I just googled Powell to see what her background is. She’s obviously academically good - she did chemistry at Oxford - but her career has been the usual dreary political/NGO/campaigning escalator that Labour (and LibDem) politicians follow.

It does make me despair that we are in the hands of people with this limited, one-eyed experience. That said, I wish the Tories would go back to MPs with a greater variety of real world jobs rather than speccy little boys and girls who’ve worked in some think tank.

This is a strength of Reform. Their politicians all come from the great unwashed. They say some uncouth stuff sometimes, but they more closely reflect the population they wish to serve.

Not a lot to report from the Pod. Alastair has been reading out texts he’s getting from “sources” and just said Yvette Cooper is being moved from the Home Office with Shabana Mahmoud replacing her.

I don’t do podcasts really more radio usually. But I’m getting the impression people thought she’d stay, they seem to get it wrong

Maybe they though Rayner would survive because she (stupidly) said in that interview that she had been given bad advice. Perhaps they expected her to be able to prove that, which of course she couldn't.

No corroboration yet of Cooper out - if it’s true, AC still well connected. Think he realised he’d made a gaffe at the end of the live broadcast!

She's obviously utterly desperate to be back in the public eye. Maybe she's got a new novel coming out, and sales of her previous terrible offerings have dropped off.

Speaking as one of her former constituents, she could not have been more useless as a Member of Parliament if she'd tried.

They only thing she's interested in is self-promotion, getting herself back on telly, and brown-nosing her way back into the Houses of Parliament by whatever means possible. That will be the reason why she has made this announcement - not from any genuine political conviction or a desire to serve the electorate, but only for her own self-aggrandisement.

For the life of me I can’t understand the sacking of Ian Murray. Wonder what walloper will replace him. Please god let Steve Reed be sacked.

AC said on the TRIP Live that his sources were saying Douglas Alexander was “back in” so wonder if he gets the Scottish brief?
