to drive the car to see whether I have resolved the alarm
  • still need to book in car for MOT
Busy day at work, so tiny list today so that is all I have time for I may return with more tasks. Proper autumn weather here - it's a bit chilly here, bbbrrr, have a good one, SoE

Afternoon

I 'managed' to miss a 04:30 alarm to attend an online training course 😄I switched the alarm off (allegedly) turned over and went straight back to sleep.
Today:

  • I have an income protection/critical illness policy from when I was contracting and am debating cancelling as a) no longer contracting and b) have an income protection through my job. Need to find a phone number to speak to someone.
  • find credit card - it will be in a pocket somewhere
  • tidy up my desk
  • 6 working days till payday 😄
  • print out larger pattern for another bag
  • Food is in short supply so need to do a shop, but it's too cold to go out 😄
  • SpiritDoggo needs a walk in a bit
  • Windowman needs paying
Hope everyone's well, have a good one, SoE

Hello everyone

Thinking of you and your school battles
{mention:mumofoneAloneandwell}@mumofoneAloneandwell. I hope this week sees you triumphant 💪

I was too cocky in my last post, Sunday covid hit me hard and I spent most of it in bed feeling very sorry for myself. Last time I had covid I was extremely unwell for over two weeks and I am so terrified of it happening again so I am trying to be kind to myself while also getting on with work.
Luckily H is negative as of today so hopefully mine will be equally brief.

Have managed some small but useful tasks such as sorting D's new activity uniform and paying an invoice and cooking two decent dinners in a row so that makes me feel better about things.

Sadly the covid means that for the second week in a row we have to skip the cleaners coming so we need to get to woke ourselves 😅

WinterFrogs · 16/09/2025 19:09

Hello! Sorry about the lurgie @SingleThreadJoiner2 I hope you feel better soon!

Good luck with the school search @mumofoneAloneandwell and solidarity with getting your head together.

Go you with your smug morning yesterday @FourSeasonsLobelia Long may it last 😊

Hugs to you @autumnangel ❤️

I hope you are having a great holiday @Peridot1

Hello @petalpower 👋 Was it 'petal projects'? I do find you inspiring!

I'm feeling better. Currently watching The Rookie reruns. Rubbish but fun! I did finally get my paperwork sorted out and that really helped. And i made an apple and blackberry crumble from fruit in my garden that is my smug for today.

Have a lovely evening 😘

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 16/09/2025 20:39

@WinterFrogs ,send some of that crumble over our way? Sounds delicious 😀

petalpower · 17/09/2025 13:53

I’ve looked back and it’s Petalerrands @WinterFrogs ! I’m really not inspiring IRL!
We’re back visiting dad, stepmother and PIL for a few days so no projecteering going on at the moment but I did manage to get a lot done on my to-do list last week after getting back from holiday. Today is the double care home visit day (dad this morning and stepmother this afternoon) and staying with elderly PIL.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 17/09/2025 14:28

Hi all.

Hope the visit goes well @petalpower

Not much happening here. I am putting off tidying the DCs rooms by watching Law and Order. I know I ought to make them do it, but our cleaner comes tomorrow and she needs to be able to get a vacuum in at some point.

Ramdon question (It's a two-parter)- does anyone have an idea where we could go for a few days over the Christmas holidays? Not too expensive and UK-based. Question part 2 - does anyone have any idea how I can persuade DH that going away for a few days is a Good Idea because he hates being away from our home for Christmas?

I'm tired of the same old same old. (I'll never persuade DH this is a good idea, but I'm willing to give it a Good Old College Try'. (Is that the phrase?)

FourSeasonsLobelia · 17/09/2025 14:30

PS- we are Down South so it's usually grey and wet. I might be able to persuade him somewhere cold and snowy. We adore Northumberland but sadly since older family members have passed have no real excuse to go there.

autumnangel · 17/09/2025 15:08

Hello all, I'm just back from a very short trip to London. I did come home early but feeling proud of myself for not only flying down and spending the night in a hotel by myself but also going to a massive concert alone. I'm exhausted so currently on the couch eating pizza and watching The Thursday Murder Club.
No projects (daily or otherwise) have been attempted recently. I really do need to look out DH's V5 so we can sell his car soon. I think I'll make that the job of the day.
Hugs to you all ❤

mumofoneAloneandwell · 17/09/2025 16:11

Hey everyone

Thank you everyone for your well wishes re the suitable school ❤️. On the way back home today, dd wasnt her usual self. She seemed upset and cried when we got home.

I was bursting for the loo so couldn't investigate it, and now shes got her french fries she seems normal again

Something in my gut tells me shes not having a good time at her school, and they're not telling me, and she cant as she is non verbal 🥺, which makes this move even more important 😪

Still getting nowhere but trying to reach out to places.

Bleughhhh

Today i managed to finally list some stuff on eBay thats just cluttering up dd's bedroom (now her playroom as she is in with me for the winter)

A lovely lady bought the pet buggy i bought for dcat (it was too tall for me) - she said she is rescuing a dog who was found in a home of 100 dogs!! Poor thing

Hope youre all well

@SingleThreadJoiner2 sorry to hear you've got covid. Wishing you well with it, hopefully as you've had your vaccines it shouldn't be too harsh on you xx

@FourSeasonsLobelia maybe Scottish Highlands for cosy vibes and hopefully snow? I used to be like dh re staying home for xmas but sometimes its good just to make a change

@autumnangel what was the concert you went to? So glad it went well - pizza and tv sounds perfect

@SpiritOfEdna you made a bag?! Please can we see?

@WinterFrogs glad you're feeling better - I love the Rookie - waiting for all of the latest season to drop on now tv before catching up - crumble sounds 🤤

@petalpower hope the care home visits go well for you all ❤️

Hey @Aria999 , @Mumtobabyhavoc and anyone else i have missed. Hope youre all well ❤️❤️

In bed with dd already, on the electric blanket for cosy vibes, tv and drawing faces on balloons for dd xx

mumofoneAloneandwell · 17/09/2025 16:12

God, sorry for the long post 😅 xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/09/2025 18:11

@FourSeasonsLobelia I love the idea of going away at Christmas. Not, all the time, but I've done it twice and loved it.
I'd go to London for decos, cozy hotel, soak up the vibe. I also like a seaside cabin idea, but that would entail more work for groceries and cooking. But, wouldn't it be fun to have a simple supper, good wine, a book, dessert and listen to waves crash on the beach with a fire in the fireplace or wood stove?
@autumnangel so happy to hear you're having some victories. 🩷
@mumofoneAloneandwell I love the idea of you and dd snuggling up with the heated blanket. My two share with me and I'm savouring it while I can.

It's definitely fall here now even though it reached 27c yesterday. It gets down to about 12c at night.
Haven't been doing much besides maintaining, but I did manage one niggling thing. For the dc's birthdays I make a picture wall with 81/2x11 sheets of coloured card stock and put pics from each month on them to show their year. I always mean to put them into a binder when done, but have a box of them now. 😵‍💫
Well. Yesterday, I managed to put each into a protective sheet and into a binder for baby's 1/2 birthday and 1st birthday. So, it was a start! I also put all the craft items and the binder into one box. 😄 (it only took me about 40 mins, too!)

Aria999 · 17/09/2025 18:52

I am right there with you on the DC room issue @FourSeasonsLobelia! My stepdad often goes to Kendal in the Lake District over Christmas, log fires, nice food and pretty scenery.

if you would consider further afield the four winds resort in st Lucia was a wonderful Christmas break many years ago, I have a feeling it was adults only though.

Aria999 · 17/09/2025 18:53

Hello @mumofoneAloneandwell , poor DD! I hope you get her settled somewhere nice.

WinterFrogs · 18/09/2025 07:25

I'm dreaming of a lovely Christmas break now. Thanks, @FourSeasonsLobelia 😎

DH and I went to a lovely air bnb recently Up North ( also being from Down South) It was glorious and I'd go back there for Christmas in a heartbeat. The views were spectacular and there was a verandah to look at them from, but also french doors for if it was cold and wet. No fireplace so no log fires, but I can really imagine cosying up there with food and books, and letting Christmas pass us by. Bah humbug and all!

T'internet has taught me belatedly that children need to be taught to tidy rooms. Flylady quite rightly pointed out that if parents are chaotic and incapable of keeping house, why would telling the kids to go tidy their rooms have any effect. They don't know how to do it either. Even now with kids in their 30s, we swap tips. So I was that mother who'd do a crisis clean in despair. All day to do one room. I look back in horror. We all have our own homes now, and we've all finally figured it out. More or less.

I love the sitting with DD in bed after school and drawing faces on balloons. That must be so soothing and a great way to calm DD @mumofoneAloneandwell

I remember kids piling into bed with me in the mornings. Loved it.

The crumble went down very well, so sadly there's none left for any of you! Sorry! Just saved enough for littlest, who didn't really appreciate it until I drowned it in custard.

I hope you all have a good day 😊

FourSeasonsLobelia · 18/09/2025 07:29

Thanks for Christmas suggestions. Smile

I am going to suggest that instead of Christmas presents (with sorrowful reflections about 'clutter' and 'space') that i suggest we go away as a family between Christmas and the New Year. My birthday falls around then also and I am now of an age where there is nothing I really 'want'.

Hope everyone is well. Love to all. xxx

WinterFrogs · 18/09/2025 07:53

Ooh I do love a sorrowful reflection about clutter @FourSeasonsLobelia I tend to become a bit militant when the anti clutter bug gets hold of me. Good luck!
I am sorrowfully looking at an enormous pile of coats on the pegs in the hall. That sounds grand - the 'hall' is in fact approx 2' square.
I'm visualising myself washing half of them and taking them to the local coat bank. We still have coats here that nobody will admit to owning but because they aren't mine I feel bad about getting rid.

SpiritOfEdna · 18/09/2025 13:35

@mumofoneAloneandwell here you go - a little Japanese knot bag. All the talk of Christmas getaways has got me thinking…
Today

  • brake guy is coming this afternoon to do remote diagnostics on car.
  • gym session this morning, refpilates tonight - I’ll be ready for bed tonight
  • Am looking around at bits of rubbish on the floor! When I get up the energy I’ll pick them up 😂 (pens and bits of card?!!!)
  • need to make a plan for SpiritDoggo’s walks next week as sibling on holiday.
Brake guy is here ! Waiting to hear what the damage to my pocket will be, have a good one, SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/09/2025 17:10

SoE, I've never heard of a Japanese knot bag, so now have spent about 10 mins Googling to learn about them. I love that knots in Japanese culture represent the invisible bonds people share. Thanks for posting the pic of your lovely bag. 🩷

RunningKatie · 18/09/2025 17:35

@FourSeasonsLobelia - we went to the Lakes last Christmas. It was so lovely, highly recommend.

Dc1 seems to be poorly, sore throat, quiet etc. Luckily tomorrow school is closed so I'm hoping a 3 day weekend fixes all ills.

I did 5 mins in each of the dc's rooms today. It didn't make a visible difference sadly but it's something.

Hope everyone is ok and dodging the rain, I need to get the dehumidifier out, the rain has relentless this week.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/09/2025 22:58

Katie, every little bit counts. 🙂
Similarly, I put my sonogram pics of the dc into protective sleeves and into that binder I started yesterday with the birthday wall pics I put together (10 min job).
Took dc to playground after 30 mins of lessons I'm doing with them at home; folded/put away laundry and another load on to wash; hot mini lunch for Havoc of chicken, potatoes, grape tomatoes and washed/put rice on to boil. Need to get Havoc ready and be out the door in about 40 mins for drive across town to activity and trying to get baby down for nap now. 🤞

mumofoneAloneandwell · 18/09/2025 23:15

Dd has caught a cold so we are up. She napped and I couldn't nap so i'm super tired 😭😩 - we are watching The Morning Show on the tv and Hey Duggee on her tablet. Dd has a thing for superheroes so has rewound the same episode over and over 😩😂

I got a new plate set with matching pasta bowls from tesco which i'm really happy about 😊, plus did a shop for the essentials, blitzed the kitchen and put a wash on.

@SpiritOfEdna I love this - being able to make stuff is such a talent 😍 they will make great gifts. Best of luck with your mechanic, hope its good news x

Thank you @Aria999 , me too 🥺

@Mumtobabyhavoc a birthday wall collage is the loveliest idea 🥰 - you've definitely made headway. I have so much stuff for dd that gets stored in boxes. I managed to get most of it in the loft during the summer, organised only by year.

And thank you, @Mumtobabyhavoc @WinterFrogs i really love winter evenings in bed with the electric blanket. Now we are in a flat, theres less need for it, but its become routine really. Need to get some more simple crafts for her to do from the bed

I didnt think of it being calming for dd but I think it must be

@RunningKatie 5 mins when you can defo makes all the difference

@FourSeasonsLobelia that sounds lovely, hope the idea is recieved

Love to all xx
