Constipation- someone PLEASE help me

HelpMeMelpHe · 14/08/2025 20:12

I have been constipated for 7 days. That may not sound like a lot but I usually go 2/3 times a day without issue. I was away on holiday and ate crap food and basically survived on crisps and pizza as I was so hot I had no appetite.

I am currently lying on the bed in tears, I have tried:
orange juice
4 suppositories
3 x enemas
putting my feet up
relaxing
black coffee
a special vitamin tablet which DP says always makes him go
Drinking loads of water
pushing from inside my vagina
actually trying to manually remove the stool (sorry for the way TMI)
sitting in a warm bath
massaging my stomach
dulcolex

ill be ringing my GP first thing in the morning but can ANYONE suggest anything else. I’m in a total panic, I can just feel the rock hard stool, I’m in agony, shaking and it hurts to walk. To top it off I’m on my period which I hoped would get things going but nothing. Someone please help I am desperate and I’m worried my gp will just prescribe everything I’ve already tried. I’m a nurse and working all weekend and at this point I can’t see how I can go into work which would leave my team in the absolute shit (pardon the pun). I don’t know what to do 🫨🫨

I was once told the immortal words: “A good shit is better than a bad shag”. Having been constipated I very much agree! Nice one OP, I’ve been totally emotionally invested in this thread.

Sorry I missed out all the gory details in my excitement to update. It was pure liquid, the laxido and the ducolex must have combined well enough to basically cause a tsunami out of my arse 🤣 Such a relief, I have no feelings of pressure at all and feel like a new woman. My stomach is making noises that I didn’t know were humanly possible so there’s still more to go but such a relief.

God, that's put me right off my chocolate mousse that has! 😆

Great news @HelpMeMelpHe I know how debilitating severe constipation can be, and how miserable it makes you feel, and how bloody uncomfortable you feel. Glad you've managed to 'go.' God bless Laxido! (And dulcolax!) 🙏

Years ago I went into a house in Bristol that belonged to a friend of my brother.

Good news @HelpMeMelpHe something like inulin added to your food each day will keep you regular. It’s tasteless and quite reasonably priced.

I take Plenvu before I have a colonoscopy. That stuff will clear anyone out.
Glad you found something to get you going.

HelpMeMelpHe · 16/08/2025 17:32

Thanks everyone, never felt so much support in my life can you all just be my personal cheerleaders for things not pop related 🤣

I feel fine today, I’ve had a proper meal for dinner, I’m sure it’s not overflow and all the horrible feeling bloating has gone, I have no pain or discomfort at all, my stomach is continuing to make very loud gurgling sounds! I am going to continue with the laxido for the weekend and hope by Monday I’m back to total normal. Have a lovely weekend everyone

There is nothing more underrated and under appreciated than a properly functioning bowel!

poppy48 · 16/08/2025 19:05

Hi
Try prunes with the juice. Also have you tried sitting on loo, deep breath, mouth open, rub the lower back , breath out. The more anxious you are the harder to go so just make sure nobody needs loo so you won't get disturbed. Take your phone in with you and do a game or quiz, helps you relax. Failing that a suppository will do it. It's horrible isn't it . Good luck love x

And now for a joke: Brain says to bottom 'I am much more important that you and I can think intelligently.'. Bottom says: 'You want a bet!'

Rosegoldy · 17/08/2025 11:17

OP, I find a half teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda/ honey, in a glass filled with hot water, to be an amazing laxative.

I would recommend a keffir yoghurt drink in any of the supermarkets to settle your gut.

A small glass with a bit of extra virgin olive oil stirred into it, every morning will settle everything down.

Lidl do a litre keffir yoghurt drink. We love it here, even my fussy daughter.
Great start to the day.

AgirlwithalittleL · 17/08/2025 11:55

What will work for you as it did me is the wellguard probiotics .This was after going to the G.P. as I was in a dire situation after not going for over a month. What the G.P. gave me didn't work what so ever .Good luck .Oh the wellguard probiotics are in a white and purple box they are in capsule form

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/08/2025 16:06

very happy for you OP.

Moving forward, eating 2 kiwi fruit a day is shown to keep things very regular (you can google the study).

I have been on WLI for a year now and taking 🥝🥝 a day has kept me nice & regular. (Constipation can be a common side effect of WLI)

DD has to take iron supplements & 🥝🥝 keeps her on track too.

Hi, I’ve just been through something similar after taking codeine after surgery and they didn’t receive me laxative or tell me I needed to take it so I ended up quite impacted I ended up getting it out myself while waiting in ane in. Hospital toilet I was in there hours, my usual is now is I’ve had diarrhea since the constant urge to go to the loo but it’s just watery and small soft lumps every now and gain will this be all the actives I took ? Has this happened for you ? How are things now ?

Do you eat the skin?

I don't eat the furry ones, and I sometimes eat the skin of the smoother ones.

But for the bowel benefits eating the skin isn't necessary

One cap of Lactulose and in an hour or so make sure you are near a toilet.
