A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Ellie Reeves demoted to Solicitor General, a junior ministerial role. No10 confirm that as SG, Reeves will no longer attend Cabinet.

Ooooh! Left wing economic correspondents ranting about RR:

To be fair they’ve been pretty critical of her for quite some time.

I imagine, if you had been waiting 14 years to have your preferences put into practice, and you watch it disintegrate before your eyes due to incompetence, you would be livid.

This article ran in the Telegraph today: Britain’s most apolitical town has turned on Starmer: the Reform revolution has truly begun.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/07bfc8f62e86253d

It's quite interesting to see how Long Eaton is used as the temperature check on what is happening in politics. Not just the scale of popularity that you'd get in polling but, because historically, it doesn't give much more than a political shrug to the passing political tides, it is a canary in the coalmine for the strength of political feelings in the country more widely.

Anyway, it's a whole coffee kind of read but the short version is that Reform's appeal isn't surface deep.

Thanks for posting this article. I know Long Eaton well. My son's girlfriend lives there, so does my DH's best friend - who is a leftie. He has always voted Labour, but will vote Green next time. Even he is cheesed off.

Long Eaton is a white, working class town, but it needs money pumping into it. You get the odd anti-social idiot knocking around the Market Place, but most folk are decent and hard working. The decision to put a migrant hotel in the town was initially tolerated, but there has been protests. Reform will sweep up many votes here.

EasternStandard · 06/09/2025 18:36

Just had a laugh at the Telegraph detailing some fragrant verbiage aimed at Starmer from sacked ministers. Can you imagine the WhatsApp groups

He’ll have to watch out even more

What’s the deal with Ellie Reeves? What position(s) did she have before and what’s she got now?

I’ve seen online that Anna Turley has become Labour Party Chair. Has she replaced Ellie Reeves in that role?

If it’s true that Turley is chair the unions will go nuts. She successfully sued Unite for a hatful a while ago.

I imagine Starmer is grasping at straws desperately trying to find MPs that haven’t got a skeleton in the cupboard.
Starmer acting inappropriately isn’t new though

Finally found this thread again!
Honestly. Some Labour supporters just don't get the issue with AR, do they
Hypocrisy is the only real reason she had to go.

Labour loyalists remind me very much of Donald Trump. They actually believe the crap that comes out of their mouths. It’s clear for all to see, that they are incapable of being objective. Sad really.

Absentmindedsmile · 07/09/2025 08:11

Thanks for the wedding fun wishes pp’s! It was a gorgeous afternoon. Politics was not mentioned once, just a joyful happy few hours for everyone I think.

It was actually a bit of an amuse bouche/ palate cleanser. But here I am destroying all the good work from yesterday 😂🤷‍♀️

To be fair, I am aware that I probably cut Labour a lot less slack than I do Tories, but there a a handful on MN who just can't see how their reaction would be totally different if AR was a Tory.
There is no way theycwould accept any Tory calling a Labour politician scum either.
No self awareness whatsoever.

Bring back Boris Johnson!

Labour is ruining this country all by itself. They can’t blame Tories for this shitshow!

“Shabana Mahmood (Home Secretary and terrorist sympathiser) refuses to recognise Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. Trusting her to secure borders is like trusting Harold Shipman to run a home for the elderly”.

Sky News are running a story claiming younger voters are increasingly likely to be attracted to Reform than any other political party

Boris Vs Lammy?

OhShesSweetButAPsycho · 07/09/2025 08:43

“David Lammy previously claimed that his mother relied on Tax Credits to raise him. Lammy was 31 (years not months) when Tax Credits were introduced.”
