Anyone else hate the “ber” months?

Chiavennasca · 31/08/2025 18:17

September 1st tomorrow. I bloody hate the “ber” months. Clocks move. Cold and dark. Halloween, bonfire night & Xmas shoved down our throats at every turn.

I hate pumpkin flavoured stuff, I hate fireworks, I hate the word “autumnal.” I don’t want to get cosy with blankets and eat soup and light candles. I want to sit outside in the sun and eat salads and wear suncream.

I’m extra bitter this year because my mum died in June. Wake me up in 2026.

This post is just a rant hahaha, anyone else? Or am I alone in my end-of-year hatred?

Surely there’s no more misery of a month than February? . Still cold as fuck and absolutely nothing to get excited for

This. February is hateful. 1st 2 weeks of Feb are the coldest points of the year.

Teacup40 · 31/08/2025 18:41

Sorry about your mum op. I love autumn but this year I'm not quite ready for it, I think I tend to romanticise it a bit but it never lives up to the hype and the uk winters just seem never ending! There was a lovely thread a while ago about making the coming months more bearable that might help maybe?

IMissSparkling · 31/08/2025 18:43

People calling them "the ber months" really winds me up, when the fuck did that become a thing?! The months themselves I quite enjoy, apart from Christmas which can get in the bin.

AngularMerkin · 31/08/2025 18:43

I love them, it’s my favourite time of year. I like all the months for various reasons really, except perhaps February.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/08/2025 18:44

I missed the part where you said your Mum died, I’m really sorry ! Flowers

LittlleMy · 31/08/2025 18:47

I didn’t mind the -bers or winter in general when you could actually afford to heat your home and be all nice and cosy. I live alone in a fairly large property and it’s sooo miserable just shuffling around for 4 months in an utterly freezing home wearing layers and carrying hot water bottles everywhere.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 31/08/2025 18:48

Love them but not keen on JFM- especially March as it feels like we should be turning the corner but usually it’s still freezing and arsing windy to boot. Generally though I like the turning of the seasons- I could never live anywhere where it’s basically the same year round although I did quite like having less of a difference between longest and shortest days- was in HK for a long time and it gets dark between about 5:30 and 7:30 depending on time of year.

Ladamesansmerci · 31/08/2025 18:48

I love how pretty nature looks in Autumn, and absolutely love a cold (not too cold) but sunny, crisp autumn day.

And I enjoy Halloween!

But yes everything else can get in the bin. I despise how dark and gloomy the winter months are. And I hate all the rain. I hate defrosting my car. I hate having to pay for all the heating too lol!

Summer is the best season!

Livpool · 31/08/2025 18:49

Yep! I do like fireworks though

Rituelec · 31/08/2025 18:49

Love them.

Hate the uary months though

sodabreadjam · 31/08/2025 18:50

September is ok - still some nice days - and possibly October until the clocks go back. Don't much like November and December - the Christmas hype drives me nuts. I cheer up in January when I can see a few snowdrops and the days are beginning to get longer.

So sorry about your mum..💐

PurpleChrayn · 31/08/2025 18:54

Not me. I love the -bers.

Aubrielle · 31/08/2025 18:57

Nope. I love autumn and winter. I have summer SAD.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 31/08/2025 18:57

I don’t relate to this at all. September is one of my favourite months of the year. It always feels like a new start. All the autumn colours are amazing. Love the crisp and chilly mornings and evenings, then the soft warmth in the day. But I dislike summer. Hate the heat. The 4 heatwaves we’ve had this year have been unbearable. Love the darker evenings. Love wearing woolly tights! Bring it on.

HareWonTheRace · 31/08/2025 18:58

No, I hate the UARY ones though

DramaLlamacchiato · 31/08/2025 19:00

I don’t mind September or December

October and November can get in the bin

Rockabybabyboat · 31/08/2025 19:00

Oh im sorry i disagree - the 'ber' and 'ary' months are the best

Im defo an autumn / winter lady 🍁❄️

LhudeSingCuccu · 31/08/2025 19:00

I love the summer, especially this one where we’ve had the sort of summer we dream of - dinners outside most nights, friends here enjoying the garden. It’s been fabulous.

But I feel lucky we have seasons with such variety. We have a house in Florida and have just spent 2 weeks there. It’s so humid in the summer and it’s generally hot and dry or hot and wet. I don’t mind it, but I’d not want to live there.

Rockabybabyboat · 31/08/2025 19:01

Aubrielle · 31/08/2025 18:57

Same, and people dont take it anywhere near as seriously as winter SAD. Not that any SAD is high up on the serious mental health lists

BernadetteJune · 31/08/2025 19:02

Sorry for your loss. I remember always hating the dark nights and everyone at work moaning about leaving home in the dark in the morning and leaving work in the dark in the evening. However, we had a lady working with us who was always very cheerful. Someone said the usual "hate these dark nights" and she replied "Nope - it means Christmas is coming and I love Christmas". Such a lovely thing to say rather than joining in with all the grumbling. I always remember her when 1st Sept comes round - keeps me positive.

Pricelessadvice · 31/08/2025 19:04

I love it! I adore everything about Autumn and the run up to Christmas.
I hate Jan-May.

Typicalwave · 31/08/2025 19:04

Can’t wait. I hate the Summer. May - August can get in the sea

SiobahnRoy · 31/08/2025 19:07

I’m with you OP the -ber and -ary months are the worst. I’m summer born, maybe that’s part of it, I need sunlight.
