HelpMeMelpHe · 14/08/2025 20:12

I have been constipated for 7 days. That may not sound like a lot but I usually go 2/3 times a day without issue. I was away on holiday and ate crap food and basically survived on crisps and pizza as I was so hot I had no appetite.

I am currently lying on the bed in tears, I have tried:
orange juice
4 suppositories
3 x enemas
putting my feet up
relaxing
black coffee
a special vitamin tablet which DP says always makes him go
Drinking loads of water
pushing from inside my vagina
actually trying to manually remove the stool (sorry for the way TMI)
sitting in a warm bath
massaging my stomach
dulcolex

ill be ringing my GP first thing in the morning but can ANYONE suggest anything else. I’m in a total panic, I can just feel the rock hard stool, I’m in agony, shaking and it hurts to walk. To top it off I’m on my period which I hoped would get things going but nothing. Someone please help I am desperate and I’m worried my gp will just prescribe everything I’ve already tried. I’m a nurse and working all weekend and at this point I can’t see how I can go into work which would leave my team in the absolute shit (pardon the pun). I don’t know what to do 🫨🫨

Bananas have worked for me but sorry if this advice is no good for you. I feel for you OP. This sounds awful

Liss19 · 15/08/2025 20:14

Oh i second what someone else put about movicol/laxido. Thats the good stuff, my second child was on that for 3 years as a little one to help him go. Ive got some here still if you are anywhere near me. Obviously i couldnt take that due to breastfeeding but if i could have i would have.

davo91 · 15/08/2025 20:19

Warmed up prune juice with room temp coke and a tbsp of butter. Meant to do wonders! Hope you poop!

I’ve just got home from the gp, she wasn’t concerned about impaction in the slightest. She has prescribed me laxido and told me to take 4-8 (I think I’ll take 6?) and some more suppositories. She examined me and said she couldn’t feel a hard stool but I didn’t ask whether she meant there was nothing there (although I can feel it so can’t be empty) or that the stool was now soft. She also said I now have piles which is a pain but not unexpected. She said to start these and if nothing by next week to come back.

How are you this evening @HelpMeMelpHe ? Flowers

It’s bringing back some very painful memories.

Same.

Fisherwoman123 · 15/08/2025 20:31

This is a medical emergency and you should seek medical intervention immediately. Constipation can be very serious and life threatening. You are in pain, you potentially have overflow and possibly have an obstruction (given previous habits).
Your stools should have returned to normal fairly quickly after your return from holiday. Do not wait as this could lead to a bowel perforation and this can cause sepsis and severe infection with permanent damage

I don’t want to worry you OP but go easy with the Laxido. I’m used to being constipated but on GP advice I’ve been taking Laxido at a rate of two a day this past week (but thankfully stopped). I saw no effect for three days and now it’s kicking in. I’ve had a couple of days I wouldn’t want to repeat and won’t be going far from my own bathroom till I’m back to normal.

Have you tried changing your posture? Sit with your feet propped up on a step stool or similar if you can and lean forward so that you’re in a folded position. Sometimes it’s the shape of the poo that’s the problem, it gets stuck and needs rearranging. You can do this manually or by squeezing your muscles.

I’m willing you on with this, I’ve been there!

OP, I would go to A and E. Matthew Perry got a burst colon from 10 days of constipation (think that’s correct re duration and which organ burst / exploded / got damaged). He was taking a huge amount of drugs which caused the severe constipation - I don’t think a week or two of junk food would cause constipation so severe. Scans or X-rays could look for an obstruction (I’m not a medical person so please don’t all moan at me if I’ve got that wrong!)

Not going to moan at you because I agree. Eating badly for such a short time wouldn't cause such a bad case.

I find circular massage below my navel pressing on hard with my hand moves on the blockage that clears within a half hour or so. It always works for me

Brown sugar mixed in a small amount of warm water

Then after 2 big spoons of 'Andrews' mixed in water

Really feel for you OP.

I had to have an emergency laparotamy 8 years ago and lost complete control of my bowel and bladder and ended up wearing incontinence pads all the time. It was so embarrassing when accidents happened when I was out and about. Then 3 years ago I was prescribed daily medication and ended up with constant constipation... only managing to go every 7-10 days. Even then it was really hard work (very hard and huge!). Sounds disgusting but I had to catch it in industrial kitchen paper and dispose of it in nappies to avoid blocking the loo (again). I was referred to colorectal surgery to investigate. A colonoscopy couldn't be completed due to badly scarred tissue at the former operation site. I then had a barium meal procedrure that showed an obstruction in the small bowel. After 6 hours and 4 xrays, the barium meal still hadn't reached the colon. I spoke to surgeon yesterday who said he could perform another operation to repair the stricture or fit a stoma bag. He also gave me the option of performing regular colonic irregations at home. I decided to try this out first as the laparotamy forced me to 'retire' from work early as my health deteriorated (I was 50) and I can't afford for it to get worse as I have a disabled daughter. I'm now waiting for them to get in touch with me. In the meantime, I have to increase my Laxido intake from 2 to 6 sachets.

Good luck OP, I hope this is just a one-off for you. Once it starts coming out, it won't stop and you will give the biggest sigh of relief in your life. Benn there, done (do) it. Take care.

Kulwinder54 · 15/08/2025 20:45

Have you rung 111? You really need medical intervention at this stage

Brunettesmorefun · 15/08/2025 20:47

Mini2025 · 15/08/2025 16:04

GPs don't always get it right. I had a long-term condition and was gas-lit for years by GPs. I finally had surgery and am cured. No thanks to my GP.

Similarly I have another condition now and have been dismissed from the medical department. NHS will do anything to boomerang you. Not today.. come back when it's an acute emergency and A&E will have to deal with it... seems to be how the NHS runs now.

There is a reason why it is called Accident and Emergency.

Lactulose Solution this works in 30 minutes and you need stay near a toilet - it’s fast

I can drink 3 bottles of that and it wouldn't touch me. I was hospitalised whilst pregnant 38 years ago as I hadn't been for 3 weeks, they pumped me full of lactulose and it did nothing. 2 litres of prune juice and the gates of hell opened for the next 5 days. Prune juice and laxido, I will shout it from the rooftops for any poor soul suffering with this.

I hope the OP is glued to the loo, in a good way

hopefully, someone will slide her phone under the door for her …

Shes already tried them

Dissappearedupmyownarse · 15/08/2025 21:11

I dont think I've ever been so invested in my life whether someone has managed to have a poo or not....😂😂😂
Come on OP, have you managed to birth that lava rock yet?!

Pekony · 15/08/2025 21:11

I also do psyllium husk for constipation.... May be too late and hopefully you have gone by now...... When my thyroid stopped working I couldn't poo..... Nothing would shift it was terrible.

Franpie · 15/08/2025 21:15

Isn’t this just due to what the coke is cut with?

So maybe bypass the class A’s and just rack up the Laxido into lines and snort that??
