HelpMeMelpHe · 14/08/2025 20:12

I have been constipated for 7 days. That may not sound like a lot but I usually go 2/3 times a day without issue. I was away on holiday and ate crap food and basically survived on crisps and pizza as I was so hot I had no appetite.

I am currently lying on the bed in tears, I have tried:
orange juice
4 suppositories
3 x enemas
putting my feet up
relaxing
black coffee
a special vitamin tablet which DP says always makes him go
Drinking loads of water
pushing from inside my vagina
actually trying to manually remove the stool (sorry for the way TMI)
sitting in a warm bath
massaging my stomach
dulcolex

ill be ringing my GP first thing in the morning but can ANYONE suggest anything else. I’m in a total panic, I can just feel the rock hard stool, I’m in agony, shaking and it hurts to walk. To top it off I’m on my period which I hoped would get things going but nothing. Someone please help I am desperate and I’m worried my gp will just prescribe everything I’ve already tried. I’m a nurse and working all weekend and at this point I can’t see how I can go into work which would leave my team in the absolute shit (pardon the pun). I don’t know what to do 🫨🫨

If it’s pure liquid are you sure it’s not just bypassing?

tommyhoundmum · 16/08/2025 07:36

I have heard about this too.

I think I'd be sick as well.

Do you really think that massaging your naval is going to shift a blockage. Humans have approximately 25 feet of small intestine and 5 feet of long intestine. Will take a lot of massaging

You are not reading accurately. Also, blockages don't have to be very long, just compacted. Why be disrespectful of what works for me.

I’d be worried about this too but if the pressure has gone maybe all the fluids softened it enough! Only time will tell.

Congratulations, OP!

I've been mentally giving thanks for having been blessed with trouble-free gut function all my life, it sounds absolutely horrendous.

Sorry I missed out all the gory details in my excitement to update. It was pure liquid, the laxido and the ducolex must have combined well enough to basically cause a tsunami out of my arse 🤣 Such a relief, I have no feelings of pressure at all and feel like a new woman. My stomach is making noises that I didn’t know were humanly possible so there’s still more to go but such a relief.

Phew!!

i was once constipated for about 4 weeks, but i was pregnant and very sick and wasn’t eating much. Even so, tge resultant pressure release was tremendous!

Treesaa · 16/08/2025 08:45

Glad you're sorted now :)

Happy for you @HelpMeMelpHe

Your situation was giving me anxiety. What an ordeal but I'm glad it's sorted now.

Booklover2021 · 16/08/2025 08:57

As a long time sufferer, I've been quietly invested in this thread! Very happy for you OP!

MyDadWasAnArse · 16/08/2025 09:05

Arse tsunami!

FlamingoFloss · 16/08/2025 09:15

What a relief!!! I feel your relief with you. I’ve ended up in A&E with constipation - it truly can be horrific. Glad you’re ok now!!!

ByPithyLion · 16/08/2025 09:41

Phew...I'm sighing with relief for you. Glad to here you've got the worst of it over with. Have a great weekend💐

MrsDoubtfire1 · 16/08/2025 09:43

Thank you for being a constipo sister. Just been navigating same subject and you have given me my confidence back.

DilemmaDelilah · 16/08/2025 09:51

Movicol

TheBerry · 16/08/2025 09:52

Dulcolax won’t work, you need something like Movicol. Just go to the pharmacy and get some over the counter. Take a couple sachets, some more after a few hours, it’ll work before long.

Orange3344 · 16/08/2025 09:55

Glad you've had some movement! I looked at your list and thought wow you've tried everything, what more can people suggest? But from my experience travel constipation is from lack of eating fibre both on the journey and first few days of the holiday, plus the dehydration from the plane, it literally dries everything up, your stool most of all! I take so many high fibre cereal bars on holiday now and eat on plane/airport and drink as a minimum 1.5 litres of water on the plane, however long or short the flight, and despite the eye watering prices of water in airports. Try and buy a pret salad with some veggies and greens to take on plane and make a big effort to eat veggies on holiday. It's the only thing that helps me. Try overloading on the simple natural things, honestly. I once took a tablet to get things moving and that ended badly on a high speed train in Japan so never again 😂

Fangisnotacoward · 16/08/2025 09:55

I can't believe I've been so invested in a stranger going to the loo! 😂

So glad you've been able to go. Its awful

Tortielady · 16/08/2025 09:58

Thank goodness for that - you must be feeling so much better. Have a good weekend 💐

HelpMeUnpickThis · 16/08/2025 09:58

@HelpMeMelpHe

I can’t tell you how glad I am that you have finally managed to have a movement - it was worrying me.

Have a nice weekend.

One of my friends was constipated after giving birth. When she finally managed to go, she had to use her birth breathing practices to get her through the ordeal.

OP took Ducolax and Laxido which is the same type of product as Movicol. OP has also updated that the combination of both these things has helped.

Arlanymor · 16/08/2025 10:48

Hurrah!

*waves brown pompoms

So pleased for you and hope that you had a brilliant night's sleep, you must have been exhausted. Make sure you rest up this weekend, lots of liquids and lots of being nice to yourself.
