Anyone else hate the “ber” months?

Chiavennasca · 31/08/2025 18:17

September 1st tomorrow. I bloody hate the “ber” months. Clocks move. Cold and dark. Halloween, bonfire night & Xmas shoved down our throats at every turn.

I hate pumpkin flavoured stuff, I hate fireworks, I hate the word “autumnal.” I don’t want to get cosy with blankets and eat soup and light candles. I want to sit outside in the sun and eat salads and wear suncream.

I’m extra bitter this year because my mum died in June. Wake me up in 2026.

This post is just a rant hahaha, anyone else? Or am I alone in my end-of-year hatred?

I love the ‘ber’ months. They’re when I get my motivation for everything, by April, I want to hibernate!

I’m very sorry for your loss.

Vitriolinsanity · 01/09/2025 20:55

Not as much as the Uary months. They can fuck right off.

Tattletail · 01/09/2025 21:11

No I don't particularly hate on the ber months. I like all the seasons, mostly. I do get fed up towards the end of winter and the end of summer. These seasons seem like the longest and most drawn out.

Absolutely get this.
The constant marketing push from September onward is exhausting, and it all feels so forced. I'm so very sorry to hear about your mum.
That grief alone would make any season feel unbearable, let alone one that's so in-your-face with "joy" and "family."
It's completely understandable to want to fast-forward through it.
Hoping you can grant yourself grace to ignore all the "autumnal" noise and just do what you need to get through the days.

I’m really sorry about you losing your mum just recently, @Chiavennasca

GlowWorm13 · 02/09/2025 08:08

I love the ‘ber’ months and I can’t wait for it to colder and darker. I love all the seasons but after a few months of certain weather types/daily conditions, I start longing for the opposite. This summer has been very muggy and sweaty at times and I’ve had enough. Time for winter!

netflixfan · 02/09/2025 08:11

Sorry about your Mum. No wonder you’re fed up.
i love the spring and summer im with you.

Dozeyduck · 02/09/2025 08:12

Me too - always wish humans were designed to hibernate like hedgehogs... wake me up in the spring when it's all over please!

So interesting to read everyone’s varied replies. I guess I just feel the latter months of the year are romanticised and never live up to what you see on tv or Instagram. It’s always the perfectly styled woman with the coat, the boots, the scarf, the crisp morning and the coffee in hand. In reality, who can afford a wardrobe for every season? I’ll still be wearing the same trainers, the same winter jacket (which is too hot for autumn but I don’t have an inbetween) and instead of crisp it’ll be muggy and throwing it down. Probably with a storm named Sheila or Barbara.

I like January because it’s my husbands birthday and our wedding anniversary so we usually have nice things in that month to look forward to

The women on the TV don't just change their wardrobes for the season...they also seem to manage to redecorate their whole house in burgundy or dark green for Christmas...

I find the whole thing miserable rather than magical and I absolutely feel like grief is worse around Christmas. I lost a dear relative of mine five days before Christmas....it was absolutely terrible. I wanted to ignore the whole thing but have DC so had to paint a smile on.

Sorry for you loss

Yes I also cba with the decorating your house for every season. I’ll put Xmas decs up in December but that’s it.

I also have a child and feel the need to maintain a smile for the upcoming “happy season” and it’s so tough.

I went into town on a rare clothes shopping trip at the weekend but the winter colours are so drab and dreary I can back empty handed. I do t want to wear drapey burgundy and sludgy brown and green.
I love summer colours and intend to continue wearing them all year from now on! Although as a pp said I’ll probably have a coat on anyway!

OhNoNotSusan · 03/09/2025 06:08

i am dreading the clocks changing,
i hate driving in the car and wet
and then there is the ice

Maddy70 · 03/09/2025 06:22

I live in Spain and I love September and October. The intense heat has subsided, the tourists have buggered off it's warm, we sit on the beach every day, perfect temperature. December the same but freezing at night (not by UK standards TBF but Coats and jeans weather). January/Feb are cold ... Our homes are designed to keep heat out so they are freezing , much warmer outdoors !
Everyone thinks it's hot all year round we do have mainly blue skies but I hate the winter

I'm with you the tourists leaving. The roads are too. It's nice to have peace again until the spring.

@GlowWorm13

no, it’s not. September is shaping up to be lovely and warm. Soz.

It’s certainly not lovely and warm here!

Cattenberg · 05/09/2025 23:22

Wackadaywideawake · 31/08/2025 21:56

October to February can do one.

And they can take Halloween and Christmas ‘celebrations’ and shove them up their jacksy.

I do not care if this makes me sound miserable. I’m not. I just hate enforced ‘fun’, the weather, short days, defrosting my car in the dark, and being forced to buy shite. Don’t get me started on Christmas music. .

I'm happy to support this plan.

Nor here. The weather suddenly became more autumnal at the start of September and it has been cool and rainy since then.
