A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Love Lewis Capaldi here as well. DS1 has tourettes and people ,like Lewis really help him and destigmatises it.

The footage of the crowd helping Lewis out last year at Glastonbury makes me cry.

Peridot1 · 23/09/2025 11:53

Joining in the Lewis Capaldi love. That footage from Glastonbury makes me cry too @FourSeasonsLobelia. Loved that he was able to come back this year.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 23/09/2025 13:06

@Peridot1 how aggravating of your builder! Are you any closer to getting it fixed?

@mumofoneAloneandwell hope the cold flies by quickly, much sympathy

I managed to walk the D to school, all of ten minutes there and ten minutes back, and then needed an hour to recover. Not exaggerating. I hate covid, have I mentioned this before? 🙃

No jobs getting done here, routine or extra... Can barely keep on top of my work!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/09/2025 21:28

Bliss! Both dc are napping!!! 🤗🥳🤫
I folded and put away laundry and a large load in the wash then did a quick vinegar wipe of toilet and bathroom floor while left-over pizza heated in the oven. Now going to eat lunch in peace and watch a morning chat-show I pvr'd. So, just a hi/bye from me. 👋🩷
This is precious quiet time!!!!!! iykyk

WinterFrogs · 24/09/2025 07:17

Morning all! I hope the peace lasted @Mumtobabyhavoc ❤️

I hope you feel better soon @SingleThreadJoiner2 That sounds miserable 😢

I will catch up later as I need to prep tonight's dinner or poor old DH will end up cooking again as I have a very busy day ahead and I've just wasted the last half hour on MN.

Have a good day everyone ☕️ 🍰

Peridot1 · 24/09/2025 08:05

I hope your peace lasted too @Mumtobabyhavoc!

@SingleThreadJoiner2 its annoying but to be fair to the painter he didn’t do much wrong. Just scraped along the join between the top of the door and the wall. The wire was just there and not very deep. DH spoke to the alarm company who gave a sharp intake of breath when he explained what happened. It’s not an easy fix. Will involve digging the whole thing out. It goes back to the initial build of the house. The builder messed up on something so all of the French doors and bifolds and windows seem to be slightly too tall for the space they are in so the trickle vents are all squished up into the plaster above. The painter was just trying to tidy it all up before painting.

It’s definitely autum here if not winter. Very misty out over the fields this morning. I’m not ready!

Yesterday DH and I did some of the painting of the garden room. It needs two coats of preservative, two of paint and then two of the sealant. And that’s just the outside! We should get all of the first coat finished today. I did some laundry etc but not much more was achieved.

Today:

  • laundry
  • dishwasher and quick clean of empty kitchen
  • put some laundry away
  • walk - hopefully with DS
  • painting
  • more painting
  • probably more painting
  • pick some interior and exterior lights

Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 24/09/2025 11:40

That sounds like loads @Peridot1 I am impressed!

Unlike you I an very ready for autumn! I love being a comfortable temperature 😁

A very productive morning here! Dinner made for two days, washing out on line and yesterday's load away.

I've picked up some bits for my mum she requested and done some admin for mother, work and home 💪 And been to the tip. I am particularly proud of having replaced the battery for my car key within half an hour of the warning light going on.

Just having a quick coffee, but also happy to announce that bed was made, loo swished and swiped, and the hoover run round before I left the house.

And I left the house at 8.15 😎

WinterFrogs · 24/09/2025 11:42

I quite like the new forum colours now I am used to them. My posts are a nice dusky pink!

RunningKatie · 24/09/2025 21:00

Ah the joy of a double nap @Mumtobabyhavoc - I hope you enjoyed it!
I seem to be coming down with the lurgy or there's a chance I'm just worn out so I'm having a mug of tea and then taking myself off to bed.
The new forum colours keep surprising me!

WinterFrogs · 25/09/2025 06:52

I hope you slept well and feel better this morning @RunningKatie ☕️ 😴

I'm sitting up in bed with a coffee, but I did a boiling the kettle job of wiping down the fridge door and emptying the toaster of crumbs.

I intend to sort out my drawers today, or at least make a start as they are getting a bit crammed again - yet i wear the same clothes on rotation most of the time. Time to do another Project 333.

I aspire to a minimalist life but it's a constant work in progress....

Happy Thursday everyone (how is it Thursday already?)

💐

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/09/2025 08:53

As our commute is an hour each way, dd gets comfortable in the car and takes her school shoes off

As its a faff getting them on her just to walk to the front door, i'd just leave them in the car and carry her there in the cold mornings

Welp this morning I rushed dd downstairs into the car, hurried us to school, we made it on time, only to have a flashback, as i was parking, to the image of dd's school shoes in the living room, rather than being in the car (she randomly kept them on yesterday)

Shes just been piggy backed in, barefoot and happy 😭😭

Thank goodness the teachers laughed as well, she will just have to stay inside today 🙈🙈

Here's hoping that the day improves!! Have a lovely one all ❤️❤️

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/09/2025 08:58

Loving the new forum colours too now @WinterFrogs 🤭 after complaining out of habit

@Peridot1 I love the decor plans. I've also been eyeing up a large painting for my hallway. I want a city skyline but they just look like corporate motivational posters so I was thinking maybe a painting of the old buildings in Paris

@SingleThreadJoiner2 thank you, i'm getting there now xx

Peridot1 · 25/09/2025 09:14

Morning all.

I’m not keen on the new forum colours. I hate the pink. (I just don’t like change and I’m irritated that they spend money on these changes but can’t fix the mess up that was made in the last big change where you used to be able to start a new paragraph and it would automatically start with a capital letter but now it doesn’t. Apparently that’s difficult to fix but changing to silly new colours is what we all needed.) Bah humbug.

@mumofoneAloneandwell - laughing at shoeless DD. I’m sure your face was a picture when you realised. And I get you about the city scapes. They can look great but it’s hard to find a really nice one. My painting is an Australian Aboriginal one of medicine leaves in blues and geeens. I love it.

Drama number 546 with our decorating project is that the colour I picked for the skirting boards and door frames isn’t the nice warm soft white I was expecting but a bright shiny cold white. Which fights with the oak doors. So we are back to square one on that. Now considering going for something completely different and using dark grey - the same as the units we had built last year.

Hope a good nights sleep saw you right @RunningKatie.

Today’s jobs are the usual of dishwasher (done) and laundry. And then painting the garden room again. First coat is finished. Second will hopefully get done over today and tomorrow. It’s a bit soul destroying to have painted it and it still looks exactly the same! But it’s just the preservative. Colour will go on over the weekend.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 25/09/2025 10:10

@mumofoneAloneandwell that gave me a good chuckle! Glad the teachers and DD took it in their stride!

I am getting better, though stairs are still a challenge. Excited to have the cleaners today after a long break forced by covid. Did a good tidy for them last night and managed to throw away lots of small rubbishy bits of plastic accumulated by my D - it felt good!!

Main task today apart from work is the online shop. We have people over for dinner on Saturday who are coming to our house for the first time so we need to be on our best behaviour 😁

@WinterFrogs I can't believe it's Thursday 😱😱

SpiritOfEdna · 25/09/2025 11:53

@mumofoneAloneandwell I would happily live barefoot 😄

So yesterday I was happily motoring through tasks, got loads done and then woke up at 2am with SpiritDoggo wanting to go out and didn't go back to sleep - my throat was ON FIRE and whatever it is is camped out on my chest today. Cancelled gym session this morning and have cancelled refpilates later - I really don't want to spread it - I think I got it from my friend who was hoping to sweat out her cold in the sauna on Sunday 😅 Envious of the garden room - when I win the lottery 😄
Today:

  • wash dishes and put away
  • walk SpiritDoggo in a bit
  • payday - so have been busy buying things
  • I might spread out the bay window curtains on the floor later - I hacked together two pairs of curtains as the window is so big - I now want to pattern match and make them look a bit less thrown together
Such a little list - the dish washing has been done though and a couple of meetings to do before SpiritDoggo gets her walk. Have a good one, SoE

Yesterday I tidied the house and DB and SIL came for dinner. It was nowhere near the standard I would like but that’s ok. I have somehow managed to fill 6 shopping bags with stuff that doesn’t really have a home so I would really like to deal with that between today and tomorrow. I really need to find a routine that is going to work for me. I’m thinking on top of my daily chores I would like to spend (at least) 30 mins a day tackling a different room. That’s the plan anyway, what actually happens might be a completely different story. This morning I have been out a walk, to the dump with four bin bags, hoovered out my car and sorted the cleaning cupboard to see what I need (turns out I need everything!). Today's one extra job is to sort through my toiletries drawer, I like to keep an additional one of most things so I don't run out. So I'll have a look at that and see what needs stocked up. I have a counselling appointment this afternoon and other than that I'm going to potter around the house all day.

Aria999 · 25/09/2025 14:31

Hello all! Everyone is insanely productive at the moment!

I am as usual in running to catch up mode. Today's projects, I hope, mop kitchen floor and break out the steam cleaner I bought months ago to have a go at the couch.

RunningKatie · 25/09/2025 18:10

Today I've managed to wfh for the first time this week. Good job as I'm not on top form, due into the office tomorrow and I'm not sure it's a great idea.
Need to bake a cake tonight with dc2, luckily he's pretty self sufficient so it's more of a consultancy role!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/09/2025 20:40

Oh, Katie. Take it easy.
Aria, that's a good feeling, isn't it!
Very productive Autumn!
oh, SoE, get well and take care. 🩷
Single, glad things are improving.

DC are particularly whiny and tantrumy. Unknowm reasons. Heading out to playground before I snap.

Vacuumed, cleaned bathroom and wiped kitchen floor yesterday. Also vacuumed one couch. Had meeting with OT and my mum yesterday and reviewed her 2nd ext health plan. Filed paper mail. Seemed to have misplaced one of my mum's ext health policies I had printed and made notes on. 😡 Also seemed to have misplaced obe of her ext health ID cards. 😡
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

“Garden Room” for those wanting a lottery win. It’s a posh name for a large shed really! Will have gym equipment in - treadmill, cross trainer, rowing machine and a small area for floor/weights stuff. We already have all the equipment crammed into the very full messy garage but can’t actually get to use any of it. DH really needs to exercise and tends to do nothing especially in winter. He bought the cross trainer so I encouraged the garden room/shed/gym so he will have no excuse.

second coat of the preservative was applied today.

Daily Project round 8
Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/09/2025 23:16

@Peridot1 Jealous.... ☺️

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/09/2025 07:06

Also jealous @Peridot1

We have something we call grandly a 'conservatory'. It's more a lean-to on the end of the house.

WinterFrogs · 26/09/2025 07:08

@Peridot1 I'm not sure what you mean about paragraphs. Isn't it more about the settings on your device?
That is a very lovely shed! I hope you have fun using it 😍

I did not want to wake up this morning. I'm normally up before the alarm 😴

The shoe situation made me laugh @mumofoneAloneandwell I can easily see how that would happen.

I hope your day got better @Mumtobabyhavoc 💐 Looking after your mum and small children is a lot!

That all sounds like a lot @autumnangel Slow and steady wins the race. You're making progress and I am sure it is all really hard for you 💕
I must get on! I have a coffee to finish and I promised myself I'd be out of the door by 7.30am having showered.

Managed one drawer yesterday. Will do another today.

Ah now we have a 'laundry room' that's actually an old outdoor privy and very tiny and full of cobwebs.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/09/2025 07:42

Took dc shopping after dinner. Bought them new rain boots and Havoc also got a matching umbrella. Popped into Winners and bought a round caddy that swivels for the bathroom counter. I cleaned it and put toothpaste/dental floss, tooth brushes and eye drops into the 4 compartments. It's smaller and less awkward than the rectangular metal one I had with a handle. I re-purposed the old one by putting some LED pillar candles into it and popped it in a corner of the kitchen counter. DC and I then tucked into a little snack plate I put together pic-nic style on the living room floor. It's amazing how something so simple is such a treat and fun for them (me, too). Oh, also bought a handy step stool that folds nicely and is tucked in the hall closet.
