HelpMeMelpHe · 14/08/2025 20:12

I have been constipated for 7 days. That may not sound like a lot but I usually go 2/3 times a day without issue. I was away on holiday and ate crap food and basically survived on crisps and pizza as I was so hot I had no appetite.

I am currently lying on the bed in tears, I have tried:
orange juice
4 suppositories
3 x enemas
putting my feet up
relaxing
black coffee
a special vitamin tablet which DP says always makes him go
Drinking loads of water
pushing from inside my vagina
actually trying to manually remove the stool (sorry for the way TMI)
sitting in a warm bath
massaging my stomach
dulcolex

ill be ringing my GP first thing in the morning but can ANYONE suggest anything else. I’m in a total panic, I can just feel the rock hard stool, I’m in agony, shaking and it hurts to walk. To top it off I’m on my period which I hoped would get things going but nothing. Someone please help I am desperate and I’m worried my gp will just prescribe everything I’ve already tried. I’m a nurse and working all weekend and at this point I can’t see how I can go into work which would leave my team in the absolute shit (pardon the pun). I don’t know what to do 🫨🫨

I didnt go for three weeks, I was throwing up bile and all sorts of residues that couldn’t go down at age 14. I don’t recommend waiting that long at all! The last time i went over 3 weeks was in pregnancy and again I had to go to hospital to get sorted.

just because you can do something like with lots of things doesnt mean you should!

I'm not suggesting doing nothing, just wanting to reassure OP not to overly worry. I've gone a week without a bowel movement and I found it reassuring that a GP said that.

Lactulose, lactulose, lactulose. I think I was constipated for 4-5 days after surgery.

I then did, no lie, a foot long poo. And promptly got hemorrhoids or piles or whatever they are.

Was pretty miserable but equally quite proud of the poo 😂
you Will get through this OP.

Am so invested in this thread - both because hoping the OP has had a poo but also because I’ve got prolapse repair surgery in a couple of weeks and the biggest thing I’ve been warned about is not to get constipated because any straining could / will cause the internal stitches to rupture and the surgery will fail

Take lactulose every time you have any opiod medication. Codeine, morphine, cocodamol etc. Also eat prunes every morning. There's a reason why they are on the hospital breakfast menu. Don't wait for constipation to start.

I’ve been 🎉🎉🎉 the 8 laxido I had and the 5 Dulcolex seemed to have done the trick. I will continue with the laxido (but reduce rhe dose down back to 4) over the weekend but 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 this is it. THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to reply or send me a DM, constipation is truly horrific and I have so much sympathy for chronic sufferers

You are not constipated but are IMPACTED at this point. I hate to say this but you might need it manually removed.

If this is a ongoing issue you need to use polyethylene glycol 3350 daily along with adequate vitamin c.

JustLookingThanks · 15/08/2025 22:19

Yippee! And apparently chewing gum helps as it gets everything moving

Mini2025 · 15/08/2025 22:20

Hooray OP!!! This is the message I’ve been waiting to read all day!!

So glad you’ve got it out!! I’m feeling a sense of relief myself 😆🙌💩

Notsuchafattynow · 15/08/2025 22:20

Well done you 👏

MaidOfSteel · 15/08/2025 22:20

Yay!! I’m really pleased for you, OP!

I’ve been in your position and I know the relief (of both kinds) is huge.

OhcantthInkofaname · 15/08/2025 22:24

While writing my post you posted. Hurray.

I take the polyethylene glycol daily and have for years. Also making sure you have lots of vitamin c helps to get things started.

Can you get to a late night pharmacy today and ask for an over-the-counter prescription for an osmotic laxative?

Fybogel

There’s a blast from the past.

I haven’t heard of Andrews mentioned for donkeys years.

They seem to have stopped selling it now! 😫 I loved a wee dod of Andrews when I had mild constitutionally or indigestion...

CuddlesKovinsky · 15/08/2025 22:31

Constitutionally? Constipation!

Did the world fall out of your bottom?! CONGRATULATIONS!

💩🥳😄

You're going to be like an empty husk of snake skin tomorrow...

Rhinohides · 15/08/2025 22:36

If you have taken some pain killers then fibre probably won’t help you but movicol and loads of water might.
If no pain killers involve maybe try chia seeds both before and after they are soaked and try juicing up a load of celery, also try grapes and drink double strength Costa lattes. Maybe walk around every hour.
if you have not passed wind in 24 hours then go to a and e NOW.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 15/08/2025 22:42

I’m genuinely chuffed for you @HelpMeMelpHe

All the best for your recovery. Look after yourself.

I have no idea how but it worked, within an hour
