A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It's a catchy little ditty! 🤣🤣

PS hope you got all your washing done yesterday. Wet here today (started 2 minutes after I rescued yesterday afternoon's wash from the line!).

Nope, did 4 massive loads yesterday. 3 more to do today and its raining 😭. That's before I start on the beds, towels and dog stuff. It's my own fault. Glad you managed to rescue yours before it got soaked.

We are desperate for rain, please send yours up here!
Heads up, price of food is likely going to rocket due to this dry summer.

Can I bring some wet washing to yours please? 😂.
Just what we need, even higher food prices.

Thanks for the info on Katie Lam. I shall keep tabs on her.

It’s very warm and sunny here today - bedding on the line as we speak!

Where are you, give or take? We've had so much rain this last week in Southport. The brook near to us has gone up a good few inches in that time.

We said that about food prices as we have a working farm on our doorstep, and we've watched them watering the crops. Which obviously comes at a price.

(We've really enjoyed watching the harvest this year!)

NE just south of Durham..
We had rain last week but the ground is already concrete again 😢.
Hay prices per bale up here have now risen from £40 to £120+ per bale. No second cut and farmers having to feed livestock already.

Downing Street have u-turned on the sacking of Ian Murray. Yesterday Labour sent out releases saying Murray had left the Government. Cue a massive backlash. Today, Murray is back in Government and has two jobs

NoWordForFluffy · 07/09/2025 12:02

Oh goodness, that's not good.

We are / have been in drought apparently (not sure if this has changed given the recent weather). The problem is that you have a whole load of rain, then many dry weeks in a row. If the rain would just spread itself out, it would be so much better!

Oh that is superb! Starmer can’t even sack anyone now!

I hope she gets it. A bigger vote loser there has never been, except maybe in the swankier parts of Islington.

Yes definitely. The rain we've had has been so heavy it just runs off 🫣 My feed bill for horse is usually £0 per month May-Sept. It has come in this year as £130 per month!!!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 07/09/2025 12:07

See, that's another thing I don't understand.

The population is booming, there is talk of building thousands of new homes, but where is the water for this going to come from?

More people use more water, the fast food industry is booming, the farmers need water to produce food, we have the driest year on record.

Won't we need reservoirs? Won't we need the fix the creaking water infrastructure?

There is no joined up thinking, let alone planning.

And talking of water, where are our flood defences agains the rising sea water levels? They won't happen overnight, we should be doing something now.

Same with these huge data centres. Where are they getting the water from?
Or will it be a case of drought for plebs because all the water is siphoned into data centres?

Yes, that too. By magic?

The same sort of thinking that led to police funding cuts with a growing population.

I despare.

Oh God. She’s my MP. She is better spoken than I am but she is not actually all that smart.

ladybirdsanchez · 07/09/2025 12:23

Rain? It was so hot and sunny here this morning that I had to cut my morning run short, because I was overheating! You must be in the west (I'm in the east).

Good comment piece in The Times this morning by Camilla Long, which I wholeheartedly agree with. What did Angela Rayner actually do for this country? Pretty much bugger all and if her lasting legacy is the toxic Workers Rights Bill, then that pretty much sums things up, as it's going to utterly shaft business and do yet further damage to the economy of this country. A lasting legacy to be proud of there Ange, you self-serving tax-dodger.

Angela Rayner was no working-class hero but a caricature of one

We are told her private life is ‘complex’, but if anything it seems painfully simple
