Labour isn't working - Thread 6

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

🤣🤣

Which version are we on now?

The thing is they tinker around with advisors when in reality it's the cabinet who need to go!

Absolutely, Twisty.

Deliver THIS!

Hello Eastern! Glad you had a good holiday, welcome back.

What have I just seen here?....

Rachel Reeves on X: "It’s back to school time. I sat down with kids to answer their questions, and talk about what we’re doing to give every child the best possible chances in life. t.co/F9yiGCrk1e" / X https://share.google/IE4F2jcvI5npRLsrt

Wtf, is this the comms we need to settle down the banks and let business know which way the wind is blowing so that they can plan? And that music, the equivalent of a tinkly laugh, come on now

WTF was that supposed to be? 🤯
They don't help themselves do they. Is she even in charge at the treasury anymore? Torsten Bell has smelled blood in the water, and I see one of his cronies from the resolution foundation has been promoted this morning. He is taking over James Murray's previous role, despite being a new MP.

Slight slip of the tonge from Starmer this afternoon. Referring to Rayner, he said "Angela is an incredible Prime Minister" 😂

No 10 says mini Downing Street reshuffle shows government now has 'relentless focus on delivery'

Delivering what? Another slew of tax rises, another pile of pain on SME’s, OAP’s, farmers, PS parents…

I would rather they simply delivered on getting themselves out of government, tout suite.

Their lines are laughable if it wasn’t so serious. And yes they can do the shuffle outta here.

Hey @ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOperajust catching up, haha at the go for a walk post, better than Labour’s lines.

Sorry but this is comedy gold…

Starmer is asked about recent reports that Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner saved £40,000 in stamp duty when buying a flat in Hove, East Sussex, after telling tax authorities it was her main home.

Rayner comes from a "very humble background", Starmer says, adding that he is proud to have her as his deputy.

Asked whether others in the party are briefing against her, Starmer says Rayner has had people "briefing against her and talking her down" repeatedly. "It's a big mistake," he says.

"What a great story of British success," he adds.

A spokesperson for Rayner previously said she had paid "the relevant duty" owed "entirely properly".

Me too.
Not sure how much more "relentless focus" the country can take!

Keir Starmer on X: "Phase two of my government starts today. t.co/Ll2Wd6PnOa" / X https://share.google/K3jB9ntHcbfWljdJA

This just cracks me up, this is awful/ hilarious. So we've got Reeves doing her best impression of a cbeebies presenter and now we have Starmer doing Ricky Gervais in The Office.

D23456789 · 01/09/2025 15:51

"Phase two" and a "more powerful no 10" - what the hell is this going to look like?? I can only imagine its more pain to come.

EasternStandard · 01/09/2025 15:57

Omg ‘phase 2’.

Ds and I both re-read 1984 on holiday

Now, now Eastern, don’t go down the path of ‘wrongthink’… Starmer and the party would not approve.

menonprohibebis · 01/09/2025 16:00

Phase 2 is simply Starmer rolling the dice and pleading for more time.

When that doesn’t work, he will simply sacrifice Reeves in November, and hope the crowds in the amphitheater will prove sated.

Cooper to reiterate promise to end asylum hotels by 2029

In other words, by the end of the current parliament - funny that….

I wonder if they will leave a note for Reform(?) - ‘Sorry Nige, but we f’d up everything. See you again in 14+ years time. Good luck’

TwoTierBbq · 01/09/2025 16:47

@menonprohibebis and in the mean time how will they vet the thousands of young men coming in without papers?
.they don't seem to have grasped the issue do they ? We are in a situation that's being forced upon us and we have to pay for it.
However it's the demographic of the migrants that's causing actual fear and panic !
We do not know who these people are !

So great they are working on getting them out of nice hotels ,but how do they keep us safe whilst they work on finding out who these people are ?

Edwina curry was good on itv this am ,succinct about Raynor and praising her for doing well 🤣🤣 which is what we all want to be allowed to do

BBC readers post:

Who remembers Darren Jones on question time, when he claimed that the large majority of small boat migrants were women and children. The man is either a fool or a liar. Should he be in charge of anything more than feeding Larry the cat?

That earned 406 Likes….

Sorry. He should NOT have anything to do with Larry ☣️ (him not the kitty)

EasternStandard · 01/09/2025 17:55

I can tell diehard Labour will still be cheering Cooper / their party even though it’s women and children who won’t get asylum due to changes.

What hypocrites people are.

Hollyohara · 01/09/2025 18:08

‘Referring to Rayner’s impoverished upbringing, Starmer added: “I think we should be proud as a country that Angela Rayner is our deputy prime minister. That will give I don’t know how many working-class children – particularly girls – a real sense of aspiration. They will look at Angela and think, and I can do something like that. What a brilliant thing.’

🤮 I bet a million pounds he never said that about the grocers’ daughter.

Agreed!

I’ve observed some murmurings of discontent amongst the diehards elsewhere on MN, predominantly on the planned asylum changes, but nevertheless…

And by the way Keir my girls only really knew about Angela Rayner when they saw photos of her vaping on a blow up kayak in the sea in Hove. So not particularly inspired so far.

EmpressoftheMundane · 01/09/2025 18:22

Angela put her home in a trust to avoid IHT. She can’t comment on the stamp duty avoidance due to a court order.

🙄

I feel the court order could be the most interesting part of this.

It’ll probably be forgotten by tomorrow. All the we must grant asylum posters will be stuck to being pro Starmer and co again.

Some will now be glad women and children can’t get in. It’s the changing like the wind hypocrisy from all of them I’d love to see out.

Agreed. They will find a way to twist it within 24 hours. They're probably waiting for our dear leader to show them the way and give them something to spin.
Maybe something along the lines of 'well we can't help everybody, as much as we'd like to' 🎻 🤮

I can't read the Rayner thread without feeling nauseous. They are actually defending her 'tax dodging'. I mean come on people.
