Where do you food shop?

Lighthearted thread just genuinely wondering where the majority of people do their food shopping & why?

we’re a family of 3 (myself, DH & DS) and for years we’re longtime Asda shoppers. Mainly because, I think, my parents were Asda shoppers when I was a kid so that’s all I knew growing up. Plus, Asda is literally now down the road from our home.

we had a discussion about this at work and I was shocked I was the only one who went to Asda majority of the time. (Everyone else was Aldi or M&S or Tesco.)

so, for the last few months I’ve been driving that bit further and trying Tesco. So far, so good. No complaints and I don’t find it any cheaper or more expensive than Asda. Quality seems much the same too.

what about everyone else?

50% Lidl, 20% Tesco, 10% M&S 10% wholefood shop 10% random garage emergencies

ohbee · 21/08/2025 22:08

Tesco and M&S for me. I prefer Tesco as the aisles are far bigger than M&S though. I get quite stressed in a busy small space.

Crazyworldmum · 21/08/2025 22:19

Mostly Costco and Lidl but will still visit the others on occasion to get some bits

Noononoo · 22/08/2025 07:18

In order of frequency:
Waitrose,
Sainsbury's,
Aldi and
M&S.
never any of the others- no need and not near.
The occasional Lidl however.

Sheknowsaboutme · 22/08/2025 07:20

Aldi is the main shop.

top up in tesco for bread and milk etc

morrisons for wine as they do fab deals for wine of the week for £5/£6 ,

NormasArse · 22/08/2025 07:55

We have a Booths and an Aldi next to one another, within two minutes walk of my house, so I use both.

NOresponsibility · 22/08/2025 11:07

I shop at the corner shop.

Lidl. I wouldn't waste money in Sainsbury's or m and s.

I do the big shop at Sainsburys. Might be my town, but the Asda here is really rough; Lidl and Aldi people seem to push past (like literally push you out of the way to get what's in front of you) but I also found I couldn't get everything on my list there and would have to do a second shop, and some things (chocolate for example) are more expensive there than at Sainsburys; I can't afford M&S and the nearest Waitrose is 15 miles away. The Morrisons is ok, but I prefer the range of items at Sainsburys. I do the small shop at the little Sainsburys or Co-Op.

Whatever has the best offer on my banking app’s cash back! Morrison’s or Sainsbury’s usually 5-8% cash back

Ooo which banking app?

Sainsbury's for GF, online for GF ingredients, butcher for meat, eggs farm, M&S, Tescos occasionally, farm shop. The two tier pricing gives me the rage. I shop as locally as possible. Grow a lot of veg too.

Bryonyberries · 24/08/2025 09:22

Tesco home delivery. I’m out of the towns so it’s easier for it to come to me!

I will pop into any of the supermarkets for top ups or a browse if I’m in town.

DilemmaDelilah · 24/08/2025 09:37

Online - I use Morrisons because I get free delivery
in person - 'big' shopping, Sainsburys because it is the only one on our side of the river. 'Bits', Lidl or Aldi.

Mostly Tesco as it’s the closest. I went to Asda the other day though and it was definitely cheaper so I am planning to go there when I can. In my town we also have a small Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Morrisons plus Aldi and Lidl within driving distance so I have a lot of choice.
