Anyone else hate the “ber” months?

Chiavennasca · 31/08/2025 18:17

September 1st tomorrow. I bloody hate the “ber” months. Clocks move. Cold and dark. Halloween, bonfire night & Xmas shoved down our throats at every turn.

I hate pumpkin flavoured stuff, I hate fireworks, I hate the word “autumnal.” I don’t want to get cosy with blankets and eat soup and light candles. I want to sit outside in the sun and eat salads and wear suncream.

I’m extra bitter this year because my mum died in June. Wake me up in 2026.

This post is just a rant hahaha, anyone else? Or am I alone in my end-of-year hatred?

Sorry for your loss.

I actually quite like the cosy 'ber' months, just minus the ott build up to Xmas, it feels too much.

February can do one though.

DejaMooo · 31/08/2025 19:09

It definitely depends on the weather for me. I absolutely love those autumn/winter days where it’s cold but the sun’s shining. I don’t hate the cold, it’s the bleak greyness I can’t stand. The worst months for me are Jan-Mar, when it feels like winter is never going to end and life is just grey.

PaxAeterna · 31/08/2025 19:10

Love the bers. So much to look forward to. I am like a war weary soldier dragging myself through January, February and March. The misery.

So sorry about your mum 💐

gingercat02 · 31/08/2025 19:10

The Ary's are much worse. Hate January and February.

LoveSandbanks · 31/08/2025 19:11

Absolutely could not agree more. I don’t even mind January because there’s at least the promise of longer days.

TaborlinTheGreat · 31/08/2025 19:13

I definitely prefer September and October to January and February. November is crap but December isn't so bad because I like Christmas!

That's a short month right at the end of the misery though, you have spring to look forward to the following month.

Yeah March isn't great though, is it? Still cold, not uncommon to get snow.

Newsenmum · 31/08/2025 19:14

As a child, yes. Now I longer have to go to school I LOVE it. Youve got to embrace it. Find something you love.

HareWonTheRace · 31/08/2025 18:58

No, I hate the UARY ones though

Agree.
I also love the Ma months and the Ju months!

showyourquality · 31/08/2025 19:16

Jan, Feb and even March are much worse where I live. Cold, dark and with nothing worth planning for as events.
I like Autumn although I miss summer.

Lemonade2011 · 31/08/2025 19:16

I prefer this side of Christmas to jan/feb but I’ve been soooo hot over a the last few months I’m going to enjoy being a bit cooler, the heat x time of life has been a bit much for me. Sorry for your loss though ❤️

Sally2791 · 31/08/2025 19:20

Sorry about your mum.
September is just about bearable but after that I’m longing for March. The dark is the worst part.

canidothisor · 31/08/2025 19:28

No Jan-April are definitely the worst. Sept is back to school, October Halloween, November fireworks, December Christmas. It's the Jan to April that drag. Nothing happens and I'm just hopelessly waiting for summer.

Mistyglade · 31/08/2025 20:20

I do, hate it.

MaJoady · 31/08/2025 20:22

Life's too short to hate any of the months. If you "hate" all the -bers that's 4 months a year to spend being miserable. More than a quarter of your life!

MumoftwoNC · 31/08/2025 20:25

I enjoyed winter when it used to snow but I feel like snow in the south of England is a thing of the past

LilyCanna · 31/08/2025 20:49

Sorry for your loss, OP.
I’ve always as an adult had mixed feelings about Christmas which are mainly negative since my mum died 5 years ago. So I’d say:
September - good month
October-mid November - beautiful with autumn leaves but melancholy
Late November and December - dark, cold, annoying Christmas hype
Early January - I always feel really positive, in the new year, everything fresh and clear.
Jan/Feb/March - weather grim but the days are getting longer, spring bulbs eventually pop out so it’s optimistic in a way autumn isn’t.

StMarie4me · 31/08/2025 20:55

Personally I love them. We do lots of activities in these months. We don’t cope well with heat so love Autumn 😊 🍂

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 31/08/2025 21:01

Nope! Bloody love Autumn and Winter 🍁❄️

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 31/08/2025 21:03

They're my favourite time of year, I love autumn! Reds and golds everywhere, darker nights, cosy evenings, mornings having warm milk instead of cold on your cereal, hot chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles. Halloween! Love a good horror movie fest. Then the build up to Christmas!

GarlicPint · 31/08/2025 21:05

Oh, me too. You forgot to include the -uary months in your loathing!

SociableAtWork · 31/08/2025 21:05

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/08/2025 18:29

Surely there’s no more misery of a month than February? . Still cold as fuck and absolutely nothing to get excited for

What about Valentine’s 😂 Joke - it’s another rip-off. February means payday comes round quicker - not quite so much month left at the end of the money!

Agree! Have found my tribe! 😀😀

LupaMoonhowl · 31/08/2025 21:10

My favorite thing is skiing so Jan-April is my happy time.

ToothpasteDownMyTop · 31/08/2025 21:10

Me too. Sorry about your mum.

Squirrelsnut · 31/08/2025 21:19

I leave at 6.30am so the dark, cold months are a slog. I also dislike Christmas. However, I'd rather have seasons than not. But winter could just be 5 weeks, ideally..
