A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Nigel Farage has arrived on stage to make his speech at conference. All bells and whistles What a show man!!!! Completely unscripted. This is why the other parties fear him.

I’ve missed it but the mood must be the total opposite to Labour today

Looking at the BBC website Live coverage - 13,700 people are watching Farage; 77,607 are watching the Rayner coverage.

Reform are not as popular as everyone likes you to think.

EmpressoftheMundane · 05/09/2025 13:25

Going back to AR on a serious note. Her story highlights why the same rules must apply to politicians as to everyone else.

I am seeing lots of sympathy for her son with SEN. I agree. But if the law was too difficult for her, what about everyone one else who has to follow it with all of their special circumstances? The moal of this story is that tax law should be simplier and the tax take should be smaller. Not just foe AR who is very special , but for all of us.

If we have laws that we think it is natural justice to break and to bend- then maybe they aren’t fit for any of us and they should be changed.

They kind of are going by polls but people find Rayner’s downfall interesting

Upstartled · 05/09/2025 13:28

Conferences are for political nerds. I don't think they get much interest from the general public.

If there was an election tomorrow, Farage would end up being the prime minister.

I am not sure if this has been discussed here … but in 2015, Angela Rayner sent a small business a complaint written on House of Commons writing paper because the shoes she’d ordered had sold out. It’s really difficult to empathise with anyone in parliament who tries to bully shopkeepers.

Who is the other Labour MP to quit this week?

Arrearing50 · 05/09/2025 13:37

@EmpressoftheMundane i completely agree it is very easy to misunderstand tax law thresholds etc it is so complicated and correspondingly, tax advice is very expensive…

popcorn needed for the TRIP @CaveMum !!!

Arrearing50 · 05/09/2025 13:38

I suspect Rayner’s definitely got a media career lined up.

CaveMum · 05/09/2025 13:39

Well, she probably won’t get an after dinner speaker gig as the sort of people who pay well for that sort of thing will hate the current government.

twistyizzy · 05/09/2025 13:40

Interesting......The City is prepping for a 2026 potential election and I quote "if the budget is as shocking as most think, the bond markets, and financial industry in general will create an impossible environment ( Truss like) forcing the hand".
So hopes not high there that Labour are capable of doing anything to reverse things.

twistyizzy · 05/09/2025 13:41

Poppy Gustaffson (???) Has been 2nd Labour resignation this week?

That’s a side of her we haven’t heard about.

What a nasty and bullying thing to do. The HoC letter paper is bad enough. But if the owner was right that they bent over backwards to get a pair of the (fucking ugly) shoes and she then ranted down the phone, she’s clearly not the Angel Rayner down from heaven that the old Trots on the Starmer thread like to think.

(Pandorasocks excepted: she was incredibly gracious to me yesterday.)

Yes. Investment minister who sits in the Lords.

Heard it through friend who is a hedge fund manager. So completely un-provable but the fact they even messaged me to tell me......
City is just a vipers nest of rumours obviously so has to be taken with a truck load of salt

That's interesting.
Farage has just said he thinks it will be 2027. There are obviously rumblings that Labour may not survive this next budget.
