A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

😁 Imagine having the whole world know that you are off on your holiday tomorrow and is waiting to find out if the deputy pm is on the chopping block and all you want to do is pack and browse the bookshelves for some poolside reading.

😂😂
Imagine being ethics advisor to this shower. No wonder he's booked a holiday in term time 😂

The papers are suggesting that today is D day for her, as the ethics tzar is off on holiday tomorrow. If there is an announcement today, I would wager that it will be timed to overshadow Farage's speech this afternoon.

I know we've had a statement from the conveyancing firm she used, but I can't see anything from these two so called trust experts she's consulted?

Haha I love that they’re going on holiday. Hang on dear I just need to deal with this Rayner thing and we can go.

It was all lies wasn’t it? Only the conveyancer and Shoosmiths potentially and both put out statements. Shame on the BBC for peddling her version.

Parsley4321 · 05/09/2025 09:18

The tax advisors 😳😜

Thanks twisty. That was interesting to read. It will be fascinating to watch how things go over the next few years.

It’s an utterly beautiful Friday morning - blue sky and dappled sunshine.

There’s one thing that would improve it, however…

TBF I'm not sure that the BBC is peddling her version, they're just giving her defenders a platform on which they trot out the increasingly shaky and pathetic party line, because WHERE IS ANGELA RAYNER? She's lying low in some bunker somewhere, while the rest of the Labour front bench are wheeled out in the firing line for her.

What a gorgeous day! I think Angela Rayner will be in her inflatable kayak on a calm sea, vaping.

The fact they are still refusing to name the advisors that were consulted says it all. I read that they had only mentioned "Trust Specialists" which to me suggests that no tax experts were consulted at all.

The thing is, I like to see the good in people. I'm no fan of Angela Rayner but I very much doubt there was an intentional effort to evade tax. However, when you are a politician, however high up or low down the pecking order, it is incumbent on you to make sure that you follow the spirit AND letter of the Law in all your dealings. Even more so when you have made your name on calling out "sleaze" amongst your rivals.

I think she's toast, and that puts her out of contention for succeeding Starmer which, for me, is a very good thing.

EasternStandard · 05/09/2025 09:40

All the Labour lot who repeated the bad advice lie have egg on their faces too. Streeting, Phillipson, Reeves whoever else

It seems they believed their Ang wouldn’t lie.

Her removal would create a serious headache for Starmer, I think - from the left.
She’s a windbreak at the moment - with her gone, he looks very exposed.

I can see a scenario where the enquiry findings turn out to be damning, but Starmer retains her.

The optimist in me says that such an act could ultimately see the end of Starmer, but perhaps its just wishful thinking,

It may be better for ‘us’ that she remains as a lame duck DPM.

Either way, Labour will forever be tainted by this.

Agree with this 👍

Yes as Chris Mason said this morning, for Starmer it’s a “heads it’s awkward, tails it’s awkward” situation for Starmer.

It's a win win for those of us who want Labour gone 😁.

True

Searching4Alpha · 05/09/2025 09:52

In my working life, when someone was unfortunate to make a monumental error or omission, which they then sought to cover up, whilst they tried to ‘fix it’ - often simply exacerbating the problem - the first question I would ask is ‘Is there anything else you would like to disclose/get off your chest? If so, now is the time’.

I rather suspect that nobody has asked AR that question - and there’s other adverse info that hasn’t yet come to light….
