Labour isn't working - Thread 7

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Labour have not grasped the fundamentals - that Starmer/Reeves are the crux of it for many. I particularly loathe BP to but for most it’s the top two.

so calling this a savage rebrand is all very well but
Rayner until recently wasn’t the key to their dismal polling at all.

Lutonsgirl · 06/09/2025 08:41

I just think the reshuffle makes them look worse. It's an admission they weren't performing and shuffling them about does nothing. It's chaotic.

And it doesn’t even give a signal of decisiveness. The same people on a roundabout. The only true sackings were nobodies.

Perhaps even worse is the ‘I’ll take anything’ attitude of Lammy and Kendall. Have some self-respect FFS.

Good morning 😁

Yes I agree with the posts above. Shuffling deckchairs springs to mind. They're putting so much emphasis on comms too. Its the message, not the comms. The organ grinder, not the monkeys.
Putting McFadden in DWP, and Reynolds as chief whip is interesting. Does that signal that the petulant Starmer wants another crack at welfare reform?

I listened to the TRIP emergency pod last night. It reminded me why I no longer listen to it. It's so left leaning now. Funny that as a tory, I find Ed Balls far more interesting and palatable than Rory S. Is he going to spend the rest of his life paying penance for once being tory? No thanks, I'll stick to Ed and George.

I think Starmer has realised bonds and markets will force him to rein in welfare if he doesn't do it voluntarily.
So yeh he needs stronger people to do that. Will be interesting how much noise Rayner makes on back benches about it.

But Lammy, I'm still chuckling over that one today. I asked my 13 Yr old which Marie won a Nobel prize, she did not say "Antoinette".

EasternStandard · 06/09/2025 09:20

The reshuffle is pointless and still they all need to be less effective and mediocre than Starmer and Reeves otherwise they’d compete. So it’s just a reshuffle of some duds.

Exactly, the problem is Starmer!
I keep on hearing people say "he is ruthless" etc, the man has no backbone. He is a wet fish on a wet Wednesday.

Love that about your dd 😁

Does Starmer even need a foreign secretary? He seems to prefer doing that role himself.

I think you are spot on there @twistyizzy Starmer didn't have the guts to push it through before and I can't see why anyone thinks he will do it now. I hope I'm wrong, for the sake of the country.

Absentmindedsmile · 06/09/2025 09:47

This mixing up / sacking / resigning. Bit of a fools errand isn’t it. They’ve still got the same bloody useless ingredients.

Liker · 06/09/2025 09:57

Wow long shifts at work and all this happens - desperately trying to catch up.

Gobby Angela Rayner finally fell on her sword. She never hesitated to criticise opponents who crossed the ethical line, calling for their immediate sacking. Yet she wasn’t sacked because we have a weak Prime Minister who tried to defend Rayner rather than sack her immediately her wrongdoings came to light.

This means she is now entitled to severance pay which she can take or not (her choice) – what do we think our Ange will do, eh?

Now we have David Lammy as deputy. The man who thought men could grow a cervix, whose only achievement as FS was to give away some of our territory.

Yvette Cooper who was totally ineffective as a Home Secretary, who was so successful in “smashing the gangs” that the small boat crisis worsened has gone. But who do they replace her with - Shabana Mahmood, a pro Palestine activist.

The worst of it is, if Starmer goes, then David Lammy becomes our Prime Minister. Let that sink in.

It’s probably occurred to Starmer. He wants someone even less capable than he is. KS is both weak and craven, a terrible combination for us.

TheNuthatch · 06/09/2025 10:10

We need to ban Starmer from all international travel, get him a new armoured vehicle, strict diet and excercise program and regular health checks. He needs to survive 😂

Yes, a shot across the bows to any potential insurgence: get rid of me and you get Lammy.

Both of the above Could happen 🙈😂.

I don’t think so either. Lammy would stand in if need be for a short period but not automatically become PM if Starmer were to go.

Let hope we can switch him out before the ink dries on reparation plans.
