Where do you food shop?

Lighthearted thread just genuinely wondering where the majority of people do their food shopping & why?

we’re a family of 3 (myself, DH & DS) and for years we’re longtime Asda shoppers. Mainly because, I think, my parents were Asda shoppers when I was a kid so that’s all I knew growing up. Plus, Asda is literally now down the road from our home.

we had a discussion about this at work and I was shocked I was the only one who went to Asda majority of the time. (Everyone else was Aldi or M&S or Tesco.)

so, for the last few months I’ve been driving that bit further and trying Tesco. So far, so good. No complaints and I don’t find it any cheaper or more expensive than Asda. Quality seems much the same too.

what about everyone else?

Oh, are most people talking online shopping? I’ve dabbled with it but never really got to grips with it - I like shopping in an actual shop!

tinyspiny · 20/08/2025 21:29

My Food shop is split between M &S and Tesco but most weeks I spend more in Marks. I also go to Costco at least once a month as their fish is excellent .

I’m talking about both, I mix and match, but I got so annoyed at how bad Asda were with online shopping and delivery that I’m now too annoyed with them to shop there at all!

Mossstitch · 20/08/2025 21:32

Ocado once monthly for huge heavy shop, love them but know my prices so don't pay extra unless its worth it, certain things are just better eg their bread flour and passata plus can get m & s goods.

Approximately once monthly aldi for certain things that are cheaper like toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets etc.

The rest of the time i walk to local butchers and asda as only a couple of minutes away.

MiddleAgedDread · 20/08/2025 21:33

A mix of Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Aldi. The first two are closest but I try and do bulk buys of basics from Aldi when i’m passing. It’s not far away but always feels like it’s too far to go specially. Also have a Waitrose in walking distance that I only use for odd bits n bobs.

Dymaxion · 20/08/2025 21:34

Aldi, Lidl, Waitrose, Sainsburys and Morrisons , depending on what I need. No Tesco's here and the Asda isn't great.

linelgreen · 20/08/2025 21:35

Main shop Ocado delivery but we don't like supermarket meat so that comes from local butcher. Then we do any extras needed from M&S or Tesco Exoress

CoastalCalm · 20/08/2025 21:35

Lidl or Aldi
M&S

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/08/2025 21:36

Mostly Asda, since it’s the closest and the most convenient. But I do also go to Sainsbury’s, M&S and Waitrose.

SpottyAardvark · 20/08/2025 21:36

Basics & all household / cleaning products from Lidl, plus some of the things they do very well, eg German cooked meats, natural yogurt & stuff from their themed weeks.

Meat, nice food, treats etc from M&S, Waitrose & the local posh farm shop.

I until recently did get a lot of household cleaning stuff and toiletries from Poundland.
Unfortunately 3 branches near me have closed.

Norfolklass2428 · 20/08/2025 21:41

Sainsbury's online for main shop . Waitrose if action up shop is needed. Occasionally M and S

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 20/08/2025 21:44

Tesco, probably because of the Clubcard and we've always shopped there. Also, their delivery people are always so friendly and helpful.

Might pop in Sainsbury's or Aldi if we need something extra.

Crispsrule · 20/08/2025 21:45

Both Sainsbury’s and M&S are near so tend to combine. M&S if I am feeling lazy but also for yellow stickers, I just had a delicious poke bowl salad this eve, half price and have tomorrows breakfast (overnight oat pot) and lunch (ham and mozzarella) wrap) for about £3.50 in total.
Same with Sainsbury’s, often get bargains but also feel their quality is decent.
Tesco’s has a really good range and variety of everything. Particularly like their own brand sun cream but it’s a drive whereas the others are both walkable.

Mumofyellows · 20/08/2025 21:46

Tesco for my main shop as the click and collect is convenient when I’m working. Ocado if I want a home delivery for any reason (eg now as we love near a v popular beach and the traffic is awful for me to go out shopping) Waitrose for a quick top up, or Asda but the Asda near me is very small so not a great selection.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 20/08/2025 21:46

Aldi for most things and top ups at M&S and a brilliant Chinese supermarket

beachwalkx · 20/08/2025 21:47

Aldi as it’s cheap, nearby and I like it. Nice staff too
occasional online Tesco shops

LittleCarrot12 · 20/08/2025 21:47

Mainly Aldi and Asda. Tesco for top up

Hereforthecommentz · 20/08/2025 21:49

Sainsburys delivery. Sometimes I go to the local tesco for odd bits.

pambeesleyhalpert · 20/08/2025 21:50

Ocado. They also do a price promise to Tesco. I love that I can get Ocado own or M&S

TheChosenTwo · 20/08/2025 21:51

Butchers for the meat and then a weekly delivery from tesco for the basics. Sainsburys for midweek top ups because it’s closest and Waitrose at the weekends because it’s in the pretty town next to us and we are usually there for a walk or lunch or something anyway.
Used to get a weekly delivery from Ocado but ditched them when they got into bed with M&S.

Ocado, M&S and local butchers. Really don't find it more expensive as M&S has great basics range, fruit and veg imo better, buy ranges from Ocado that are on special in bulk and some crackingly good products I struggle to get elsewhere. Butcher works out cheaper and far better meat.

BotterMon · 20/08/2025 21:53

Ocado since forever. Hate shopping.

Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes · 20/08/2025 21:54

Asda 15% staff discount.
