Where do you food shop?

Lighthearted thread just genuinely wondering where the majority of people do their food shopping & why?

we’re a family of 3 (myself, DH & DS) and for years we’re longtime Asda shoppers. Mainly because, I think, my parents were Asda shoppers when I was a kid so that’s all I knew growing up. Plus, Asda is literally now down the road from our home.

we had a discussion about this at work and I was shocked I was the only one who went to Asda majority of the time. (Everyone else was Aldi or M&S or Tesco.)

so, for the last few months I’ve been driving that bit further and trying Tesco. So far, so good. No complaints and I don’t find it any cheaper or more expensive than Asda. Quality seems much the same too.

what about everyone else?

I don't stick to one place. Lidl, Tesco, M&S or Morrisons are all near home so I choose depending on how I feel/what I need. Sainsbury's if I'm getting a delivery. Asda if I'm going shopping after work.

Oh yeah, or the Co-op if I can't be bothered walking more than five minutes for my food!

Moveoverdarlin · 20/08/2025 20:13

Do big shops at Sainsbury’s and Tesco, but go to Waitrose three times a week for top-ups. Wouldn’t ever buy cleaning stuff and laundry supplies at Waitrose but get most fresh stuff from there.

Go to an Aldi once every three months or so to buy loo roll, tin foil, bleach, dog biscuits, basic supplies.

Never go to Asda, Morrisons or Lidl.

Whatwouldnanado · 20/08/2025 20:15

M&S for fruit and veg (except apples and mixed leaves which I find dear there) tinned goods grocery items cleaning stuff, bread, stir fry stuff and yellow sticker meat and fish. No waste and great value I find. Rest of it, cat food apples salad leaves either Tesco or Co-op. Local dairy goods.

Tesco (express) became its a hundred metres from my house, am I’m lazy. .

Beyondburnout · 20/08/2025 20:16

Main shop lidl. Top ups ethnic shops and Sainsbury's.

Suitcaseforlife · 20/08/2025 20:17

I use Tesco. I swapped from lidl to Tesco (had a choice of Tesco, lidl or coop then) as dc1 was diagnosed coeliac and I needed to be able to do my shop all in one place (had new born twins and a toddler). Roll on 16 years and I'm now disabled so have online delivery i tried them all and Tesco were the best in our area.

Middlemarch123 · 20/08/2025 20:17

Weekly Asda delivery. Co-Op ten minutes walk away, for fresh bits in between.

ScarlettSunset · 20/08/2025 20:18

Tesco mostly. Simply because it's the closest..I do sometimes shop online at other stores, or if I'm out somewhere and going past another supermarket, but using the closest shop is just convenient.

EchoedSilence · 20/08/2025 20:20

Mostly Tesco because it's the nearest big supermarket. Sometimes Asda if I want a change. I also sometimes shop in Aldi and Iceland.

CharlotteCChapel · 20/08/2025 20:21

Main shop Tesco delivery and top.up from lidl. Tesco because it used to be the only supermarket, except expensive waitrose, where we used to live. Lidl because it's within walking distance of our current property.

BCBird · 20/08/2025 20:21

Ocado. There's only me. Some good prices, although something that was 5 pounds 6 months ago is 6.85-err nope.

catzrulz · 20/08/2025 20:23

Morrisons, it's the only supermarket without getting on a ferry where we live.

RampantIvy · 20/08/2025 20:24

Tesco mostly for convenience.

Crunchymum · 20/08/2025 20:24

Have a delivery pass with Sainsburys (plus we have a large store a 5 minute walk away). We buy a few select bits in M&S and Waitrose.

Our weekly grocery bill is very expensive!!

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 20/08/2025 20:24

Sainsburys apart from occasional trips to the small Tesco nearby.

nnyorks · 20/08/2025 20:31

M&S or Sainsbury we eat a vegetarian diet and have found that m&S is limited on brand choices but is always good quality and fresh fruit and veg last longer but same price as others. Then Sainsbury for other stuff with nectar card works out same if not better than Asda for us I think it all depend what you buy

ChompandaGrazia · 20/08/2025 20:36

Ocado. Weekly delivery, no need for top up shops.

FurForksSake · 20/08/2025 20:37

Ocado. It’s super reliable, has a good range and I buy a lot of the m&s essentials range. I can’t physically do a supermarket shop currently due to a serious hip issue. If I could I’d alternate between Ocado and Aldi.

makemineadecaf · 20/08/2025 20:38

Whatever has the best offer on my banking app’s cash back! Morrison’s or Sainsbury’s usually 5-8% cash back

Wowiw · 20/08/2025 20:40

Tesco, I only have Lidl and Tesco locally and Lidl isn’t great for doing a full shop for me so it always ends up Tesco.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/08/2025 20:42

Sainsburys
Lidl
Aldi
Co-Op
M&S
Sainsbury's Local
Waitrose for online shops
Local butchers for meat

Lambtangine · 20/08/2025 20:43
