A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I agree

Her constituency is Full of ‘working people’ as defined by Starmer. Working class people as we know he means. And their verdict is, predictably, brutal.

‘… there was little sympathy in her constituency on Thursday morning, with shoppers in Ashton almost unanimously calling for her resignation’.

Joanna Verrico has responded in the Telegraph. No bad advice as claimed by Rayner. Not surprising at all.

Joanna Verrico, managing director, told The Telegraph: “We acted for Ms Rayner when she purchased the flat in Hove. We did not and never have given tax or trust advice. It’s something we always refer our clients to an accountant or tax expert for.

“The stamp duty for the Hove flat was calculated using HMRC’s own online calculator based on the figures and the information provided by Ms Rayner.

“That’s what we used and it told us we had to pay £30,000 based on the information provided to us. We believe that we did everything correctly and in good faith. Everything was exactly as it should be.

Also talks about being a scapegoat.

CaveMum · 04/09/2025 18:06

There was lots of talk of her doing a “chicken run” to a safe seat for the next election, hence the new house. I know @TheNuthatch referenced that she was being projected to lose her seat.

Exactly as the linked in video legal said.

That’s two advisors / practices now that have had to respond given her lie re the justification. That is incredibly poor by Rayner.

I mean, did she really think that they wouldn't fight back as she tries to throw them under a bus?

Agree on Rory and alistair @CaveMum they were so much better before Labour got in…I don’t mind partisan but they don’t say anything interesting about Labour much these days.

and yes, good for that partner, not just Angela’s career being damaged here.

Good, as if they would have kept quiet!

More good news for Rayner. Starmer was praising her work yesterday.

Labour’s plan for 1.5m homes to be built in this parliament is in tatters as construction rates and cement production tumble.

Official figures showed just 38,780 homes were completed between January and March, the lowest quarterly number since 2016 outside the pandemic, and an embarrassment for Housing Secretary Angela Rayner amid a storm over her own property tax affairs. It means 129,510 properties were built in the first nine months of the Labour government – way short of the 300,000 a year required to reach 1.5m.And UK cement production has hit its lowest level since 1950 as high energy, regulatory and employment costs hit the sector. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-15062373/Labours-plan-build-1-5m-homes-tatters-construction-rates-cement-production-tumble.html

In a sign the Government is on course to miss a key target, figures showed just 38,780 new homes were completed between January and March.

A pre-election quote from KS: I'd like to say it's laughable, but Labour's actions since they were elected are anything but funny; their smug hypocrisy is off the scale.

Won’t have a chance to listen until tomorrow, but I see George and Ed are straight back on it in their first post-summer podcast.

I also see the fragrant Nadine has “defected” to Reform. However as she’s not a serving MP (and everyone thinks she’s a joke) I’m not sure why it constitutes a “Breaking News” alert on the BBC.

I haven't listened to it yet either, so I'll be joining you tomorrow. I love PC, my favourite podcast.

I had to laugh at Nadine jumping ship. Has she abandoned the notion of a Boris comeback then 😂.

@DancingFerret That aged well!

Why is Angela Rayner’s house so much more expensive than her neighbours’?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/1599ad93ae20865e

🤔Is the Telegraph suggesting here that Angela used her son's trust to buy her home at an overinflated price so that she can extract more money to buy the property in Hove?

That's exactly what they're suggesting yes. As I've just written on another thread, unless AR's house has a secret swimming pool and spa in the garden, it is not worth £650K.

That wouldn't really make sense when they had previously put 50% in his name, for which no-one has mentioned payment.

She did speak about the house being adapted for his needs. Perhaps something in there increases its value, like a therapy pool?

EasternStandard · 05/09/2025 08:24

Seems to be a lot of briefing on her ‘background’ this morning to override lies. We must keep her due to whatever education. It doesn’t wash but they’re peddling for sure.

I don't know, perhaps there is a pool or similar. I just know the area and it's not somewhere where family homes cost £650k. I doubt we'll ever know the truth.

The papers are suggesting that today is D day for her, as the ethics tzar is off on holiday tomorrow. If there is an announcement today, I would wager that it will be timed to overshadow Farage's speech this afternoon.

I know we've had a statement from the conveyancing firm she used, but I can't see anything from these two so called trust experts she's consulted?
